In this Quicky of the Self Love Podcast, Kim explores the topic of forgiveness and challenges the belief that healing always requires it. She unpacks the true meaning of forgiveness, shares why acceptance may be an even more powerful path to freedom, and explains how acknowledging the past doesn’t mean approving of what happened. Through thoughtful reflections and inspiring quotes, Kim encourages us to shift the question from “How can I forgive?” to “How can I free myself?” Ultimately, this episode is a reminder that self-love is about honouring your experiences, releasing the weight of the past, and choosing peace without needing anyone else to change.

Quotes:Acceptance simply says, ‘This happened. I cannot change the past. I choose not to let this define my future.’Forgiveness is giving up all hope of having had a different past by Jack KornfieldForgiveness is the scent the violet emits onto the heal that crushed it.Perhaps the real gift isn’t forgiveness itself. Perhaps the gift is acceptance.Maybe the first step is simply self compassion.Maybe a better question is, ‘How can I free myself?Self love is not about carrying old wounds forever. It is about honouring your experience, learning from it and choosing peace over pain.

In this inspiring episode of Self Love Podcast, Kim sits down with Matt Bunker to explore an extraordinary life shaped by adversity, resilience, and purpose. Growing up in a home marked by severe domestic violence, Matt shares how he overcame childhood trauma, the heartbreaking loss of his brother, and the challenges that could have defined his future. Instead, he found discipline and direction through the military, eventually earning his place in the Australian Special Forces after learning to embrace failure, accountability and personal growth. Together, Kim and Matt dive into the lasting impact of intergenerational trauma, the importance of healthy role models, and why true strength comes from choosing a different path.
Now the co-founder of Empower Longevity, Matt has dedicated his life to helping others live longer, healthier lives through preventative healthcare, advanced diagnostics, and personalised wellness programs. He shares his philosophy of self-love of putting family, health, and meaningful relationships first along with the powerful lessons he learned supporting his wife through her battle with breast cancer. This conversation is an honest and thought provoking exploration of resilience, leadership, masculinity, healing, and the courage it takes to break destructive cycles and create a life of purpose.
About MattMatt joined the Army after finishing school, graving something different and challenging and to get away from the domestic violence he had experienced at home. He served 16 years as an officer and in 2011 was one of 16 out of 130 candidates to successfully pass one of the hardest special forces selections in the world. As an officer in the Special Air Service Regiment, Matt led highly trained, skilled and at times very challenging personalities.
After leaving the Army in 2018, Matt embarked on a career as an Emergency and Oncology Registered Nurse where he is fulling his purpose in life to help others in need.Matt along with a local Dr recently founded Empower Longevity. A private health clinic to bridge the gap between reactive illness management and proactive health optimization. He combines his deep clinical knowledge of disease pathology with proven strategies for achieving peak physical and mental capacity. Matt is passionate about translating these powerful insights into personalised, actionable plans to ensure every client can maximize their health span, live their potential, and truly enjoy the benefits of a longer, more vibrant life.

Quotes:The cycle of violence will stop with me.I was never, ever going to end up like the other men in my life.I never wanted to be a victim.I never wanted to blame anything that I did or anything that ever happened to me on other circumstances.I wanted to excel at whatever I wanted to do.I am very, very grateful for the opportunities that I had.I knew that I had to extract myself from that situation as much as I possibly could. What I wanted to do had to be in support of helping other people.I firmly believe that intergenerational trauma is real because I deal with it on a constant basis, personally.I have such a beautiful relationship with my wife and kids. She taught me more about resilience that year, and courage, than I have ever been taught or experienced in my entire military career. You have a choice to raise your hand, you have a choice to raise your voice. You have a choice to walk away.Routine is a big thing for me. The militarily gave me that in spades.I wanted to feel like I belonged to something. When you learn to embrace failure, you enter this continuous improvement cycle.Every time I fail at something, I see it as an opportunity. When you address your weaknesses and you are accountable, people acknowledge that.I have always looked at me first. There is a fine difference between confidence and arrogance. When you operate in a group, you operate amongst collectively much more experience than individually you ever have.Respectful, intelligent conflict brings about positive change. You need to empower people to challenge your decisions. When you empower people to make decisions you are saying to them that you value them and you value their skills and capabilities, you trust them.Knowledge is power.Live longer, live stronger.I have three priorities in life. They are family, health and friends.I made a very clear decision in life that I was going to be ruthless about who I let in my circleMy circle of influence is pretty tight.Just be a good person.

