SLP 20: Self Love Quicky – Essential Oil Safety
Thursday Nov 05, 2020
Thursday Nov 05, 2020
I get asked all the time about essential oils and the safety guidelines for each method of use.
This week I wanted to give you a quick overview of the main safety issues and how to use your oils so that you can use them safely and effectively in your own home.
Essential oils can be a wonderful addition to your health and wellbeing program. They are derived from natural substances such as trees, fruits, roots and flowers. However, just because they are derived from nature, it doesn’t mean that they are always safe to use. Natural doesn’t equate to safe. Water is safe, but in excess amounts, it can be dangerous. Arsenic is natural. Poison Ivy is natural. You get the gist.
There are some general safety guidelines which we need to adhere to, for the safety of our family, friends, animals and ourselves.
Method of Application
Essential oils may be applied to the skin, diffused, inhaled or taken internally. Each of these methods has safety issues which need to be considered. Inhalation is generally considered the safest, and ingestion that most risky. All methods are valid, however, each method needs to take into account the individual, the need, the quality of the oils, and the method of application.
Sometimes the simplest way to use oils is often the best. A drop or two on a tissue for inhaling can be great for nasal congestion. This approach can also be great for when feelings of anxiousness arise.
I will delve into different application methods and approaches in another podcast but for now, the overview of safety is as follows:
Dilution
The neat application of essential oils to the skin is best avoided as it can cause a number of potential concerns. Applying essential oils ‘neat’ means that you are placing the oils directly onto the skin without dilution or using them full strength. This practice was acceptable in the past; however, it is now known that this can cause irritations, sensitisations, and other skin issues.
In acute situations, it might be the best option to use a known ‘safe’ oil neat, however, this practice is becoming ill-advised. A drop of Lavender oil on a bee sting would be ok, however, if you were being exposed to bee stings continually, then this option may not be safe. You would need to come up with a safer and more effective option.
How do we dilute? We dilute our essential oils with fixed oils, or what we call in aromatherapy terms carrier oils. Carrier oils would be oils like Fractionated coconut oil, MCT oil, Sweet Almond oil, Avocado, Macadamia and Jojoba to name but a few.
In aromatherapy, a 2.5% dilution is a good and safe level for many applications. To work out how many drops of essential oils you need to add to your preferred carrier, first you need to know your amount of carrier. Say you have 10mls of carrier, half that number, which in this case is 5), then and add that number of essential oils in drops for a 2.5% dilution. 10mls equals a total of 5 drops for a 2.5% dilution. 20mls would be 10 drops in total. 5mls would be 2.5drops which you can’t do so go with the 2 drops. Please note that is equation is based on the assumption that 20 drops equal 1ml.
You will find other charts available on how to dilute, but first check the basic assumption of how many drops per ml. We have referenced the Tisserand chart for you, note that this chart assumes 30 drops per ml.
You can also go to Twenty8 for the Quick Reference Blending Guide to download to help make it even more simple right here.
In general, you will find most aromatherapy essential oil blends will be diluted at a 1% to 5% dilution. At these rates, they generally won’t pose a safety risk. When we increase the dilution, that is more essential oils less carrier oil, the risk is increased. The following advice is based on Tisserand’s safety guidelines.
For facial applications, a 0.2 to 1.5% dilution is considered safe.
For massages, a 1.5 to 3% dilution is the safest approach.
For bath and body products, a 1 to 4% dilution is considered safe.
For specific concerns, you can increase dilution to 4 to 10%
For pain and wound management, you can increase dilution to between 5 and 20%.
Please note that these recommendations do not take into account dermal limits for specific oils. Some essential oils are known skin irritant, and therefore require lower dilutions.
For babies, children and the elderly, a low dilution is the best and safest approach. It is generally recommended to use a 0.5 to 2.5% dilution.
Storage and Shelf Life
Keep your oils in a safe place – ensure that all bottles are tightly closed, stored in a cool area, and away from direct sunlight. Light and oxygen are not your oils best friends. In fact, they can degrade your oils more quickly. If your oils degrade, also known as oxidisation, it can make them irritating and less effective.
Essential oils do have a shelf life. Citrus oils, such as Lemon, Lime and Orange are more susceptible to degradation than root oils such as Vetiver and Patchouli.
Phototoxicity
Some essential oils are phototoxic meaning that they can cause irritation, inflammation, and redness when exposed to sunlight. In general, Citrus oils are the most likely to cause a phototoxic reaction due to their chemical makeup, however not all oils are photosensitive or phototoxic. The most common oils that are photosensitive are:
Bergamot (Citrus bergamia)
Cold pressed lemon (Citrus limon)
Cold pressed grapefruit (Citrus paradisi)
Cold pressed lime (Citrus aurantifolia)
There are, however, non-photosensitive versions available, and it is, therefore, prudent to look for and use these, from a safety perspective.
