SLP 43: The Flow And Energy Of Money with Jodie Nolan
Tuesday Jan 26, 2021
Tuesday Jan 26, 2021
“One of the first things I like to focus on with people is to say, “Look, what energy are you giving to money and wealth?” Because if you are negative and you’re focusing on the negatives, which we sometimes tend to do naturally, then that’s just going to bring in more of that same emotion. It’s very hard to flip that then and to focus on the positives. So every single person I know who has high net wealth, they don’t even give money an energy, they don’t actually even think about it. It’s a transactional thing for them. Are we able to do it? Do the figures stack up, yes or no? If it does we do it, if it doesn’t, we don’t. And it’s just that simple for them. And then it becomes a flow for them quite easily.” Jodie Nolan
I am super excited to bring to you a topic we don’t delve into that often. The idea that we can create a certain energy around money is quite unique. And of course, based on your level of interest, education, understanding, upbringing and experience will determine how that energy flows. Jodie Nolan is one of Australia’s most admired and respected financial advisors and best selling author. She has been on the top of the money mountain and on the brink of bankruptcy and in this interview shows how a positive mindset and willingness to get curious, real and raw around creating wealth is your secret weapon.
Jodie is an inspirational teacher who draws on the significant industry experience she has gained over the past 20 years to provide a unique and inspiring perspective on financial education. Jodie is not your typical educator or motivator. She endears herself by sharing her compelling story – a story of one individual’s courage to face adversity and go back to the financial basics to turn her situation around.
Losing millions in the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, Jodie shows how restoring your financial health can be done, she is walking the talk! She talks candidly about how it was hard not to be added and pissed off, how she felt shattered for everyone around her and given she was a newborn mother she also felt robbed of that joy. Jodie talks about the grieving process when we lose money.
It appears easy to preach the road to success when you have known few failures, however, Jodie shares how she built her wealth, how it was lost and most importantly, how she is building it back again! It’s about having an attitude of gratitude.
Jodie believes that nothing is infallible when it comes to financial matters, no fool-proof financial strategy or ‘safest’ way to make money. She firmly believes it is a combination of factors that shape your financial success and she shares them with us in a heartfelt, inspiring way.
With extensive experience in major financial firms and institutional banks, and her own personal experiences with financial ups and downs, Jodie lives and breathes finance – she is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable and has an uncanny knack for explaining even the most complex of financial terms and jargon into a way everyone can relate and understand.
One of the key components of wealth and happiness is having a why, a when and then the power to reverse engineer the process to meet those goals. She believes money has an energy of its own. And even more important, with awareness, is an ability to become a wonderful change agent.
Passing on crucial information and strategies for individuals and small business owners – especially the stuff that should have been taught in school but wasn’t. Jodie co-authored a best-selling book ‘Read My Lips’ and then went onto publishing ‘Surviving the Storm’ in 2011.
Jodie says there are three things that keep us awake at night:
Health
Money
Relationships
None of these three things are taught at school. We have to learn them all at home.
Jodie is a contributing columnist and ‘expert panel’ for numerous financial publications and believes the key to Australia’s Financial Literacy issues and people’s ability to achieve results, involves being adequately educated and she has completed a Thesis on this subject in her Masters of Business (Applied Finance) through Queensland University of Technology.
Establishing her own financial advice and education firm EQUIS Group Wealth Management to take clients from education through to planning and subsequent action on the recommended strategies, to create long-term wealth.
We talk digital and crypto-currencies and bitcoin. And we discuss whether or not you are willing to be a change agent and be different to those who follow mainstream media. Jodie is super passionate about getting to the root cause of poverty and of course how to change that to creating a powerful root cause for wealth. Money takes time, get real with where you are at, no need for the embarrassment it’s all perspective and learning.
Jodie lives on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland with her two beautiful children and in her spare time loves to research global economics and subsequently writes for Your Trading Edge Magazine, Australia’s premier trading & investment magazine as their Expert Geopolitical Commentator.
She suggests listening to TED talks, read biographies and learn through other peoples journeys. Learn how to react with grace and recover well. Remember there are more millionaires made in a downturn then there is in an upturn of economy.
One of Jodie’s favourite quotes is from Nelson Mandela
“It always seems impossible until it’s done.”
Her final message is to have hope. Look at where you are right now, this is a growth thing, a journey, a process. Hold hope in your heart, don’t give money a negative energy. Be grateful. Take small steps and the ripple effect will be huge. Become conscious, it is profound when you realise how wealth and money has an energy that is good for you.

SLP 42: Self Love Quicky – The 4 Agreements
Thursday Jan 21, 2021
Thursday Jan 21, 2021
This is one of my most favourite self-help and personal growth books written by Don Miguel Ruiz, a Mexican author, whose unique writings are based on ancient Toltec wisdom. This book is for people who are interested in ancient teachings and self-enlightenment and I have decided to share why it is a book I reference in many of my speaking opportunities and books I have written. It is simple yet profound.
