SLP 67: Expand Your Light with Sarah Louise

“There’s always going to be the mother that stands in the kitchen. And when she’s cooking the toast for the family for breakfast and one piece of toast gets burnt and she goes, ‘Oh it’s ok, I’ll have that one.’ And I’m like oh my goodness that’s me. You know that was me. And I realised at that point that I was teaching my children, my boys, that that’s where a woman sits. I was teaching my daughter that’s where she sits in the family. I was putting myself really over here… for what? It changed instantly for me. And the burnt piece of toast went in the bin. Nobody needed it. Because I am the leader and I believe, and I know some will criticise this, but I believe that the feminine energy on the planet at the moment is super powerful. And I need to lead the way and show the way. And I’m not going to do that by putting myself at the back of the pile.” Sarah Louise
Sarah Louise is an Intuitive Soul Coach and I am honoured to share with you this beautiful conversation around the importance of taking time out to create space in your mind, to be in nature, go within and the importance of the practice of meditation. We dive into beautiful topics around the masculine and feminine energies, soul connections and how we can overcome our challenges and programming by going within. Get ready to lose yourself in this powerful conversation with this beauty.
Sarah has dedicated her life to helping others. She has worked for the past 25 years as a guide, life coach, speaker, healer and lightworker. She has studied a vast array of modalities with leading spiritual teachers around the world. Sarah believes everyone can live an incredibly happy life regardless of their past and their story and she is an incredible example of her words and her teachings. Sarah’s life has been far from a fairy tale but she understands that her past has been her evolution and she has a choice of what the future looks like.
Sarah shares her story in how she felt she was on a mission to help people through the chaos of life from when she was very young. She learned that there was no one she could rely on more than herself. She left school early and studied to be a beautician, nutrition and became a personal trainer. She did massage, reiki and healings all of which extended her intuitive skills further. Tapping into the powerful energy around her was quite simply her way of life and the only life she knew.
She talks openly in this podcast about a human being as ‘being human’. The importance of connecting to the in-side and being more aware of our own energy. To connect within we must let go of the physical. We are so conditioned and so deeply programmed, the mind is like a computer and we become very set in our ways. To become more open and aware we need the mind to be still and to connect at a much deeper level.
Contrary to popular belief, happiness does not come from our external world, it is way more an internal job. We are programmed to believe that it is external, that life feels better ‘out there’ but it is quite simply not true. If we give the internal world time and love and if we use nature and meditation to disconnect then we will find happiness more directly and more easily.
Sarah shares different ways to meditate in this podcast and inspires us all that to do the internal work that is needed more than ever.
We talk about the differences between masculine and feminine energy and the importance of honouring the unique qualities of both. The masculine is described as logical and thought-based (open-minded), the feminine is emotional and heart-based (open-hearted).
We discuss soul contracts, soul mates, the classroom of life, incredible teachers, triggers, lessons and blessings. And we talk about Sarah Louise’s interpretation of Covid, which she describes as a new age war and her thoughts about it from a soul level and what you can do to be a part of the healing.
She shares her love of good nutrition, her family and incredible work using our superpowers of intuition, intelligence, intention and integrity. She says true masters stay silent, they hold the truth and space. She inspires us to be the master of our own selves, to heal in our way and trust that we are exactly where we are meant to be… life is a blessing, a chance for healing and an opening.
Sarah Louise’s favourite quote at present is:
‘Life is always going to give you lemons and you have a choice to either become sour or make lemonade.’
Her final message is heartwarming, make sure you hear it and repeat it.

I have been incredibly blessed with a gift, the ability to make high vibration living easily accessible and incredibly achievable for everyone. You will finally be able to move beyond your stories and old limiting programmes to a life that’s thriving. So when you have had enough of surviving. Connect with me and l will take you there. I am an authentic soul coach. I am the real deal. No BS. A lightworker without too much of the Woo Woo weird stuff. SLP 66: Self Love Quicky – Super Woman Syndrome
Thursday Apr 15, 2021
Thursday Apr 15, 2021
Eat well. Exercise. Don’t get too fat. Don’t get too skinny. Take time out. Relax. Work hard. Play often. Forge a career. Get business savvy. Travel the world. Keep the house clean. Bake homemade goodies. Expand yourself. Learn something new. Be a good mother. Be a great wife. Make time for friends. Smile often. Frown less. Volunteer.