General safety Notes
Do not place essential oils directly in the eyes, ears, nose and genitals.
Keep all essential oils out of reach of children and pets.
Avoid prolonged use of the same essential oil or essential oil blend.
If you have chemical sensitivities, known allergies or are generally sensitive, it would be wise to perform a skin patch test.
Essential oils are highly flammable substances and should be kept away from direct contact with flames, such as candles.
If you have any doubts, questions or concerns, please consult with your primary healthcare practitioner, or a qualified professional aromatherapist. To find a professional aromatherapist in your area, check www.iaama.org.au or www.australiannaturaltherapistsassociation.com.au

SLP 19: Surrender To What Is with Guy Lawrence
Tuesday Nov 03, 2020

“I truly believe if I want my daughter to be happy, then I need to be happy. If I need her to express love then I need to express love. If I want her to… whatever that might be, I know I need to be that person myself. So the more I can work on myself slowly each day, bit by bit, small gains every day instead of trying to compress everything for a month and then forgetting about it doesn’t work like that right? So the more I see Ava the more it makes me want to work on being the best version of myself so I know that it will reflect directly back in her as well.” Guy Lawrence
This is a phenomenal interview with an extraordinary soul. Guy Lawrence is a coach, speaker, wellness advocate and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Let It In, a program designed to help people bridge the gap between the life they live and the life they truly want to live. using meditation and the language of neuroscience. This is facilitated via live workshops, retreats and the online Live In Flow membership-based community program. He also supports people via his podcast called ‘Let It In with Guy Lawrence’. These include conversations with pioneering experts that go well beyond conventional health, wealth, and wisdom to inspire change in our lives.
We talk about how our thoughts drive behaviours and how the four pillars of wellness can show us how to do life with courage ~ awareness, acceptance, intention and inspired action can help us to do life well. We dive deep into the neuroscience and how we can lean into ourselves. We need to reclaim our power and energy, create habits, rituals and practices, and take action in this work. Create stable foundations and intentionally direct ourselves towards what it is that we truly want, based on how we feel. These skills are required to do humanness well.
One of the best practices Guy recommends to feel completely safe and aware is in meditation and having gratitude. The greatest meditation you do is when your eyes are open not when we close our eyes in silence for 10 or 30 minutes a day. Learn to generate real feelings of gratitude to connect back in. Like sitting in nature for two weeks as you can imagine would revitalise us in ways we cannot even articulate.
The heart is a great gateway and a beautiful part of our body to bring awareness for gratitude. If we are not willing to practice self-preservation then the future self may stay locked. You can energetically connect with yourself and others more easily. He said the most simple things in life are often the most beautiful and it makes you question what really matters. And his greatest message is to look fear in they eye and surrender to what is.
And one of the most beautiful parts of this conversation is each time Guy mentions his precious baby daughter Ava.
Just you wait. Love Guy to bits.

SLP 18: Self Love Quicky – The Body Boost Ritual Everybody Needs
Thursday Oct 29, 2020
Thursday Oct 29, 2020
“My goodness, this is one of the most beautiful rituals, the most inexpensive, most amazing gifts you could give yourself. The amount of emails and messages I have received, particularly from women, who have embraced this ritual where they have learnt to love their body’s up, they have learnt to really embrace who they are right here in the moment.”
We may be all guilty of it at times and many of us are often quick to criticise our body, be disappointed in it or abuse it. It is more common than we care to think so here is a daily ritual that could literally change your life and the way you treat your temple from here on in.
Think about how you feel when you stand naked in front of a mirror? If for some reason you cannot stand in front of the mirror every morning and say something nice, then you may find this ritual a lifesaver.
Just remember it’s ok to want to change your body, but aim for better health rather than weight loss or shape change. If the focus is on feeling better, there are fewer chances of disappointment when certain weight or size measurements are not achieved. Give yourself time to change if that is what you would like to happen. Don’t expect miracle creams or surgery to ‘fix’ you! The daily body boost ritual will have you honouring your body and nurturing it before you know it. The focus is on better health, not your size.
If you would like to see me demonstrating the Daily Body Boost then click here.
What you will need:
Essential oils or beautiful blends you love
A massage base oil like avocado or coconut or sweet almond
Magnesium Health Spray
A small glass or ceramic bowl
And your naked body!
Once you get out of the shower and pat yourself dry, choose three pure essential oils to support you throughout the day. You may have a long full-on day ahead so it would be important to choose oils that were going to be uplifting and enduring like Rosemary, Lemon, Peppermint, Myrrh, Lime or Basil. Or you could be feeling a little run down or tired so go for healing, stimulating oils like Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Pine, Ginger, Cypress or Orange. If your skin is dry and looking like it could do with some good nutrition, then go for the skin active oils like Frankincense, Rose, Palmarosa, Rosewood, Geranium or Bergamot.