In this inspiring episode of the Self Love Podcast, Kim welcomes Briar Kirkby, founder of Briar Loves Bali Retreats, to share her extraordinary journey of healing, resilience, and transformation. After navigating a difficult divorce and a life changing diagnosis of tonsil cancer, Briar discovered profound healing in Bali, where the island’s culture, spirituality, and deep sense of community helped her recover physically, emotionally and spiritually. She opens up about her cancer treatment, the alternative healing modalities she embraced, and how Bali became a sanctuary that ultimately inspired a whole new chapter of her life.
This conversation explores the intimate women’s retreats Briar now hosts in Bali, designed to help participants slow down, reconnect with themselves and experience genuine healing in a supportive environment. With small group sizes, personalised care, and a focus on rest, connection, and self-discovery, Briar’s retreats offer women a unique opportunity to step away from the busyness of life and return home feeling refreshed, empowered, and deeply connected to themselves.
About Briar:Briar Kirkby is the founder of Briar Loves Bali Retreats. After navigating divorce, single parenting and a cancer diagnosis in midlife, she found herself completely reassessing the life she had built and the pressure she had placed on herself for so many years.
A trip to Bali at the end of her cancer treatment became a turning point. It gave her space to slow down, reconnect with herself and begin creating a different way of living, one built around rest, simplicity and choosing herself more intentionally.
Today, Briar splits her time between Perth and Bali, where she renovates villas and hosts small group retreats for women who feel stretched too thin and disconnected from themselves. Her retreats focus on creating space for women to slow down, reflect and reconnect, without pressure to constantly perform or keep pushing through.
Briar speaks openly about midlife, resilience, rebuilding after major life change, and the importance of rest, self-love and learning to come back to yourself after difficult seasons of life.
Her definition of Self Love is: Self love is filling my cup. Everyday waking up and finding something positive about my day.
Her favourite quote is: Challenged accepted! Favourite Saying! Come on Bridget!

Quotes:My heart has always been there, but I think it is deeper now.The people there have got this beautiful sense, they have got nothing and they give you so much.Every time I went back there, it changed me.I changed how I thought, how I lived, what I wanted, and when I go there, I just feel peace. They do it with absolute unconditional love.I think they are born with love. They live with belief and hope.It is such an honour to go and be in that environment and watch these people truly believe that these blessings are for the better.Bali is the heart chakra of the planetWe get one shot, that’s it. We don’t get a comeback. This is no dress rehearsal. This is it.Balinese people held my hand.Bali has that sense of allowing you to be you. Just you.I found it for a reason, and I am here for a reason.Your body actually sends messages and allows me to pass them back to you.I wasn’t using my voice. I wasn’t speaking my truth.I was full of shit. I was lying to myself. The more bullshit I believed, I think the sicker I got.I realised that I wasn’t telling people how I really felt.I wasn’t being honest about me.I believe that toxicity in my environment got me to that day. After cancer and after a nasty divorce, and to find myself again, and to be this happy human that I wake up every day happy to be here.I am grateful to my ex-husband because he has made me who I am. Because of him, I found myself.I thought everything was over. So becoming the phoenix and rising to who I am today.I guarantee you that I am going listen to you.I want you to leave and feel a little bit lighter.Love who you are, where you are at, the body you are inYou can change your mind, your path, your priorities, your friends at any time because that is my choice.Stop being hard on you. Be kind to you.

In this heartfelt Quicky of The Self Love Podcast, Kim explores the many forms of grief and loss, reminding us that grief extends beyond death to include relationship endings, health challenges and major life transitions. She shares practical tools to support healing, including mindful breathing, time in nature, gentle movement, and the therapeutic use of essential oils such as rose, lavender, and sandalwood. Kim emphasises that true healing comes from allowing ourselves to feel and process our emotions rather than suppressing them, and that there is no set timeline for recovery. With a focus on self-compassion, support, and nurturing self-care rituals, this episode offers comfort and guidance for anyone navigating loss.

