Thursday Sep 24, 2020
Thursday Sep 24, 2020
“If it was described as a personality then I know Valerie Ann Worwood has described it as the ‘mother’ or ‘grandmother’ of essential oils. And she says that Lavender’s personality is eclectic and formidable, yet gentle and kind. She’s able to care for a multitude of physical and psychological problems and like a mother, can accomplish several jobs at the same time.”
If there was one essential oil to have in your repertoire Lavedner (Lavendula augustifolia or Lavendula officinalis) would have to be it.
Considered to be one of the safest and most versatile of all essential oils lavender has miraculous qualities for both body and mind.
It can be of great value during times of stress and anxiety, even panic as well as in times of challenge and crisis. It can help to release restrained emotions and restore equilibrium.
Lavender is said to be antibacterial and cell stimulating to being a sedative and a wonderful insect repellent. It has analgesic properties which will help dispel headaches and migraines. It’s anti-inflammatory qualities will help with bruising, muscle strains and burns and or infection.
A drop on a tissue can do wonders under the pillow case or sheet to help induce a night of better sleep and on a tissue in the car if feeling anxious or nervous.
A wonderful oil to have on hand in your bag or car as you never know when a stressful moment may occur.
The benefits of lavender are many:
For the mind, it can be healing to the heart, gently sedating, nurturing, comforting and soothing.
For the body, it can be an excellent tonic, helo to boost the immune system, great first aid oil and helps to promote recovery.
For the skin, it can be cell rejuvenating, healing, soothing and calming.
For the emotions, it can help relieve impatience, irritability, mood swings, anger, hysteria, over-sensitivity and insecurity.
Four words that best describe lavender are:
NURTURING, RELAXING, COMFORTING and CALMING
It may assist with coughs, colds, catarrh and fever, burns, bites, stings, rashes, headaches and insomnia, asthma, respiratory conditions and all skin conditions.

SLP 7: My Reality My Choice with Dr Maria Zuschmann
Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
Tuesday Sep 22, 2020
“I always try and walk my talk. I own my humanness and I own my imperfections when I’m a bit off track. And one of the things that keeps me really well on track is the fact that I show up. And if I’m teaching this stuff I better bloody be walking my talk right?” Dr M
This is a powerful interview with one of Australia’s most renowned health and wellness experts Dr Maria Zuschmann, who is also affectionately known as Dr M. Maria is an Integrative Chiropractor, Speaker, Author, Podcaster and Stress Adaptation & Performance Coach. Dr M has been in the Health, Wellness and Performance space for over 20 years. Spending her early years in private practice as a Chiropractor developing a very keen interest in helping her clients with their Stress Adaptation structurally and through Posture Correction along with wellness workshops.
Dr M wanted to be a Chiropractor since she was 14 after her first experience with a Chiropractor herself. Her Dad had started to see the local Chiropractor after his first stroke. Dr M solidified her passion for proactive health care when in her early 20’s her dad passed away and her body didn’t respond well at all to the stress. Dr M showed what we now know are classic signs of being stuck in Sympathetic Dominance otherwise known as Fight/Flight… and this was the starting point of her journey into being passionate about helping others hopefully avoid or get out of such a state as quickly as possible so it doesn’t have long term impact.
In this interview, we talk openly about the paradigms we choose to live in for example disruption or destruction? We talk about looking at your values and belief systems and owning the option of – ‘my reality, my choice’.
We discuss peeling back the layers into self enquiry and how the stories we tell over and over can become our truths. We talk about how to live life consciously, how to be aware in the moment and appreciating that overwhelm is not being present but is often worrying about what’s happened in the past and what is to happen in the future. It’s understanding what we can control, what we cannot control and then accepting what is.
Maria describes the sad loss of her beautiful mum in just the past few weeks and then extraordinarily how she has chosen to deal with her grief.
We talk self love practices, the importance of breath and that optimal health includes a focus on the spine, body, mind and heart.
Some of Dr M’s self care strategies include:
self love
diaphragmatic breathing
meditation
energy management
mindfulness
We have neuroplasticity that is an ability to retrain the brain. We can create new habits and self care rituals.
Dr M talks about the 168 hours a week we each have and how we can map out over a week where to find extra time to do the things we want and need. She says all clever people she knows reads and recommends reading as an imperative part of self development and self care. If you take the time to work out where you spend your hours you may well find an extra 20hours a week to achieve what you really want.