Ruiz actually trained to be a Surgeon and after practising medicine for a few years his life took a change after a near-fatal car accident. This incident made him look at his life closely and made him realise he wanted more than success or money or climbing any medical ladder.
Ruiz moved to the US and studied under a shaman. He was particularly interested in the human mind from a scientific as well as a spiritual spoint of view. He published The Four Agreements in 1997.
This amazing little book stayed a New York Times bestseller for more than a decade, and he has written several other bestselling books including The Mastery of Love, The Voice of Knowledge, and Prayers. He has also collaborated with his son, Don Jose Ruiz, to write The Fifth Agreement, which is another New York Times bestseller.
The Four Agreements has sold around 7.2 million copies in the US alone. Ruiz has written this book using Toltec wisdom (and a healthy dose of common sense) to show that we should strive towards personal freedom from the restraints that society – and our own minds – place upon us.
Depending on our upbringing, circumstances, values, beliefs, teachers, parents and understandings we learn how we are meant to behave and learn what we or society deems as normal. Very rarely we question these beliefs unless we rebelled or had an experience that changed our whole view point.
The Four Agreements shows us that there is a soulful way of living, a way that it doesn’t matter what our past is, what we believe or what we think society wants. By breaking free from the societal structures and expectations, we can make new agreements for ourselves.
1 – The First Agreement – Be impeccable with your word. And never use it against yourself or others. Speak with integrity and say only what you mean. Avoid using the word you speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Your words transform the way you think, and affect the opinions of others, so choose them wisely.
2 – The Second Agreement – Don’t take things personally. Nothing others do is because of you. When people are rude to us, it can often stay in our mind for too long, and we constantly repeat the words in our heads. When you take things personally, you begin inadvertently start worrying about what it means, sometimes making it yours, even if it had nothing to do with you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality. When you become immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering. You don’t need to have other people’s acceptance, and nothing they say will hurt you. Everyone looks at the world from a different viewpoint, and you should also recognize your own perspective in this.
3 – The Third Agreement – Don’t make assumptions. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want instead of making assumptions. We often jump to conclusions and make assumptions that are wildly wrong. If you send a text to a friend, and they don’t reply, you would perhaps make the assumption that they were mad at you, or ignoring you, or too busy for you, or don’t care about you… without any real evidence. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. We also make assumptions about ourselves, and it will do us better if we replace assumptions with questions instead. This can be difficult, but it’s the only way to get the answers you need.
4 – The Fourth Agreement – Always do your best. This agreement is to always do your best, even if your best constantly changes. It can change from moment to moment, it will be different if you are well and healthy as opposed to exhausted and emotionally spent. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret. This final agreement will help you to increase the power of the other agreements, while freeing yourself from old patterns.
I cannot recommend getting this book enough. You can get it through Amazon or Booktopia or listening to it on Audible.

SLP 41: Stand In Certainty with Jennifer Jefferies
Tuesday Jan 19, 2021
Tuesday Jan 19, 2021
“At the end of three weeks, I was more well than I had been in my adult body. And I had to know how they did it. So I went, ‘That’s it!’ So I walked away from an 11-year relationship and just walked away from so much stuff and went ‘I have to get my shit together!’ And I went back to school and studied. I put all my specialty in how day to day life stress compounds and taxes our health. So the emotional in the physical body, and particularly adrenal health because in Chinese Medicine as you know your adrenals are at the core of your being, it’s where your chi lives. And when you run out of chi – you die.” Jennifer Jefferies
Jennifer Jefferies is The Present Day Wise Woman, one of Australia’s most respected authors and speakers in the area of health and wellbeing, working closely with some of the world’s most well-known brands to restore work-life balance and minimise illness and burnout. And this week I get to interview this (in her words), tree-hugging, daggy dyke where she shares the purpose of life isn’t just to live but to thrive and to stand in the certainty of your true self.
She was thrown out of the army for being gay which not only broke her heart but in that moment, decided no one will ever hold anything over her ever again. She will always express herself openly and encourages everyone that we can say ‘I am allowed to be ME’.
Experiencing corporate burnout in her 20’s, eventually, a car accident stopped her in her tracks and she knew she could not go back to the way she had been living and working. It was through natural therapies that she found her health again, and after just three weeks knew she was heading in the right direction. She was so inspired Jennifer went back to school to study to be a naturopath and aromatherapist.
Jennifer has put her specialty into how “day to day” life stressors impact our physical health. Showing up with symptoms like crappy energy, sleep, moods, weight, aches and pains and hormone issues etc. So many of our day to day “ails” are lifestyle stress-related.