Quotes:Grief is not something we just get over. It is something we learn to move with, breathe through, and in all intentions, we learn to honour it.You have to feel it, to heal it.Emotions are purely energy in motion. If we suppress this grief, it doesn’t disappear. It just stores itself in the body.Sometimes our deepest pain becomes our greatest awakening. There is just no perfect way to grieve.Self love during grief is not about pretending to be okay. It is about meeting yourself with compassion while you are not okay.Grief simply reflects the depths of your love.Even after loss, even after heartbreak, even after pain you are still worthy of love, especially your own.

In this heartfelt episode, Kim sits down with Sue Anderson-Stevens, author of Love and Loss of a Parent, to explore her deeply personal journey through grief, resilience, and healing. Sue reflects on her upbringing on the Central Coast of New South Wales, where her parents taught her the value of simplicity, gratitude, and finding joy even during difficult times. She shares how these lessons shaped her career as a project manager and leader, where her focus has always been on helping others feel seen, heard, and valued. Sue opens up about the profound experience of losing both of her parents within just 116 days and the emotional impact of caring for them through their final years.
The conversation delves into the ways Sue navigated loss, including her passion for ultramarathon running and completing a challenging 100-kilometre race as part of her healing journey. Through stories of endurance, the Camino de Santiago, meaningful signs from her parents, and the support of family and friends, Sue reveals how grief can evolve into growth and transformation. Drawing from the framework outlined in her book Grief, Healing, Connection, and Transformation, Sue offers compassionate insights for anyone experiencing loss. Sue’s powerful message reminds listeners to honour their own grieving process, embrace self-love, and remember that “you have to feel it to heal it.”
About Sue:Sue Anderson-Stevens is a Master Practitioner of NLP and Time Line Therapy®, a certified Transformational and Grief Coach, and a passionate advocate for helping othersnavigate life’s most challenging moments with courage and compassion.
After losing both of her parents within months of each other, Sue felt called to transform her personal journey of grief into something meaningful–supporting others to move from grief toward healing, connection, and transformation through her book, Love and Loss of a Parent.
With over 35 years of experience in leadership and project management, Sue brings a unique blend of structure and empathy to her work. An avid runner and ultramarathonfinisher, she believes deeply in the power of movement, mindset, and connection to support healing.
Sue lives on the Sunshine Coast, Australia, with her partner and is a proud mum to twin daughters. She is now building a supportive community so that no one has to walk throughloss alone.
Her definition of Self Love is: If I look in the context to loss, it would be to give yourself permission to grieve without judgement and allowing yourself to move forward when you are ready, and not when the world expects you to.
Her favourite quote is:I would rather be the oldest person in the gym than the youngest person in the nursing home.
You have to feel it, to heal it.Links to follow:

Quotes:Life was always full of love and laughter. Not a day goes by that I don’t acknowledge that I had a very privileged childhood growing up.They always made our childhood be the best they could in the circumstances that they had.Everybody will bring something unique to the team, and if you are the leader, it is your job to find what that is.I think making people feel heard and seen, is something that I really focussed in on.The longer runs, I love because you just get to just tune in. It is like a meditation. It is just being able to be lost in thought, in beautiful nature.I want to do something that people go is hard. I want to do something not everyone can do. I want to do that thing that is outside the box.One thing I love about the running community is a very supportive community, regardless of your age, shape, or condition. You are always welcomed in.The best place to start, if you really don’t know, is park runs. There was constant exhaustion and trying to manage lots of different things that I had going on at once.I felt like I was constantly living in a survival mode. They were the sort of people that didn’t ever want to be a burden.I just knew that when I walked in the door at Mum and Dad’s, and when I walked in the door at my home, I had to be a different person to the person that was being the carer, the juggler of everything. When I knew that they had given up the fight, then I knew it was time to prepare.I was grieving the loss of my parents, even though they were still alive, and I just never thought that that was a thing.I took the redundancy as a sign that was now my new job. It was to look after Mum and Dad.I knew I would have my time. My focus was 100% on the job I had at hand. The world was moving on so quick and my grief wasn’t.Everyone’s hard is something different. Mine happened to be long distance ultra running. If you can find your hard, something that you know is out of your comfort zone and it is going to take effort for you to do, then that is your hard.If I could share my story, that could help other people, then it would be worth me writing that book, even if it just helps a couple of people.I referred to myself as an accidental author.I felt that it is my story, in my words. I wanted it to sound very much like a conversation. I wanted it to sound so personal. This is about the community that I want to build and supporting people.I really wanted to normalise the conversation about grief.Grief is a place that you do need to visit, but it is not a place you want to stay. The next version of you is waiting.