There are many choices available to you, what is important is that you choose high-quality products and three oils that you like. The most wonderful thing about choosing your three essential oils is the fact that you are asking yourself every morning ‘How do I feel?’ Normally we are so busy getting everyone else ready or thinking about what we have to do for the day ahead that we forget the most important thing of all – and that is you. Acknowledge the body first thing every morning is a powerful way to set yourself up for a great day. It is all about your intention.
Body Blends:
Energetic: Black Pepper, Lemon, Rosemary
Confident: Lime, Jasmine, Sandalwood
Uplifted: Bergamot, Peppermint, Rosewood or Rosemary
Endurance: Myrrh, Orange, Geranium
Sexy and Feminine: Ylang Ylang, Orange, Patchouli
Immune Booster: Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Lavender
Refreshed: Grapefruit, Pine, Cypress
Creative: Pine, Rosemary, Clary Sage
Celebratory: Orange, Clary Sage, Frankincense
Essential oils have the ability to work on an emotional level too. If you are not sure which oils to choose for your daily body boost then try one of these recipes to lift your mood. By doing this you not only help yourself but also the people around you will benefit!
Choose one drop of each oil and add to your teaspoon of massage base-oil. Rub briskly over the whole body from your toes to your head and take three deep breaths at the end holding both hands over the face saying something positive and genuine and real.
Good Mood Oils:
Pre-Menstrual: Clary Sage, Geranium, Orange
Tired: Rosemary, Lemon, Basil
Emotionally vulnerable: Rose, Geranium, Chamomile
Angry: Bergamot, Cypress, Chamomile
Anxious: Neroli, Lavender, Frankincense
Depressed: Clary Sage, Lime, Geranium
Negative: Juniper, Lime, Grapefruit
Fat and frumpy: Rose, Neroli, Jasmine
Stressed: Chamomile, Geranium, Rosewood
It doesn’t really matter how you rub your body as long as you go from head to toe or toe to head and do all over and really wake your body up and acknowledge every part of it. I tend to start at the toes and work my way up each leg, into the tummy region in a clockwise direction to support digestive functions, up over the chest and shoulders, across the lower back, buttocks and tops of thighs. Work as far as you can up the back and across the shoulder blades, then work down each arm. Finish scraping the bowl and using upward strokes into the neck, then complete by compressing and inhaling onto the face.
This really is one of the most lovely things you can do for yourself and it really is simple, effective and not at all time-consuming.
I challenge you to take this morning ritual on and see how you are feeling after four weeks. Everyone I have met who has taken this on solidly for the full 28 days have become committed devotees for life. Your skin will feel fantastic, there will be no more dry skin on your body, but more than that, you will feel better on the inside. You will feel special, nurtured and energised.
If you would like to make the whole ritual even quicker and more simple then we have a range of amazing Body Boost Oil blends already made up with the magnesium and correct ratio of oils to make your choices easy.

SLP 17: Relentless with Lisa Tamati
Tuesday Oct 27, 2020
Tuesday Oct 27, 2020
“When you talk to someone as if they’re an athlete and this is our goals, and this is where we are going, they act like an athlete. They have more self-discipline, the have more motivation because they believe that they are moving forward and going somewhere. There are just so many lessons that I’ve learnt and that are all sort of chronicled in the book that really shows the power of being relentless of going all-in on something despite all the naysayers, despite all the people telling you that it’s absolutely impossible… I just ignored every one of those and just kept going in blind faith. Blind faith is sometimes what we all need.” Lisa Tamati
Lisa Tamati is one hell of an extraordinary woman. Not only an extreme endurance athlete, Lisa is someone who, when challenged, shows nothing but relentless tenacity, strength and courage. She would be one of my biggest ‘girl crushes’ and I am super excited to share her with you this week.
Lisa recently released her book titled ‘Relentless’ which was written because her beloved mum Isobel had suffered a brain aneurysm and a stroke, resulting in massive brain damage, she was like a baby in a woman’s body. The prognosis was dire. ‘Relentless’ is powerful; it is a story of despair, hope, love and incredible insights found in the darkest of moments.
As you listen to Lisa speak and share her thoughts on her mum and around topics of self-love, self-respect and self-belief you will be inspired on the concept of never ever giving up. It’s about beating the odds and doing whatever it takes to go ‘all-in’. And most importantly her lessons on learning the power to love all of herself. With struggles around body image, self-worth and negative self-talk she shares very openly and honestly how she has worked through those inner demons from 15 to now being 51years of age.
Her one message to all women is, ‘We have a set of genes that need to be loved and respected. It’s bull-shit to think otherwise. We need to be a healthy weight for our genetic type. It’s about being healthy. There’s not just one aesthetic ideal, there’s no right or wrong. We are all different shapes and types. We need to accept and optimise that and then love that to bits.’