When it comes to energy management what time of the day are you at your best? Energetically, who do you choose to spend your time with?
Dr M says how you show up in the time you have been given is essential. We need grace and space to move through each stage.
She recommends you take things in your stride and be gentle with yourself.
And finally, take time to ask yourself what serves me? What if you did open the door of possibility?

SLP 6: Self Love Quicky – 10 Morning Self Care Rituals
Thursday Sep 17, 2020
Thursday Sep 17, 2020
“Remember even if you have young children, there is always an opportunity to make some space or to allow them to see you doing the things you need to do, and make it a non-negotiable.”
Self-care is not selfish – it’s essential, and if you want to love yourself up you must make your self-care a priority. It’s a no-brainer.
The best time of the day to ensure you can do your self-care rituals is in the morning, and regardless of how busy you are, this is usually where you have more control over time than any other time of the day. You might have to get up slightly earlier to achieve a better self-care routine but it is well and truly worth it. The ripple effect is palpable.
In this week’s self-love quicky I share with you ten of my most favourite morning self-care rituals I love to embrace. I may not do all of them every day but they are most definitely a big part of my morning routine, even when my kids were young. I hope you get to try something new or step up your commitment to self-care. SLP 5: Know Thyself with Carren Smith
Tuesday Sep 15, 2020
Tuesday Sep 15, 2020
“It waxes and wanes, you know sometimes I think I’m amazing and I just love my own company and I feel like I’m in a whole world of bliss. And there are other times when I’m completely lost and I don’t know who I am, what I am or what my name is. And once again it brings me back to that little recipe of first of all know yourself.” Carren Smith
You are going to love this podcast.
Carren Smith is a powerhouse of positivity and success, she inspires transformation and a whole new way of thinking.
She often goes down the rabbit hole and today is no different. I love the way Carren challenges the status quo. She thinks very differently to most. She is spiritual and pragmatic. She calls it as she sees it and then can be a total mush-bucket when it comes to her precious love of animals.
In today’s podcast, Carren opens up about her definition of self-love, why she believes awareness is the first step to know oneself and that she truly believes she is a constant work in progress. She talks about how we can learn from contrast and that self-doubt is a chance to self-trust and to ask the question… how do I trust myself? The negatives and challenges in life are there to teach you the complete opposite.
Well known as one of Australia’s most exciting and dynamic motivational speakers, and one of the amazing hosts on the highly successful ‘Up For A Chat’ podcast, Carren captivates her audience with humour, energy and genuine engagement.
She is an amazing speaker and has been engaged to inspire audiences from 20 to 20,000. There is no one quite like her and she often leaves her audience feeling uplifted and determined to take action and make positive changes in their life, their business and in their relationships.
Carren is a dynamic leader, a motivator, and a survivor. She is an author, a trainer, a keynote speaker.
As a survivor of the 2002 Bali Bombing along with many other challenges which include the suicide of her De Facto and the personal impact of the 2004 Tsunami on her family, Carren’s comprehension of value, time, creativity and the meaning of life, charges her interviews and presentations with passion, credibility and a deep and genuine commitment to extraordinary achievements for people.
Her unique training programs and motivational speaking events have transformed the lives of thousands who have now found their voices, and their own sense of purpose and success through Carren Smith’s message.
She also happens to be one of my most amazing and precious friends and it is indeed an absolute honour to share her with you today. Carren is one of the kindest, funniest, cleverest and most treasured souls I know. What a privilege to call her one of my besties. Make sure you let her know what you think of the interview today. SLP 4: Self Love Quicky on Exercise
Thursday Sep 10, 2020
Thursday Sep 10, 2020
“Now I know there are different personality types out there and I know for many different people you might be at the beginning journey of doing regular exercise, and some of you could be regular exercise addicts. I came up with something that might be quite helpful for a lot of people. There are just three types of exercise, in my opinion, to get done every day.” Kim Morrison
The human body was designed to be active and move. You cannot achieve optimum health and vitality if you are sedentary – no matter how good your diet is. In this week’s Self Love Quicky we dive into why we need to move our body and how distractions and making excuses are not serving us.