Let’s face it – as discussed in this week’s Self Love Quicky it’s a big call to be Super Woman! To maintain it all and do it well can cause sheer exhaustion with symptoms like headaches, muscular aches and pains, anxiety, depression, irritability, inability to concentrate, and mood swings, now medically recognised as side effects of ‘Super Woman Syndrome’ – a condition first named in the seventies. It might be a challenge to overcome, but it is possible to create a more respectful relationship with yourself by making self-care your priority.
As women struggle to balance multiple responsibilities, many wonder what happened to ‘having it all’? How has life got so busy there is little time left for ourselves?
The truth is that being happy, healthy and the best you can be is all about commitment – a lasting commitment to a healthy, balanced lifestyle made up of the hundreds of small but important choices you make every day. But the million-dollar question is: what is a healthy and balanced lifestyle in this sophisticated and fast-paced world? And how do you know if you really are making the best decisions about the way you live and what you do with your time?
At heart, we all want to be healthy, successful and happy with ourselves, but many of us feel overwhelmed by information overload. The world around us is becoming more complex, technical and processed and filled with many more choices.
I have heard women around the world asking for inspiration that will last a lifetime. They want a strategy for living with unbiased information they can rely upon when it comes to making everyday choices about business, their health and wellbeing and the welfare of their families. I am passionate about my career and my health, and this plea is close to my heart; after all, finding a healthy balance is a challenge I face in my life as a businesswoman, mother, wife and mentor.
Fortunately for us all, there is help. And if you break it down into manageable bits, it’s not that hard. In fact, I am here to help focus on beating the Super Woman Syndrome. Remember though, everyone’s experience of overload will be different, therefore the remedies will also vary. It is important to experiment and find the strategies and tools that work best for you. Maintaining balance is a lifetime process; it is a day-to-day journey of learning and gaining insight into how we can positively affect our health and relationships at work and in the home.
It’s all very good and well saying ‘choose to live at high-level wellness’ – it’s almost silly to suggest it! After all, we all want to live like that. The problem is, many people confuse ‘wellness’ with ‘living without illness’ rather than realising they have the power to live at an optimum level of health which positively affects every area of their life. So here are some tips to get you started or back on track on your journey. Maybe don’t try and achieve them all in one week; set yourself mini goals and work at implementing one of these strategies at a time into your life. The key then is to keep it going!
* Prioritise and Delegate More
The two biggest excuses I hear from women for not taking care of themselves are, not enough time or not enough money. In today’s busy world with such high financial and time pressures it is easy to think they are valid excuses. But I disagree.
It is not about time or money. I believe it is simply because you have not made yourself a priority. When was the last time you had a relaxation massage? If it was last week, congratulations! But it may have been months, even years since you had the pleasure. It may be that some of you are yet to enjoy that experience. If your reason for not having a massage recently is because you have not had enough time or money, is it really because you haven’t had the time or money, or is it that you don’t see this as a priority? Is it more a luxury than a necessity?
I believe the most important asset you have in your whole life is your health. A lot of women may find they put the needs of their partner, family or loved ones before their own. Women are so good at this. So, if I suggested the health or lives of your children or partner depended on you having a massage this week – in other words, they would get sick if you didn’t have one – would you find the time and money to do so? Of course, you would. Your massage has now become a major priority.
Priorities are what drive us. They are our focus. If it was really important for you to have a holiday in Europe but you didn’t have the time or money right now, you would start to make a plan. You would begin saving and begin to work out your itinerary. And whether it was one week or one year before you left, you would get there. You would get there because your holiday became a priority.
Many people have a great deal of trouble prioritising people and activities in their life. Think about yourself for a minute. Begin by assessing your relationships: Higher power, spouse/partner, children, friends, employment – is this your order of priority? Often people living with symptoms of Super Woman Syndrome have this list reversed.
If you are really truthful, you’ll admit that you believe no one else can do what you do. If you don’t do things yourself they won’t get done, everyone else is too busy, or you think you will be seen as a failure if you can’t manage it all. Recognising that this way of thinking is not helping you is the first step, then learning to delegate and asking for help, is next; however, learning to say ‘no’ at times could be your lifesaver too! Easier said than done, right?
* Plan, Plan, Plan
The key to managing a full-on busy life is to plan your day. Often we plan what we are doing for work but what about time out for you? What about your meals? Do you plan what you are going to eat for the day? What time will you fit in some exercise? When is your chill-out time? If you lead a busy life, one of the most important things you can do is plan your day, plan your week, plan your month. Almost too simple to be true this one!