Turning away from her pharmaceutical management career, and becoming sober, Jennifer became a passionate naturopath, and for more than 25 years has helped countless individuals improve their lives so they can live their dreams, enjoy life and give back.
Subscribing to the philosophy that wealth and success mean nothing without your health, Jennifer authored the 7 Steps to Sanity and thirteen other health-related titles, sharing practical real-life strategies to help teams and individuals improve their health, wellbeing and productivity by finding balance in their lives.
Known for her fun, humorous, no-nonsense approach to healthy living, and her proven ability to motivate others to make positive changes to their lives both inside and outside the workplace, Jennifer is a highly sought after presenter, speaking to corporations in more than a dozen countries including Australia, USA, New Zealand and South-East Asia.
Determined to leave the world a better place, Jennifer has also established The Q Foundation to give health, hope and happiness to children in poverty-stricken countries through providing education, health care, accommodation and welfare services.
Self-described as a psychedelic, peace and brown rice loving hippie and a passionate, adventurous traveller, when Jennifer isn’t writing or speaking, she is working towards her goal of owning a complete set of Lonely Planet books, purchasing them only once she has travelled to each place.
You are going to love this interview, Jen is open, raw, funny and downright awesome.
She appreciates how good we are at guilt-tripping ourselves into stress mode. But knowing that we are emotional beings how much this affects our physical welfare is very much underestimated.
Read The 4 Agreements here.
Jen believes self-love is doing what lifts your vibe. Love ourselves first. Stand in certainty. Do cool shit on this planet. Be that vibe.
There is no magic answer. Be the inspiration. Give life a crack from the heart.

SLP 40: Self Love Quicky on Sandalwood
Thursday Jan 14, 2021
Thursday Jan 14, 2021
This week we talk briefly about one of my most favourite essential oils – Sandalwood. One of the most amazing oils for being grounded and feeling supported. Excellent in skincare, for skin issues and for healthy hair Sandalwood is a must-have in every home. It is known to instil an amazing sense of calm, stop the internal chatter that can sabotage your dreams and bring a feeling of reassurance and strength. You will not want to be without this very precious and special oil.
Santalum S. spitacum is sandalwood native to Western Australia whereas the more common Santalum album is native to India. This aromatic tree is a fairly small evergreen that can grow to a height of around 3-8 metres, unlike the album variety which can grow up to 12-15 metres high.
The fascinating thing about all sandalwood is that they are considered hemiparasitic which means in order to survive, their roots must be able to reach other trees so they can gain the nutrients required to grow. The good news is this tree does not kill its host in the process.
The oil is obtained from the heartwood of the tree which is chopped and chipped for distillation. It must be over 30 years old before it is cultivated.
Sadly the Indian album variety was considered in a critical state due to the illegal exploitation of this precious oil and it is reported that there are no mature trees left in the forest areas due to this but also to spike disease which has claimed a lot of the producing trees.
The Australian sandalwood is sustainably managed by the Department of Parks and Wildlife which sets many boundaries around the harvest of this oil including the amount of green wood and dead wood used.
For hundreds of years, sandalwood has been used for religious and sacred ceremonies such as embalming processes and in reverence to respected Gods. It has always been renowned for its anti-infection qualities and ability to treat the mind and body as one.
Sandalwood is used a lot in Ayurvedic medicine and is well known for its healing abilities when it comes to coughs, colds, bronchial infections, fever, urinary tract infections and liver and gall bladder conditions. Used with clary sage it is excellent for treating sore throats.
It is also known to be a wonderful expectorant especially with oils like cedarwood, lavender and eucalyptus and to help relieve inflammation and is a wonderful muscle relaxant with oils like lavender, German chamomile and grapefruit.
Sandalwood acts as an astringent to help heal skin irritations and has an anti-inflammatory effect making it an ideal choice for conditions such as eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis. It is a wonderful addition in skincare as it has a cooling and moisturizing effect and is especially supportive of healing dry skin.
If you would like less feelings of anger, depression, rigidity and nervousness and more feelings of acceptance, balance, calm, confidence, sensuality and warmth then sandalwood is your perfect choice.
Energetically sandalwood is known to help instil a deep sense of calm and quieten internal mental chatter. It has been used for many generations in meditation and aggression and irritation behaviour needs to be calmed.
This beautiful oil is an ideal choice before any healing work. It is grounding, reassuring, stabilizing and strengthening. And because of all of this, you can see why sandalwood is considered one of the most extraordinary gifts to the aromatic world.
You can get some amazing organic Twenty8 Australian Sandalwood when you click here and don’t forget your discount code below.