The topic of exercise is as big as nutrition. It can also be as confusing. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you move your body as long as you are moving it! You might be someone who loves to walk fast or run, play competitive sport or you might love the gym. Or you could be someone who loves nature walks or yoga or mountain climbing or dancing.
It seems that one of life’s biggest challenges for a lot of people is to exercise on a regular basis. I know for some they would much rather pop a magic herbal pill, some would prefer someone else do it for them. But I am yet to meet anyone who has done some form of exercise gone, bummer wish I hadn’t done that! Wouldn’t it be great if we all had a ‘walk the dog attitude’? Imagine being that excited to get out there and exercise every day.
Your emotional and physical health are very strongly linked and to be fit emotionally and physically, it gives you the edge to support yourself through your health journey. A positive attitude will help you overcome any self-sabotage or negativities towards exercise. But that takes discipline.
I appreciate there are different personality types and different levels of needs out there. So I have come up with three types of exercise that might be of assistance.
1 – 45E – 45-minute Endurance – get out for a walk, jog, cycle, swim, dance, gym class or training session for at least 45minutes.
2 – 20I – 20-minute Intensity – do a fast walk, run, steps, cycle or swim for 20minutes and on the 6th, 10th, 14th and 18th minute push it hard
3 – Fab4in5 – 4 exercises completed in just 5 minutes that include tricep dips, squats, sit-ups and press-ups. Start with 5 of each and build up each week.
In the scheme of things, none of these takes up too much time, just a commitment to actually doing it. For life.
And a really important self love tip is you cannot berate your body, or be upset with it when you look in the mirror, if you do not feed it well and move it often. You actually have no right if you are not willing to invest in it. Your body should be treated like an absolute temple.
And if we still haven’t convinced you, here are some compelling reasons why you should move your body on a regular basis:
– Energy levels rise and you feel better
– Being active improves mental health and wellbeing
– You can have fun with like-minded people
– You might be able to eat a little more without gaining weight
– Weight is likely to maintain and stay off
– Your posture improves
– Exercise helps maintain or increase flexibility
– Exercise promotes better sleep and rest
– Moving your body will help eliminate toxins
– Disuse is a disaster, use it or you will lose it
– Moving your body increases oxygen levels
– Inactive muscles shrink
– Exercise increases bone strength and density
– Improves bowel function
– Creates a good strong pulse
– Blood pressure can remain more constant
– Exercise makes your heart fit
– You save money
NO more excuses, to be extraordinary and to love yourself up means you have to get up off your butt and get that body moving.
And here’s a wee bonus ~ my favourite essential oil blends for exercise are:
Detox & Strengthen – juniper, rosemary, spanish cypress, lemongrass, grapefruit pink, black pepper and roseEnergy & Vitality – rosemary spanish, basil, lemon, lime and black pepperFocus & Clarity – grapefruit, rosemary, myrtle and spearmintImmune Boost – eucalyptus, lavender, tea tree, cedarwood and pine

SLP 3: Love, Life and Perceptions with Cyndi O’Meara
Tuesday Sep 08, 2020
Tuesday Sep 08, 2020
“I don’t care who you are as a human being, there are things that happen in your life that are absolutely devastating and you may be what you believe to be the cause of it. And no matter how perfect the Universe is these things are obviously there, I don’t know for what reason, but it was a time I did not like myself and I still struggle with that one, you can hear it in my voice. I still struggle. I’ve never spoken about this publicly.” Cyndi O’Meara
I am super excited to share someone very precious to me today. The amazing Cyndi O’Meara who is not only an incredible Nutritionist, Educator and Researcher, but the founder of Changing Habits and The Nutrition Academy.
Cyndi also happens to be one of my best and most precious of friends. We have known each other for over 16 years and consider one another to be a sister from another mister!
Cyndi is passionate about educating. Her greatest love is to teach, both in the public arena and within the large corporate food companies, to enable everyone to make better choices so they too can enjoy greater health throughout their lives. Her unique, surprisingly simple yet extensively researched but down-to-earth approach, challenges and encourages others to eliminate unhealthy habits and has inspired thousands to make smarter choices about the food they choose to put into their body.
Cyndi confronts her audiences, whether, within the public or corporate sectors, she has the courage to call out deception and misinformation and believes in arming people with the tools and resources to reach their goals.