Most of all she would love you to understand that YOU are an absolute MIRACLE. Live a life that is absolutely full and to the max. Leave this place better than you found it. Give more than you take. Take chances. Do not be afraid to fail.
Her book is available here please make sure you get a copy – it is seriously life-changing and was one of the inspirations for me to start my Self-Love and Wellness Mentorship Program.
Here’s a little more about the beautiful Lisa Tamati.
Lisa is a Professional Ultra-Endurance athlete with 25 years experience running the toughest endurance events in the world.
With over 140 ultra-marathons to her name, as well as National Titles, a number of podium places in international races, and many expeditions under her belt Lisa is constantly pushing the limits of human endurance. Lisa has also penned two international best-selling running books, and is a sought after motivational speaker, run coach and mindset expert.
But despite many of Lisa’s accomplishments, Lisa has also struggled with self-esteem, body image, weight problems, a lack of talent, depression, fear and anxiety, forcing Lisa to learn how to achieve the unattainable.
Lisa now passionately shares her learnings on how to achieve the extraordinary and how to beat the odds and will help you shortcut the path to transforming your body, your fitness, your health and your wellbeing.
Lisa also hosts a podcast called “Pushing the Limits” an in-depth interview series teaching on her favourite topics – running, the latest in medical and health science breakthroughs, fitness and nutrition, adventure and pushing the limits of human potential.
She studied Business Studies, Applied Management as well as Counselling and Human Relations before doing a Goldsmith Apprenticeship in Europe and running her own retail outlets in Austria and New Zealand.
Lisa is the owner and founder of a number of company’s in areas such as documentary production, PR management, manufacturing jeweller, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, events management and health and fitness coaching through her online platform Running Hot and Pushing the Limits

SLP 16: Self Love Quicky ~ Romance and Intimacy
Thursday Oct 22, 2020
Thursday Oct 22, 2020
“It’s an interesting thing to think about, which is why I love going back to the power of smell in order to boost and enhance and keep the passion alive in a relationship. We know there are certain plants and oils that can help boost our ability to feel intimate or boost our passion buttons to actually make us feel more intimately connected. And sometimes I know, apart from fatigue and busy in the busyness of life, it just takes a little bit of effort.”
Romance and intimacy form an important and fulfilling part of a relationship with your partner. Yet when our lives get busy, stress and fatigue can take their toll on our love life and it’s hard to be in the mood for love when you are totally exhausted. In this weeks podcast we look at ways to keep the passion alive and give some quick tips and ideas on how to boost your love life.
We know Aromatherapy can stir and arouse passion and there are indeed certain oils that can increase our sexual response. This is because they work on the limbic part of our brain, which is also responsible for our sex drive.
And oils with aphrodisiac qualities include: Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Clary Sage, Vetiver, Neroli, Rose, Sandalwood, Cardamon and Orange to name a few.
Involve your sense of smell and touch to keep your love life alive.
Here are some aromatherapy massage blends that may inspire. Simply place 10 drops in total into 20mls of carrier oil for the perfect massage blend:
In the Mood – Ylang Ylang, Orange and Neroli
Magic Moments – Patchouli, Mandarin and Ylang Ylang
Romantic Heart Melt – Rose, Sandalwood and Jasmine
Weekend Away – Bergamot, Ylang Ylang and Sandalwood
The Twenty8 blend I designed and named ROMANCE & INTIMACY is made up of Rose, Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Sandalwood, Orange and Rosewood. You can get this exquisite blend here and don’t forget your discount password – selflovepodcast
Some other simple things to do to keep your romance alive include:
Once a week try a pamper treatment with your partner like a footbath, hand massage, bath or shoulder rub.
Write beautiful love notes to your partner and leave them in places they will find them. You could add a drop of your favourite oil to them.
Never stop dating, plan date nights, even if just a picnic up the road.
The bedroom or ‘boudoir’ is your sanctuary to share. Don’t have arguments in here. Light your diffuser or vaporiser at least half an hour before retiring. Use candles, music and take care of one another.
Remember that you are both different with different needs at different times. Relationships are a full-time job, so take the time to invest in them. Read, listen, attend workshops… never stop learning about you and one another.
A good loving relationship is worth all the effort.
The quote from the movie Shall We Dance with Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon is:
“We need a witness to our lives. There’s a billion people on the planet… I mean what does any one life really mean? But in marriage, you’re promising to care about everything. The good things, the bad things, the terrible things, the mundane things… all of it, all of the time, every day. You’re saying ‘Your life will not go unnoticed because I will notice it. Your life will not go unwitnessed because I will be your witness.”