In this Self Love Podcast Quicky Kim explores the transformative power of being fully present in the moment and how nature can be one of our greatest teachers. Through simple observations of birds, resting dogs, and the rhythm of ocean waves, she shares how the natural world reminds us to stop overthinking, release comparison, and simply be. Kim explains that presence is a profound act of self-love, and that healing often comes not from doing more, but from softening, listening, and connecting with what is happening right now. She encourages us to cultivate presence through practices such as standing barefoot on the earth, watching nature, and taking conscious breaths. This uplifting episode is a reminder of your innate power and an invitation to embrace the beauty and wisdom available in the present moment.

Quotes:It is about being here, right now. This breath, this moment. The most powerful way is to spend time in nature.Animals, they don’t overthink who they are. Trees don’t compare themselves to the forest beside them, and the sun never wonders if it is enough. You do not have to constantly prove your worth. Presence is self love.Life was never meant to be lived in permanent urgency, and nature has the most powerful ability to bring us back home to ourselves.Healing is not always found in the doing more.It is found in the softening, in the listening, the pausing, the allowing.Give yourself permission to be fully where you are.The more present we become, the more love you feel.Life is full of highs and lows.Grace synergy blend reminds me to come home to me.

In this inspiring episode of the Self Love Podcast, Kim sits down with holistic counsellor, horse trainer, and equine assisted therapist Noni Boon to explore the powerful connection between horses, self-love, and personal transformation. Noni shares her journey of reconnecting with horses as an adult and how her mare, Lacey, became a profound teacher of emotional healing, healthy boundaries, self-trust, and sovereignty. Together, they delve into archetypal psychology, the wisdom of living in the present moment, and how horses can help us reconnect with our instincts, emotions, and authentic selves.
Noni also discusses her definition of self-love as loyalty to oneself, sharing her unique practice of creating personal vows through a symbolic act of “marrying yourself.” The conversation touches on healing, forgiveness and the deep lessons horses offer in personal growth. This is a rich and thought provoking conversation for anyone seeking a deeper connection with themselves and the world around them
About NoniNoni Boon is a Holistic Counsellor, writer, speaker, podcaster, and horsewoman whose work helps women reconnect with their instincts, establish healthy boundaries, and live with greater sovereignty.
Drawing on holistic counselling, archetypal psychology, nervous system awareness, and the wisdom of horses, Noni offers a grounded and compassionate approach to personal transformation. Her work supports women in moving beyond self-doubt, over-responsibility, and inherited patterns so they can become the woman they were born to become.
Noni is the author of Holifest, a self-published book that explores manifestation through the integration of mind, body, and soul. She is also the creator of The Archetypal Mare, a body of work inspired by her relationship with her mare, Lacey, and the qualities horses embody so naturally: presence, instinct, clear boundaries, and relational integrity.
As host of the podcast Speak Your Truth with Noni Boon, she has shared insights on emotional healing, confidence, grief, relationships, and conscious living. Her writing has appeared in Nature & Health magazine, and she has facilitated women’s groups, workshops, and corporate programs focused on emotional intelligence, resilience, communication, and self-leadership.
In addition to her counselling and writing, Noni is an accomplished horsewoman and an acknowledged racehorse retrainer with Queensland Racing. Her lifelong work with horses has become a central influence in her understanding of trust, embodiment, and authentic leadership.
Noni lives on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, where she writes, speaks, mentors, and offers equine-assisted sessions that help women return to the wisdom already living within them
Her definition of Self Love is: Self love is loyalty to yourself. It is honouring your boundaries, listening to your instincts, trusting your intuition, and being sovereign, being self governed, self led, not seeking approval from others, and certainly not asking permission to live your life.
Her favourite quote is initiated by Lacey. What is meant for you does not require pursuit. It moves towards you when you stop moving away from yourself.