Many would consider Cyndi as someone who has it all together, someone who is highly successful and always leading the way. But as you listen in to this show you will see she shares some very personal and intimate moments when she feels the complete opposite to that. She talks about her life growing up and how, along with her brother, she has quite a different perspective to that of her sister’s. She talks about losing her mother and sister so young. You will love Cyndi’s definition of self-love and what she believes to be the biggest problem in society right now. Cyndi says when she is not at her best and what she absolutely loves about herself. And you will love her self-care rituals, hero’s and what she loves to do to top her own tank.
Cyndi believes we are in a collective consciousness right now, a chance to raise our vibration and to awaken to what is really important in life.

SLP 2: Self Love Quicky on Aromatherapy
Thursday Sep 03, 2020
Thursday Sep 03, 2020
What is aromatherapy? How does it work? Which are the best oils for what condition? Is it safe?
In this Self Love Quicky I will give you a short and simple overview of this incredible modality.
The use of essential oils has been documented for over 4,000 years. It is not a new therapy in scientific terms but it is an extraordinary and ancient one. I want to share with you some important things to consider; safety of essential oils, aromatic anchoring, how to create a synergy blend and some of the most amazing teachers and leaders in this field, including Robert Tisserand, Salvatore Battaglia, Shirley Price, Daniel Penoel, Kurt Schnaubelt, Dr Eric Zielenski, Pat Princi-Jones, Robbi Zeck, Megan Larsen, Jennifer Jefferies, Liz Fulcher, Farida Irani, Valerie Ann Worwood, Sabrina Zielenski, Vanessa Megan Gray, Patricia Davis and Bo Hengden to name a few.
I have been an aromatherapist for almost 30 years. I have seen it grow hugely over the past decade and seen the rise of many amazing companies and brands. My only word of caution is to use them with care, do not be lured into taking them willy-nilly orally by an over-enthusiastic user. Always use them diluted on your skin. Follow the guidelines and correct dilutions for each method of use. Make sure you stick to the golden rule that less is best.
Aromatherapy has been a huge part of my life. It is my go-to, my number one tool for everyday ailments and concerns. I am so excited to share with you my love for this incredible therapy. Stay tuned over the coming weeks for more simple ways to use essential oils in your home and life.
If you would like to download a copy of a Quick Reference Blending guide on the safe number of drops for each method of use go to www.twenty8.com under About.

SLP 1: The Art Of Self Love
Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
Tuesday Sep 01, 2020
‘I’m not saying what the answer is. I created the steps because to me they evolved in such a way that allowed us to be human and have our constraints, and our weaknesses and our faults and all the things that we question. But then also to really appreciate the strengths and the beauty and the wisdom and the knowledge and the desire to learn and open up.’ Kim Morrison
We are told constantly that in order to be our best or to truly love another, we must first love ourselves. The problem is there is no rule book or pathway that shows us exactly HOW to do it, especially where we are in the throes of massive challenge or pain.
Whilst we may not want them or indeed ask for them, there are no doubts that these challenges and pains are a large part of the human experience, no one escapes them.
In the opening episode of The Self Love Podcast the amazing Marcus Pearce (co-host of The Wellness Couch and 100 Not Out podcast) interviews Kim Morrison the host of this brand new show.
Kim was a part of the dynamic trio with Cyndi O’Meara and Carren Smith on the Up For A Chat podcast that started in 2012 and had 374 shows to their name. She decided it was time to dedicate a show specifically around the topic of self-love.
An entrepreneur, speaker and mum, and someone who really believes that love is the answer for all things, Kim opens up to Marcus as to why she feels it was time to launch this show here in the spring of 2020.
She briefly explains how she came to write ‘The Art Of Self Love’ an internationally acclaimed, award-winning book and the 6 steps she believes will have you stay in the work and master your ability to get through the challenges of life and rise above them with courage, grace and strength.
Kim draws on her personal experiences and research to explain how powerful it is to take responsibility for your life and appreciate that no matter what the past, no matter what happens today or what is yet to come, we each have the ability to live life with more consciousness and awareness. She shares how tough times do not need to determine or govern us, in fact, there is a chance they will break us open and send us on a deeper more personal and spiritual quest.
Kim and Marcus briefly discuss each of the 6 steps and how they can be implemented into even the busiest of lives.
With this podcast show, Kim wants to create a space where we can listen in, connect, care, grow, evolve… and never ever feel alone.