“I LOVE YOU means, that I accept you for the person that you are, and that I don’t wish to change you into someone else. It means that I do not expect perfection from you, just as you don’t expect it from me. ‘I love you’ means that I will love you and stand by you even through the worst of times. It means loving you when you are in a bad mood or stood tired to do the things I want tod o. It means loving you when you are down, not just when you’re fun to be with. I love you means I truly love you.” Deanne Laura Gilbert

SLP 15: We’re Responsible For Everything with Pete Evans
Tuesday Oct 20, 2020
Tuesday Oct 20, 2020
“Once we take full responsibility and accountability of our lives, the good, the bad, the ugly, the despair, the anguish, the fear, the joy, the wonder, the excitement, the love, the lust, the jealousy, the guilt – all of that – once we acknowledge and accept that it is in us and of us, of our own creating and our own relationships that we’ve chosen in life and our own decisions for the career that we’ve chosen, the place we decide to spend our time, whether it’s a geographical location, whether it’s a religious organisation, or industry that we’ve chosen to be a part of or not be a part of anymore, whether it’s a political alignment that we’ve chosen, whether it’s campaigning against 5G or campaigning against vaccine safety or campaigning again this, that and the other, and animal welfare… we have chosen that path. So if we create anguish from that, or if we’re creating despair in ourselves or frustration in ourselves… we chose that. We chose to battle against the system, or we’ve chosen to run away from the system or we’ve chosen indifference to it.” Pete Evans
Today I have the absolute pleasure of interviewing the amazing Pete Evans.
Pete Evans is an internationally renowned chef, restaurateur, entrepreneur, keynote speaker, author, television presenter and documentary producer. He also has a podcast called Evolve with Pete Evans, exploring nutritional and emotional wellbeing. His passion for food and a healthy lifestyle inspires individuals and families around the world.
Now I know some choose to judge and criticise and dislike who they think Pete is. There are some journalists and medical experts, political people and members of the public who will do anything and everything to knock him or make him look a fool or stupid or like he has no idea. I have heard people say ‘Pete should stick to cheffing’.
Whatever you think or don’t think I have had the privilege to know Pete for a number of years now, and I see someone who is just loving being him. In the fullest expression, Pete is being himself in the greatest sense of the word.
I am truly grateful for Pete’s Evolve podcast where I have heard him interview some of the world’s most clever souls. I have heard the highest of highest intellects, the most soul-driven academics and I have listened to him talk to many spiritual leaders and experts in their fields. His work is eye-opening and if you choose to listen in you will there are opportunities to decide for yourself whether the person being interviewed is aligned with your beliefs or not.
In this Self Love Podcast interview, we dive deep into the meaning of self-love. We ask the question if fear, self-sabotage and other negative occurrences can serve us. And his answer is a resounding hell yeah!
We talk plant medicine, psychedelic journies, toad medicine and ceremonial stepping into your fear and the unknown. A wonderful conversation with your higher self or source consciousness is available.
The book Pete mentions is called ‘Happy Money’ by Ken Honda
We talk about the Hero’s Journey which you can watch the animated story here – or here’s a slightly longer version here.
Pete talks about watching the world with illusionary p0pcorn watching it all unfold and trust that everything is in balance, everything is perfect. The vibration is lifting but for that to happen then potentially some bad shit might need to go down for the next awakening. That might seem strange but he says ‘I do trust and I do what I am personally called to do’.
If we can live by example, keep sharing then at least if we don’t know all the answers we’re doing our best.
He talks about how important it is to have our belief systems challenged. If someone is so hell-bent… as he was when a vegan 30 years ago, and two years later he was suffering and admitted he got it wrong. That’s why it took so long to come out Paleo and he may well change his mind if it no longer serves him.
Pete interviewed a gentleman Robert Edward Grant a well-revered mathematician (the podcast link is here) and when Pete asked him what is our purpose? He said, ‘It is a simple, mathematical, spiritual, musical, vibrationally light consciousness model, all we are all we have to do is get to know ourselves. That’s our purpose.’
Pete spoke of Jason Reynolds (who he interviewed on his show here) who said ‘All disease whether in a child, or adult, or grandparent, any human being, we take on other people’s energies. We take on other people’s fears and insecurities.’
Pete talks about his own journey with nightmares, therapy, spirituality and how he continues to be curious and keep an inquisitive and open mind. To practice self-love and non-judgement.
He talks about how people send him nasty things, and how those who send things like this has nothing to do with him, with any of us if it happens to us, his perception is there are severe insecurities about themselves. He talks about the investment he has made into himself with many modalities, and the key is to stay open to all things. He likes to incorporate different modalities and sees many different therapists to help balance or remove anything negative and to support him through all of life’s emotional, spiritual, mental and physical processes.
His advice is to have a curious mindset, less judgement and more forgiveness. He said be in awe and wonder without judgement if we can, even though that can be tricky sometimes.