SLP 39: Be Brave, Be You with Fiona Crawley
Tuesday Jan 12, 2021
Tuesday Jan 12, 2021
“In this modern era, there are so many distractions. You pick up your phone to do one thing and the next minute you’re scrolling through Facebook for twenty minutes and you haven’t even done the thing you went to do. I think distractions are a huge part of our society at the moment so if you don’t have the purpose, that goal, that vision, whatever it is then I think it’s easier to just get distracted and float through life and go this way and then go that way and find that you’re not doing the things that you want to do and you’re not achieving the things you want to achieve. I hear so many people say ‘I’m living this life but I don’t want to live it. It’s not what I planned for.’ So how did you get there? And how do you get out of it? You need to have a vision or you need to have something clear in your mind that you want to achieve so that you can get yourself out of it.” Fiona Crawley
This is a phenomenal interview about what it means to set a goal, have a plan and then live life out loud. Beautiful Fiona Crawley, former Olympian and Commonwealth Games gold medal winner takes a deep dive conversation into what it means to achieve whatever it is you set your heart on without distractions so you can live life your way with greater purpose and meaning. Fiona and her young family took a brave step and sold all their possessions to live full-time in a bus, and travel around Australia.
Fiona played on the Australian hockey team, The Hockeyroos, for 6 years. She was selected for the Beijing Olympics but sadly was injured in a practice match in Beijing, days before the Olympic Games started. This meant she missed out on playing at the Olympics. She recovered from the emotional and physical disappointment and returned to the team, winning a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
After retiring from hockey Fiona took up endurance events. She has completed 3 Ironman Triathlons, multiple 100km ultra-marathons and a 100mile ultra-marathon.
As you will discover in this interview Fiona talks about how she managed the highs and lows of being high-performance sportswomen. She talks about her love for learning especially from sporting disappointments and then how she transitioned from professional athlete to being a wife and mum.
It was in 2019 when Fiona and her husband Adam sold everything to live full time in a bus, travelling Australia.
What you will love in this interview is how Fiona has created a new life with no time frame and has truly learned to be more easy-going, the importance of slowing down and knowing how to go with the flow. She shares her insights from living in a tiny home with a minimalist lifestyle and what the real meaning of life is around family and the special connections she makes with people on the road and in her online communities.
She shares how she and her husband Adam made the decision to go off the grid and what they did to make that become a reality with their two small children Lincoln and Sage. She says it costs way less than people think and yet the rewards are totally immeasurable. With a Thermomix and Coffee Machine Fiona says life is really actually quite perfect. They spend most days at the beach and in nature and as you will learn are living the life many would only ever imagine.
Her experiences as a professional and international athlete draw remarkable analogies in life. She says there is always more inside of you than you think and you can do more than you can ever imagine. Fiona shares her daily self-care rituals and what self-love means to her. She believes one of the biggest problems for most people not achieving what they want is the number of distractions out there in the world.
To achieve anything you need a goal, a vision and a purpose.
She says some of her biggest lessons she has take so far is the importance of celebrating the small wins, enjoying the simple pleasures in life and making yourself a priority no matter where you are living. Going for a run herself first thing in the morning, doing her body boost, using her oils and being present are all things that have made her more aware and in touch.
Beautiful Fiona has done a number of my own programs and in particular, is currently enjoying the Self Love & Wellness Mentorship Program where she feels has created the connection and meaning she has needed whilst on the road. It’s about women coming together and learning.
Her words for 2021 is to ‘Be Present’. Enjoy each moment. Give energy and love and attention in the moment, and the rest will sort itself out.
Fiona says that it is ok to be different and to give yourself permission to be different.
Her final message would be to BE BRAVE, BE YOU!
Her favourite quote is:
“If you want something you have never had before, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.”

SLP 38: Self Love Quicky – Pope Francis New Year Speech
Thursday Jan 07, 2021

What a treat to share with you the speech given by Pope Francis for the New Year. His message is simple yet beautiful, it is deep and profound and I thought I would share it with you this week as it has meant a lot to me personally.
You can have flaws, be anxious, and even be angry, but do not forget that your life is the greatest enterprise in the world. Only you can stop it from going bust.
Many appreciate you, admire you and love you.
Remember that to be happy is not to have a sky without a storm, a road without accidents, work without fatigue, relationships without disappointments.
To be happy is to find strength in forgiveness, hope in battles, security in the stage of fear, love in discord.
It is not only to enjoy the smile but also to reflect on the sadness. It is not only to celebrate the successes but to learn lessons from the failures. It is not only to feel happy with the applause but to be happy in anonymity.
Being happy is not a fatality of destiny, but an achievement for those who can travel within themselves.
To be happy is to stop feeling like a victim and become your destiny’s author. It is to cross deserts, yet to be able to find an oasis in the depths of our soul.