Quotes:I realised that I was a complete mess, had addictions I didn’t even know I had, I had so much work to do on myself. That was the hardest journey, lifting the carpet and really shaking out from under the carpet, everything that was in my family. If I had the chance to do it again, I would do it so differently. There is no perfect time to become a mum. You get the child that chooses you, and you do the best you can, and that is as good as it gets. There is no right or wrong way. There is no textbook on it. You go in with an open heart.Lacey, has been my greatest teacher and guide to date.I decided on that day that I was going to marry myself.I was going to make a conscious effort to fall more deeply in love with myself because that is what was missing.I will never abandon you.I will always choose myself.I truly believe that you can’t marry another person and fully love another person until you marry yourself and make that vow to yourself and choose yourself.Becoming a counsellor is all about doing the work on yourself first so that you become a clear vessel. You want to integrate every aspect and every part of yourself, but do it consciously, so that it is used in a powerful, meaningful way, rather than in a harmful, destructive way.I only feel now that I am coming into really being the person that I was born to become.Boundaries are an act of self love, boundaries teach other people how to respond to us, how to treat us in life. The most amazing thing about horses is that they don’t apologise for their boundaries, and they don’t have to tell the other horses where their boundaries are. They embody their boundary.Horses only trust people who are congruent and people who are present, and people who are honest and real. She helps me to access parts of myself that I haven’t been able to access in the past.Sovereignty is self governance, self leadership. What we can learn from horses is that we can just let it go. And we can just be in the present moment.Self reflection is the hardest work, because you have to be able to tolerate the uncomfortable feelings that come about through taking responsibility.I don’t believe that anybody needs an expert in their lives to tell them what to do. I believe that everybody has that deep knowing called intuition.Intuition is the deep knowing that is connected with our heart and with our soul. The adult self is the sovereign woman. The instinctive feminine, the wisdom, the woman that we are striving to become. When the 3 archetypes all align, then we become whole and complete, our nervous system relaxes. It is not intellectual. Words are used sometimes, but it is a felt experienceThey are not mistakes, they are learnings. All we have is the present moment, and just a whole lot of gratitude.

Quotes:There is something sacred about sitting down with words that were felt, crafted and lived by another human being.Reading is not just consumption, I feel it is about connection. When you open a book, I feel like you just step into someone else’s world. It wakes a part of our imagination and even our hearts can soften.A great book carries energy. It reminds you of the magic of storytelling. There is that wonderful inspirational feeling of reading, the kind that lifts you, grounds you, and reminds you of who you are and who you are becoming.Just a few pages a day can shift your mindset, reset your energy, and even reconnect you to your own beautiful purpose.I think reading is a daily ritual of self love.We don’t just read books. I think we experience them.It is like having a wise friend, a storyteller, or a mentor right there with you.In a world of fast answers, I think reading reminds us to take a breathe, be present and slow down. There is still something magical about holding a book in your hands.Take the time just for you. That is the ultimate act of self love.