His final message on the self-love path is to start and finish on YOURSELF. And to remember that what I do should have no bearing on anyone else’s life. He said do not forget to get the illusionary popcorn and look at your own life, your own story and be in awe of that too!

SLP 14: Self Love Quicky – Connections With Uluru
Thursday Oct 15, 2020
Thursday Oct 15, 2020
“There is nothing like going into deep-dive conversations with people you know well, and even more so people you don’t know well. There’s a vulnerability in sharing. There’s an absolute beauty in honouring each other’s vulnerabilities and listening to each of us tell our stories just reminded me so much of the importance of self-love and self-care and what it means to truly share yourself.”
I had the absolute pleasure of going to Uluru last week and marrying a very special couple. There was the photographer and videographer and me. Just the 5 of us. I had never been so was so looking forward to experiencing the spirit and magic of Uluru for myself.
And my goodness, it did not disappoint. The fact that Covid has happened meant we had hardly anyone there. We arrived and it was freezing, it rained and we got to experience full water holes and lightly flowing waterfalls down her face. Apparently, it had not rained like this since March.
As the week went on it got warmer and as we carried out beautiful spiritual rituals in the lead up to the ceremony we all got closer and more connected to Uluru. In fact, our word for the week was CONNECTION. Connection to Uluru, to a greater spirit, to Mother Earth and Father Sky, to each other and to ourselves.
I’m not sure any of us are returning the same people.
It made me appreciate the NZ culture and how precious the Maori and Pacific Island culture is. It made me connect more with the incredible Aboriginal culture and yet I still feel so naive to it all. I feel like I know nothing. That I’m just a baby on this spiritual path.
The spirits of the ancestral beings continue to reside in these sacred places making the land not only a deeply important part of Aboriginal cultural identity, but also to our Australian roots and the freedom to live in this country. It was an honour to acknowledge the Pitjantjatjara (pitjan-jah-jarra) and Yankunytjatjara (yan-kun-ja-jarra) people, the Traditional Custodians of this amazing place and know that they have walked this earth for over 60,000 years. It’s extraordinary really.
Marcus, the photographer, and I had an incredible last day together. The bride and groom were at Longitude. And after dropping off David the videographer to the airport we decided to follow the eagle we spotted in the sky. She was magnificent. So strong, graceful, beautiful and powerful. She lead us back to Uluru of course.
You will hear me explain our few encounters with her and how at one point standing at one end of Uluru looking at the scriptures and the ‘brain’ part of the rock, she appeared out of the trees and circled above us. We stood in pure presence of joy. It was like a reminder that the beauty, wonder, magic and awe we see and feel can be expected from now on and not a coincidence or a one-off.
I think that was my biggest take home. Along with connection and beautiful intention, I feel most definitely aligned with the idea that I can, and certainly do, deserve to expect miracles in my life.
This week was one of them.
Thankyou Uluru, thankyou to the traditional owners of this land, thankyou to New Zealand and all you have gifted me. I am proud and honoured to be a citizen of both countries.
Poem by Eva Johnson
Isolated rock,
that stands in silence
caress the earth,
while waters of tears
carry ancient stories
down your jagged crevasses,
to crystal pools
where women sing, wash, dance,
in ritual, protect
the secrets of your dreaming.
Hear their voices, their wails,
that echo against your ochred walls
whilst you stand dormant
only to be awakened
by voices of your keepers.
The Netflix documentary I mention is called ‘The Octopus Teacher’ it’s my new favourite.

SLP 13: Raising Hope And Possibility with Erin Barnes
Tuesday Oct 13, 2020
Tuesday Oct 13, 2020
“An email came through from Seth Godin this morning and it said, ‘Will everything be OK?’ And he’d written it depends on what you mean by that. Is everything going to be the way it was and how I expect it to be? Then the answer would be no! And it always has been no. But is everything going to be the way it’s going to be? Then yes because we don’t have control over that external environment. And the only way we can move through any uncertainty or helplessness or hopelessness is, ‘What is my next best step? What am I going to do about the situation I am in now?’ Instead of going too far forward, or looking back on what’s been and longing for what was because I don’t think right now we get that luxury of having what was. Everything is thrown on its head. So there’s a really great opportunity for us as individuals to come back to what’s truly important to me?” Erin Barnes.
I am excited to share this week’s podcast with the amazing Erin Barnes a specialist in physical health, mental wellbeing and stress resistance. And given the world we live in right now the information Erin shares will help you to realise you are not alone, how your brain is working and dealing with various stressors and what you can do to have the brain enjoy small wins.
Erin explains how the fear response, when activated, stops us seeing things and that ACTION is key when it comes to stepping out of fear. Although the brain is a rather complex organ we can look at it simply. If you have ever wondered how our brain actually receives and translates information you are going to love to hear how Erin teaches us how the neocortex (logic) basically goes offline when stressed, and the limbic part of the brain the emotional centre (the amygdala) comes online and dominates. It’s our fight or flight which causes immune suppression and pushes us quickly into autopilot.