It is to thank God for every morning, for the miracle of life.
Being happy is not being afraid of your own feelings. It’s to be able to talk about you. It is having the courage to hear a “no”. It is confidence in the face of criticism, even when unjustified. It is to kiss your children, pamper your parents, to live poetic moments with friends, even when they hurt us.
To be happy is to let live the creature that lives in each of us, free, joyful and simple.
It is to have the maturity to be able to say: “I made mistakes”. It is to have the courage to say “I am sorry”. It is to have the sensitivity to say, “I need you”. It is to have the ability to say “I love you”.
May your life become a garden of opportunities for happiness … That in spring may it be a lover of joy. In winter a lover of wisdom. And when you make a mistake, start all over again. For only then will you be in love with life.
You will find that to be happy is not to have a perfect life.
But use the tears to irrigate tolerance. Use your losses to train patience. Use your mistakes to sculptor serenity. Use pain to plaster pleasure. Use obstacles to open windows of intelligence.
Never give up …. Never give up on people who love you.
Never give up on happiness, for life is an incredible show.
(Pope Francis).
Happy new year!
Sadly we woke to the news on New Years Day that one of my children’s dearest friends was tragically killed in a hit and run incident which has completely shattered all of our hearts especially his parents. So in light of this and in honour of dear Henry I share with you these wise words. Take care, be kind.

SLP 37: Your Perception May Not Be My Reality with Paul Eliseo
Tuesday Jan 05, 2021
Tuesday Jan 05, 2021
“Anything that’s happening outside of you can be taken a million different ways. So 2020 happened and for a lot of people it brought up some things and it challenged them but for other people, it gave them growth opportunities and they saw all the possibilities in the chaos. So our nervous system is designed to impose order on chaos and literally if you saw reality as it was it would be in complete order but it’s actually in absolute chaos because there’s so many things happening that you cannot perceive it all at once. So our nervous system filters it down and takes that stream of information and makes it something we think is our coherent reality.” Paul Eliseo
Get ready to go on a deep dive conversation into what it means to be human in this week’s podcast with the incredible Paul Eliseo. I truly love this amazing soul and the way he thinks. We talk about how most people think the world is happening to them, for them, where in fact it is happening as them. Depending on our upbringing, filtering systems, meta programs, personality, thought processes, values and beliefs will depend on how we view the world. And there is not one person who sees or experiences the world the same way you do and vice versa. This makes for a very interesting, often conflicting world.
Paul talks about how there is no one reality, there are just all different versions of reality, we are co-creating our own reality.
Having goals and having a vision and something to move towards is really important. Because when you know what that is, then you can start to live in alignment with it. But a lot of people are basically living life as if they are on a dodgem car. When you get on that car, there’s no real goal. You get knocked in by other people, you knock into other people until your time is up. And you either have fun or get upset and that’s it.
That’s how a lot of people live life. They get knocked off track. They focus on bumping into other people and getting revenge, but they don’t really have a clear destination or way to win or get what they want.
Having goals is like on getting on a train track. You set a goal of where you want to get to, you know where you’re going and when you want to get there. And sometimes there are stops along the way. And if you get there and it’s not where you want to go, you then find somewhere else you want to go but it’s all about working out your destination and going on a journey to get there.
If you are not in alignment with that goal it is simply a fantasy.
When there is an external event we each have an emotional lens – we feel good or bad. How you interpret it, how you process it and see it is all happening at an unconscious level.
Your outside world occurs as you see it based on your inside world. And we either move towards pleasure or away from pain.
Paul shares his own story and how he took what could be perceived as a rather tough upbringing, and learned how to master his thoughts, values and beliefs and created a new reality which literally changed his life.
He says people create issues around weight, money, health, career and relationships and then live their lives according to the way they perceive it to be based on their values. Many do not realise the past does not have to become the future. You can evolve by choice.
A coach or mentor can help you to reclaim energy, grow up and mature so that you do not get triggered or halted by your past beliefs. You then get to invest in creating and pre-creating – not recreating.
And yes – it is that easy!
If you think it is hard and you cannot do it, you won’t. But if you believe you can and live your life in alignment with your values then anything is possible.
There are 3 types of people when it comes to change.
Not ready
Continue as they are
Take action
Those that take action know it is a process and continual learning. Life will give you tests for each level of evolvement. And as you mature and grow you get better levels and qualities of problems. You get to evolve through choice not chance and be a conscious creator.
No matter what has happened in your life, or happened to you, each day no matter what you get a choice. Remember people will be who you need them to be so you can see what you need to see. We often view people based on what we see from our past. And yet we each have the potential to allow them to show up in a completely different way, at a whole new level when we consciously take the time to learn and grow from our experiences. Know that life is echoing back at you.