In this heartfelt and inspiring episode of the Self Love Podcast, Kim speaks with radiographer and author Elise Helliwell who shares her journey from science and motherhood into the world of fiction writing. Elise opens up about how the isolation of COVID lockdowns and her experience with postnatal depression became the catalyst for writing her debut time travel romance novel, Within the Space of a Second.
The conversation explores creativity, imagination, and the healing power of storytelling, as Elise discusses her writing process, character development, and the craft books that helped shape her work. She also gives us a glimpse into the next instalment of her trilogy and shares her dream of one day seeing the series adapted for film.
Filled with insight, warmth, and encouragement, this episode is a reminder to listen to your creative whispers, make space for what lights you up, and trust that it is never too late to begin.
About EliseElise Helliwell resides on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, with her husband and two cheeky girls. An avid romance reader, Elise writes contemporary and sci-fi/fantasy romance, juggling themes of love, anticipation and emotional angst. Part time radiographer and full time hopeless romantic, Elise’s writing combines her love of science and the romance genre to produce suspenseful, swoon-worthy love stories that will keep readers falling until the very last page.
Elis’s debut, Within the Space of a Second is a slow-burn, swoon-worthy love story about two people separated by time and the dangerous secrets that threaten to tear them apart. A debut time travel romance for fans of The Seven Year Slip, Divine Rivals and A Discovery of Witches. Out now in paperback, audiobook and electronic formats.
Her definition of Self Love is: My definition of self love is giving myself the time and space to be creative
Her favourite quote is: If you don’t come out of this quarantine with either a new skill, starting what you have been putting off, like a new business, or more knowledge, you never lacked the time you lacked the discipline

Quotes:I would describe myself as bubbly, positive and not afraid of a challenge.I never thought that I would write a book.I just couldn’t find the book that I wanted to read. So I thought, I will just write it.There was this fear that people would say, you know, she is not a writer, she is a science girl, she is a radiographer.I believed in the story.I knew that even though I wasn’t the best writer in the world, I knew that I could learn and I was determined to.I believe that anyone who wants to write, they should, because the only way that you get better is by continuing to practice that skill.Writing was my escape from all the things going on in life that I was struggling with.Writing was the thing that saved me.I think letting your imagination run wild is a beautiful thing. There is this thing that I love to do, that I never even knew I could do.It isn’t art, but it’s an art that can be taught and can be learned, which is what I love.I think since the age of time, we have always been storytellers. It is just having the courage to listen to that whisper and begin writing if you want to.If you have those little whispers and you push them aside, it is a real missed opportunity because you never know where it might lead and how it might help you in the future.Writing is my mental health time. You can’t edit a blank page.Creativity comes in all forms. So don’t be afraid to find yours and embrace it and listen to that little whisper.

Quotes:Being soulful is all about being fully present in your life.Being soulful means giving yourself permission to ponder, to reflect, to dream, to feel, to be.It means not measuring every moment by its productivity, but by its presence. The soul does not thrive in constant urgency. It flourishes in spaciousness.Perhaps self-love today isn’t about doing more.Life is not a race to be won. But an experience to be deeply, truly felt.A soulful life is not found somewhere in the future. It is waiting for us right here, right now in this very moment.

Quotes:EmilyI have realised in my mid 40s creating events is my superpower. The soulful long lunches were born because of connection and to be inspired and then be nourished on all levels.I have always loved events and experiences and authentic connection with community. As daunting as it can be to arrive at an event by yourself, we do have a lot of people that do it and they connect with others straight away.It is a time to pause and come into the space, come into that moment of time.I want people to go away with some tools that they can use in their daily lives.I wanted to tie in just a bit more of an authentic experience where we are around a dining table and we do have that connection.I wanted to make it a bit more accessible to people as well.Simplify as much as possible and finding those things in your life that make you feel connected.Connection with beautiful food and then connection with people. Those people that fulfil your cup and make you feel light and bright, stay with them and feel that connection.
CyndiWhen the ecology is working, the plants are working, the animals are healthy, the plants are healthy, and then we eat foods that are highly nutritious. When we nourish our body because we are eating foods that are nourished by our farmer and then cooked by the chef. There are many ingredients for health. It is not just nutrition, it is sunshine, movement, connection.I do it for me and my family foremost. As I learn, I teach. When we learn and we educate, you don’t know the lives that you are changing. We try and be the best that we can and then that knock on effect happens.I think we are in a bubble, but the bubble’s bigger than it was when I started this back in the 80s.I always believe when you have a philosophy, then you know exactly what you should be eating. It is nice to have praise to know you are on the right track.Community is really important. Connect and support your community and that will help with commerce.Buy local as much as you can buy from your local people.