Erin gives us some amazing tips to tame the amygdala:
Meditation
Moving through a process
Physical habits, sleep, movement
Hydration
Essential oils
Be present to the moment
Nutrition
Yoga
The first hour of the day is really important
Rituals in the home matter and it’s important to lead by example. Aim to sit together as a family, a team and check-in how everyone wants to show up? Post It notes could be a great help. It is the simple routines that will get us through and the accumulation effect that has huge positive outcomes. Ask yourself these questions to raise hope and possibility.
– How do I want to show up today?
– What do I need today?
– Ask those around you the same thing
– Use a Productivity Planner (Erin has designed an adult and child’s Planner for you to use in your home and family check out the link below)
We discuss the impact of social distancing and self-isolation and how to set up different ways to connect and communicate. We talk about what brings us down, what dulls us, and that for Erin includes busyness.
Erin mentions Brene Brown’s new Podcast – Unlocking Us Podcast – which talks about FFT’s (Freakin First Times!!) https://brenebrown.com/podcast/introducing-unlocking-us/
Leonie’s Podcast (Erin’s Sister) – The Splendid Word – Spread The Good News – https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/spreading-the-good-stuff-podcast/id1399953334
There is information shared on forgiveness, not feeling good enough and managing our emotions, how to be brave and do better self-care.
We talk about the benefits of writing LOVE NOTES to people you care about and love. And the power of good nutrition, what should you eat in times of stress?
Check out all of Erin’s work particularly around her 4 C’s Methodology and her Whole Life Success Planner in the links below.
Her favourite quote is:
My behaviour matters but after that, I have no control.

SLP 12: Self Love Quicky – 28 Self-Care Rituals
Thursday Oct 08, 2020
Thursday Oct 08, 2020
One of the most important writings that always reminds me of the importance of self-care is this beautiful Chinese Proverb; If there is light in the soul, there is beauty in the person.
If there is beauty in the person, there is harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation, there is peace in this world
In today’s Self Love Quicky I am sharing with you 28 self-care rituals I have used over the years for myself, my family and loved ones.
These come from my book ‘The Art Of Self Love’ and might just be the spark to ignite your own commitment to self-care.
A couple of rituals include doing the daily body boost which you can see a demonstration of me showing you how right here – https://twenty8.com/body-boost/
And then there is developing your own essential Self-Love Kit of essential oils which could include oils I love such as lavender, orange, geranium, marjoram, sandalwood, frankincense, black pepper and grapefruit to name a few. Here is the link to the Quick Reference Blending Guide to know how many drops to use for each method of use – https://twenty8.com/quick-reference-usage-guide/
It might be to carry a beautiful quote or poem with you, join a challenge of some sort, treat your face and hair and do the 4 S Ritual. The key is to make self-care a priority and to remember that self-care is not selfish – it’s essential!
Tune in to hear the rest of the suggested rituals and maybe commit to trying at least one new one a week. See how you go and I look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback.

SLP 11: Modelling Excellence with Juliet Lever
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
Tuesday Oct 06, 2020
“Generally life is like a repetition of the patterns and programming that we received in our imprint period which is about from the ages of 0-7 where you had your first experiences with the world where maybe you had an experience of being yelled at by your father. And if that’s still unhealed within you then you will be walking around activating a circumstance where your male boss at work is going to yell at you. It’s not the boss at work but it’s what that’s representing at an unconscious level that is still active, and wounded and needs to be healed. And the reason it hurts so much it is hurts like the 5-year-old girl. It hurts like it’s about war and your anger will probably be the lifetime of anger that you never healed towards your father. But it’s your boss in this case. The whole metaphor is powerful because so many people try to deal with the fruit in life. They go, I just need to find another job but what happens if that wound is still activated in us, we’ll get to another job and guess what? We’ll create another boss exactly the same or get into a relationship and create a partner that is going to show off the wounding towards the masculine.” Juliet Lever
This is a fascinating conversation with Juliet Lever all around the subconscious and the meaning we each create about our lives, about others and the way we view and participate in the world.
Based on our upbringing, our experiences, our expectations, our limitations and the imprinting that occurred, particularly in those first seven years, it can all have a massive impact on how we live our lives.
Juliet uses the power of a number of modalities particularly NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) which she believes are the key to the city of the subconscious mind. It is the study of excellence.
Juliet Lever teaches individuals and coaches the skills they need to change their lives and make a difference in the lives of others.
She is completely obsessed with understanding how we can recreate excellence in our lives as a result of a complete life change herself. As a result of a huge spiritual awakening and going on her own personal transformation she is now living a life that reflects living at her highest potential.