But it takes energy, commitment and a desire to want to learn and grow.
Paul talks extensively about hypnotherapy and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) which are phenomenal tools to help you understand the origin of your thoughts and programming and how to create the life you dream of.
He mentions how we each go on our own hero’s journey. Here is a link to watch a video explaining the Hero’s Journey according to Joesph Campbell you can watch it here. Every person’s journey is unique and you can become the hero in your own journey. It’s never too late to go to a new level.
Paul explains how to show up for 2021 if you are wanting to create new possibilities.

SLP 36: Self Love Quicky – Make Health Your Greatest Focus for 2021
Thursday Dec 31, 2020
Thursday Dec 31, 2020
In this week’s Quicky, and seeing how it is New Year’s Eve, I want to share with you some of my tips on how to make health your greatest asset and focus for 2021. It has been a challenging year indeed. There is no doubt 2020 has humbled us all and maybe for the first time as a whole it has created space for honest reflection, a chance to look in the mirror and see what we can do better and how we can support one another to be more happy and healthy. Here’s what I think might help each of us to be our best selves for a brand new year.
Some would say this has been the worst year of their lives, and you don’t have to go far to hear some of the hideous and tragic challenges so many have endured.
Many say they let good routines change to their health’s detriment, they gained weight and let their health priorities go.
Others would say it has been a remarkable year, a year of magic, a chance to re-set, regroup and rethink what truly matters.
Some got focused, created a home gym, lost weight even found a new love of home cooking.
Whatever side of the fence, no matter how you choose to view it, life has changed for everyone this year, and it will continue to challenge us on all levels until our ‘new normal’ resides.
According to the Black Dog Institute, many Australians and New Zealanders have been impacted by fear, anxiety and panic about coronavirus (COVID-19). Common consequences include depression, anger, confusion and uncertainty, and financial stress, with estimates of between 25% to 33% of the community experiencing high levels of worry and anxiety.
It’s understandable. No one really knows our immediate future.
But what we do know is continued worry and anxiety, bad habits and not focusing on our health is not sustainable. At some point, our mind and body will say enough, and it is well documented that what we think and do can indeed affect the way we all live our lives.
So, what’s the answer? How do we rise through such uncertainty? What can we do individually and as a community?
I really do not have the answers but I when I think logically and with common sense, there seems to be a number of simple things we can do that can make a difference in our homes and therefore create a positive ripple effect into our community.
Perhaps we now have a once in a generation opportunity that we can be greater than the sum of our parts.
And it starts with our health.
Our energy, mental clarity and ability to get through all challenges are deeply rooted in our daily healthy habits and rituals and of course our values.
We may not feel it or indeed want to acknowledge it but here is an opportunity to look for the gifts. Every time you feel challenged, look for a new perspective and ask yourself, ‘What is a more useful thought or action I could take?’ It could be as simple as switching off the news and reading something uplifting or getting outdoors and focus on one beautiful thing you see, smell, hear or feel. Be grateful for what is, not what isn’t.
The powerful effects of meditation are renowned but for many making time to sit and meditate for hours on end is impossible. Instead get really present and mindful of the moment you are in. If chopping up vegetables for dinner be mindful of the farmer who grew them and the nourishment they provide. Create many daily micro-moments of mindfulness as they are as effective as a longer meditation session.
Life is busy, there are many distractions to steer us away from focusing on our health and push us into fight or flight (stress) mode. Taking long deep breaths regularly stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system and enhances your ability to rest and digest (relax). Add the potent healing qualities of essential oils and you enhance the power of breath tenfold.
Let’s be honest where we live down under is one of the most magical places on the planet. Swim, jog, dance, gym, yoga, pilates, whatever you choose, just do it, move your body. No more excuses. If the only thing you commit to is to walk for 10-30 minutes a day and drink in your amazing surroundings, then you are a master mover.
What you place into and onto your body affects your health so take inventory of what you are eating and using. Choose real whole foods as close to nature as possible and drop packaged foods. Buy from your local farmer’s markets. Place natural products on your skin, there are so many amazing local natural brands. Notice what you are purchasing and avoid foods and skincare with questionable ingredients and additives. I am super proud of my business Twenty8 Essentials so if you’re looking for high-quality natural products then head to www.twenty8.com
You’ve heard it already but every time you buy from a local business, that owner is doing the biggest happy dance. Buying products that serve your health is the greatest gift. And it is a beautiful way to boost the state of health for all business owners who have done everything that can to ride 2020.
We may not be able to change what is happening on this planet right now or do anything about the decisions governments make, but we can do the best we possibly can. You do not have to do everything all at once to be the healthiest version of you, do what you can, improve each day and be gentle on yourself.
And finally, if you are still not sure what to do to get through this challenging year, if you do not know who to be or what you can offer, then focus on being the healthiest happiest version of you. Serve others. Offer a helping hand where you can. And most of all take care and be kind.

SLP 35: Be Your Own Chameleon with Tamara Wrigley
Tuesday Dec 29, 2020
Tuesday Dec 29, 2020
“I think one of my biggest things I’ve learned over the last 1-2 years, in fact, more this year is that (a good friend of ours Genine Howard has taught me is), “I’m not available!” I’m not available for this, I’m not available for that. That has been my biggest I guess mantra this year and that is choosing what I am available for and what I’m not available for. And actually owning that decision and not feeling guilty about it, not feeling remorse, not having anxiety about it, not worrying about what are my friends going to think, what are my family going to think? It’s just making that decision and owning it and being available for what you want to be available for and having the ‘balls’ to go, I’m not available for that. I’m not available for the toxic people, I’m not available for the negativity, I’m not available for whatever it is, that you’re not available for, own it and don’t be afraid and don’t get anxious about owning your decisions.” Tamara Wrigley
In this week’s podcast, I am super excited to introduce you to the amazing Tamara Wrigley who throughout her life has learned the importance of knowing how to adapt and change and become her own kind of chameleon to succeed. Tam shares how you get to choose who you want to be just as she has mastered in her careers going from a multi-million dollar real estate business owner to being a television presenter, fashionista and renovation queen. All perfect tips as we head into a brand new year!
By the age of 30 Tam was a multi-millionaire with a healthy property portfolio of over 30 properties and became a very well respected businesswoman. By 2013, Tam had developed her real estate credentials from small to large portfolios, managing property management divisions, training staff and developing new offices and managing over 20 staff. On the back of winning Sunshine Coast Corporate Business Woman of the Year, and having felt like she had achieved her goals, it was during this time she decided to reflect back on her dream to become a Television personality.
Tamara is the host of the smash hit The Wine O’Clock Show with over 130,000 viewers each week, she is also the host of iStyle TV and is the host of her 3rd TV series called Beyond Beautiful. Aptly titled ‘Beyond Beautiful’ – it’s the ‘beyond’ aspect that makes this so special. Tam appreciates we are constantly surrounded by images and conversations of people’s success and it can leave us feeling less, unaware we are comparing our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s show reel. Beyond Beautiful gives audiences the raw, insightful, honest and real stories behind some truly wonderful, strong and successful people.
But it hasn’t always been easy sailing for Tamara as in 2014 she had a significant health scare which she shares openly in this podcast and highly recommends anyone with symptoms of endometriosis that you insist on getting a laparoscopy to investigate the seriousness of it as it easy to misdiagnose and not get picked up on. Her message is simple, your body is NOT meant to be in pain. Get it checked if you are.
Tamara also talks about the setbacks and the relentless amount of work it takes to succeed, that it does not just happen overnight, that you must be willing to do what it takes to get the success you desire.
She believes one of the most important things you could do to succeed is to surround yourself with the right people. Don’t talk about things until they are done. Keep things to yourself until you are ready to share so that others do not pull you down. She knows women tend to put themselves to the bottom of the list but to remember you are just as important, if not more, than the job or your work or getting the car serviced! And do not forget the 24-hour rule. If you are unsure, let something sit for 24 hours before you make a decision or act.
Tamara has been on nearly all of the Retreats I have held including India, NZ, Paris and Provence and what she loves most about them is the connection, the people who are attracted to these Retreats, the energy and the beautiful learnings. She loves how everyone is on the same wavelength, the same path and whilst the scenery and attractions are amazing it is the workshops and connections that have meant the most to her.
Her favourite mantra/quote is the 7 P’s:
Prior Pre Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance!
Her New Years tip to you as we head into 2021 is to be realistic, don’t set yourself up to fail or fall, try not to be unreasonable with yourself and set little goals so you know you have the ability to succeed every day.

SLP 34: Self Love Quicky – Keep Calm It’s Christmas
Thursday Dec 24, 2020
Thursday Dec 24, 2020
It’s meant to be a time of joy, but we all know that for many this time of year can also be quite stressful, lonely or disappointing.
Given the year we have had we also have many families separated or unable to get to loved ones. There has been a lot of loss this year and some are even saying it doesn’t even feel like Christmas. But let’s keep calm and carry on regardless!
In this week’s quicky I share just a few tips on how to reduce the stress and triggers so you get to enjoy this festive season as much as possible.
Finances can be stretched at this time of year, many of us have been struck with financial challenge this year so try not to put any more pressure on yourself than is necessary. This year I decided to make Beetroot Chutney and a gluten-free Christmas Cake for gifts, and I have to be honest they have been so well received. If you are on the Twenty8 database you would have received my free Festive Treats eBook.