But it hasn’t always been an easy path. Juliet says it was lonely, confusing and scary at times. She has written a best-selling book “Relaunch My Life” which is a teaching memoir, and it guides the reader to learn through her journey with activities and tips to complete along the way.
Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Metaphysics from the University of Sedona, Licenced Heartmath Resiliency Coach, Certified NLP Trainer, Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Yoga Teacher, Reiki & Seichim Master, Karuna Level 1 Healer, Diploma of Business Management and a Diploma of Finance & Mortgage Broking.

SLP 10: Self Love Quicky on Making Yourself A Priority
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
Thursday Oct 01, 2020
‘What if you could receive compliments with ease and just say two words when someone comments on how great you look or what a great job you have done? Avoid throwing the compliment back in their face by seeking another or dismissing it altogether. Those two words are simple – THANK YOU!’
Everywhere I go the two biggest excuses I hear why people cannot take care of themselves, or treat themselves, or do something nice for themselves is that they do not have enough time or money. And given today’s fast-paced world and money pressures it is easy to accept these are valid excuses.
But I disagree. I believe the reason people neglect their self-care is not a lack of time or money: it is simpler than that. It is because they have not made themselves a priority.
In today’s podcast, I share a couple of quick stories in how people can turn this ‘martyr way of thinking’ into something way more positive. I believe through this simple mindset shift we can become great role models, not supermodels, not only for our kids, partner, family and friends but most importantly, for ourselves.
The most important asset you have your whole life is your health. However, many put the needs of others before themselves and often.
Your health and wellbeing should be your top priority. Whether that is buying healthy food, doing a sport that makes you feel good about your body or investing into the help that you may need at various times in your life – be it medical or for the heart – don’t let excuses get in your way.
It is your life – and you deserve the best.
If you are operating at your best, at ‘optimum levels’, you will be much more able to help others and take care of their needs too.
That’s why self-care is not selfish – it’s essential.

SLP 9: The Prize Of Acceptance with Dr Eric Zielinski
Tuesday Sep 29, 2020
Tuesday Sep 29, 2020
“I stumbled upon this quote from Michelle Obama and it made me stop and it made me really think. It really made me acknowledge areas where I took this for granted. And I think as a people we need to recognise in her words, ‘Communities and countries and ultimately the world are only as strong as the health of their women.’ That’s how I began part 3 of my book, talking about women’s health and how important it is, how vitally important from an evolutionary perspective, from a health perspective, fro a socio-economic perspective, from the family unit perspective. Communities and countries and ultimately the world are only as strong as the health of their women.’ Dr Eric Zielinski
This is a beautiful interview with a mentor, advisor, teacher and a very dear friend of mine, Dr Eric Zielinski who is also affectionately known as Dr Z.
Eric Zielinski, D.C. is a Doctor of Chiropractic who specializes in public health research and aromatherapy. A pioneer in the Biblical health space, Dr. Z is the author of the International Bestselling book The Healing Power of Essential Oils & The Essential Oils Diet, Executive Producer of The Hope for Breast Cancer documentary and creator of the Essential Oils for Abundant Living Masterclass. With his wife Sabrina (known as Mama Z), he founded NaturalLivingFamily.com in 2014, which has become the most visited website devoted to Bible health & non-branded essential oil education in the world.
We talk all about love, life, family and getting through challenges in this interview.
Eric shares a very personal story about how he was dumbfounded by the way he and his wife were treated in the documentary ‘Unwell’ and how they were blatantly sold the idea under false pretences and then taken out of context, which caused a multitude of repercussions that hurt beyond belief both personally and professionally. The negative press especially was scary.
Eric opens up about how he has been labelled a ‘Covid 19 Truther’, how he was de-platformed on all networks and how he has come through this hideous challenge and place of grief with courage, growth and acceptance. He has called it a lesson in humanity and humility.
He talks about grief, the revelation of us all grieving our past lifestyle, what was, what we used to be able to do, it could be loss of jobs, connection and a multitude of other things. Here are the 5 stages of grief he mentions:
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depression
Acceptance
With four gorgeous children at the time of this interview, Dr Z’s wife Sabrina is about to give birth to their fifth child. I just want to take a moment to wish them all the best.
Eric is super caring, he is a huge family man and someone who is extremely passionate about using plants and essential oils, being mindful of eating real food, getting daily movement and intentionally creating a happy environment.
Here are Dr Z’s top 10 self-love tips:
Start the day right, do your sacred rituals first thing and before you look at your phone
Sit with prayer or meditation
Get outside and into nature
Use your essential oils in all ways
Use an Infrared Sauna if you can, or get in the sun for a few minutes a day
Exercise and be active with your family
Help others
Know what to stay away from
Use grace and peace, a sacred space to get through what you have to go through
Surround yourself with good people