Make sure you set realistic expectations, it might not be the best time of year for you, or you may experience feelings of anxiety or depression or stress. Be kind to yourself and don’t put the bar so high.
Let’s always remember that even if there are any family tensions that our beautiful children come first. They remind us of the true meaning of Christmas and what it means to hang, laugh, give your time and smile. Always remember to enable their happiness.
There is nothing quite like alcohol to make or break a function. It might be tempting to indulge a little but be mindful if you are using alcohol to relieve stress or cope with a situation. We all know what comes out of people’s mouths when drinking may not always be intended as badly as it sounds or received in the way it was said.
If you know you have members of your family or friends who cause a little stress be incredibly mindful of not getting into arguments or winding people up! Stick to being emotionally intelligent and look out for the two words mentioned below to help diffuse any tension or comments.
This is also a time of year to manage loneliness. Even if you are separated from loved ones try not to sit there and wait for people to acknowledge you. Reach out and connect with as many people as you can. Make time for a house-party (phone app) call or make time on zoom, skype or facetime.
You can also volunteer and lend a hand to a local shelter or charity to stay connected. There is something quite special about positively contributing to others in need at this time of year.
Look out for community events going on in your area, whether it is market days or Christmas carols these become beautiful ways to connect with others.
Make sure you plan your day, work out what you would like to do and see if others feel as enrolled and excited to do the same. And if they don’t then don’t take it personally, make yourself available to a charity instead.
Keep as healthy as possible during this Christmas break. Whilst it is easy to overindulge and eat foods you normally wouldn’t try, or eat as much of, to be mindful to not put yourself into a food coma! Every single food you put in your mouth, every product you place on your body has a metrabolic reaction. Take care of your precious vehicle.
Use your essential oils. There is nothing more effective than setting a mood and space with your diffuser and 100% pure essential oils. I personally love oils of frankincense, myrrh, pine and orange, or our Twenty8 Festive Blend with oils of clove, cinnamon and orange. You might even enjoy two of my faves at the moment which are lavender and sage.
And finally… two words that might help you not be triggered or stressed by other people’s stress and comments.
‘That’s interesting!’
That’s right… when someone says anything that may trigger you or feel annoying, maybe diffuse it by just realising how interesting it is that other people have a different view point. It actually is fascinating what some say and do so go with it, and without facetiousness or condescending tone just reply with a ‘Wow, that’s interesting!’
And fingers and toes crossed the tension melts away and you move on to better more positive things!
Merry Christmas you gorgeous soul, I have to say I have loved presenting the Self Love Podcast to you and am truly excited about all that is to come. Big hugs to you and your precious friends and family.
Lots of love
Kim xx

SLP 33: It’s Good To Dream Big with Danny Morrison
Tuesday Dec 22, 2020
Tuesday Dec 22, 2020
“However that looks for you, or however that is, male or female, whatever, but someone that you can listen to that’s been on that pathway of discovery and also I think for yourself, finding some self-awareness and working on oneself to realise… man, we’re fallible, we make mistakes. But as long as you can learn from those and accept that we make mistakes or have been wrong or stupid or silly, you’ve just got to somehow find a way that you feel good about yourself again and love yourself again.” Danny Morrison
What an absolute treat to interview my very own husband Danny Morrison this week and share with you his incredible story.
Danny was considered too short to be a fast bowler but he had a huge dream to play cricket for NZ and open the bowling with Sir Richard Hadlee. He not only fulfilled that dream but went on to have an amazing career playing for NZ for ten years and became NZ’s first player to take a one-day hattrick.
But it wasn’t all positive and easy. Danny had serious injuries he had to deal with, he had to face the physical and mental pressures of being an elite athlete and had to learn to re-create himself at the end of his sporting career.
Danny shares openly how his deputy principal Murray Deaker and his mother Sandi Morrison were the two massive supporters of his dream and played a big part in supporting him through the challenging times too. Both always told him it’s great to dream big.
Danny also talks about his beautiful sister Zara and how he lost her to suicide in 2005. He shares how he went to a dark place himself and really questioned what it was all about. He did not know what it all meant until he hit his own rock bottom and had to make a decision to pull himself up, over and through the demons he had to face.
He shares his strategies on how he did this and how he believes we should never take for granted that health is your greatest asset.
Danny played cricket for NZ from 1987-1997. He took 160 Test wickets and 125 one day wickets. He is known now for his dramatic and theatrical television commentating when Twenty-20 exploded onto the scene and is absolutely adored throughout the sub-continent commuities.
It is a privilege to be married to this man, and I am thrilled to be able to share with you our darkest times which have become the catalyst to create our happiest times. We both do not take this life we have together for granted.
I am also honoured that he is a partner in our Twenty8 Essential Oils and Skincare business.