* Manage Your Guilt
For those of you who are mothers, you will know this one. One of the toughest things for busy women who work is feeling comfortable about how much time they spend with their children. What is the right answer here – a full-time nanny, day care, half-days, a live in au pair? The answer is: do what works for YOU and YOUR family. My suggestion is that whatever decision you make, go with it, then limit the amount of guilt you allow yourself! Be kind to yourself. And change it if it isn’t working.
* Good Food, Good Mood
You have heard it all before and yet again I reinforce it. Eat fresh, whole foods. Choose live foods (as nature intended) and avoid processed/packaged foods as much as possible. What is important is that you truly get ‘you are what you eat, eats’. What goes into your mouth has an effect on how you think and feel, your energy levels, your mood, and your productivity. Eating on the run, eating packaged foods, takeaways, muffins and coffee or, worse still, having no time to eat at all, are typical Super Woman habits. Trust me – if you do not invest in your health and wellbeing now, then sickness will invest itself in you later.
* Role Models Not Supermodels
It’s a very powerful message particularly at this time when advertising and marketing is so based on the ‘beauty’ images of rail-thin and very tall models! What tone of voice do you use when discussing your health and wellbeing? How do you talk about your body, hair and skin? How do you accept compliments? How do you talk around your friends and family?
Most women will agree they don’t want their children growing up with hang-ups about their body or image, but if they hear their role models and mentors saying things like ‘I hate my hair’, ‘I’m so fat’, ‘I can’t be bothered’, ‘Money doesn’t grow on trees you know’ ‘I’m so broke’ – then what messages are we giving them?
When a child asks for a certain toy for example and you cannot afford it – is this what you tell them? ‘Money doesn’t grow on trees you know’. Or do you try to encourage them by saying, ‘Wow that would be amazing; do you think we could come up with a plan to save up so you can get that toy?’ You are not saying ‘no’ are you? And the responsibility is now on them to be creative. You are helping them see they can achieve goals if they create a plan.
* Age Gracefully
Ageing is a natural biological process we experience as each year passes. Sadly, women often berate themselves as they age – almost as if they associate more wrinkles with less value. They turn to expensive ANTI-ageing products, or the more radical option – surgery! Now, while it is important to pamper yourself and use good skincare, your intention should be to nourish and care for your skin and body to help it age gracefully, rather than engaging in a war with the wrinkles. If we place a greater emphasis on reducing stress, eating a healthy diet with plenty of water, fresh air, skin protection and regular exercise, along with plenty of sleep and relaxation, then we give our body the best chance to age in a more graceful way. There’s a better chance you will enjoy the ride too!
Remember, age is just a number. Laughter lines, fine lines – even frown lines – characterize who we are. They do not mean it’s time to go under the surgeon’s knife. I have met women of all ages (wrinkles ’n’ all!) who radiate energy, vitality and beauty. Growing older is growing wiser; life is about loving yourself and accepting who you are. A healthy attitude is key here. It plays a significant role in how you regard yourself and others.
* Daily Body Boost
How do you feel when you stand naked in front of a mirror? Are you horrified, pleased, shocked or rapt? If you cannot stand in front of the mirror every morning and say ‘Wow – look at me’, then you definitely need to take on the daily body boost routine! We are often quick to criticise our body, be disappointed in it and abuse it – literally! Now is the beginning of the rest of your life and it is time to acknowledge the amazing machine that houses you. Your body is a temple, an incredible vehicle that transports you through life, no matter how it looks. I can guarantee there are people out there who would love to have your problem areas rather than theirs. Just remember, it’s ok to want to change your body, but do it with better health as your goal rather than focusing on weight loss or shape change. If the focus is on feeling better, there are fewer chances of disappointment when certain weight or size measurements are not achieved. Give yourself time to change if that is what you would like to have happen. Don’t expect miracle creams or surgery to ‘fix’ you! A daily body boost ritual will have you honouring and nurturing your body before you know it, and then you will see transformations unfold before your eyes! The focus is better health, not your size.
Take Care of the SUPERWOMAN in You!
I do know what it means to have little time. I know what it is like to have no extra money to take time and indulge ourselves when I really want to or need to. But I have discovered that ‘no time’ or ‘no money’ is no longer a valid excuse for not taking care of myself. Women are incredibly good at giving. They often put their own needs last in order to support or help someone else. I am suggesting you start to make yourself a priority. Take a bit of time out for you. Make it guilt-free and savour it. No one else will do it for you. There is only one person you can count on to do this and that is YOU.
Just think about it for a moment – if you did pay a little more time and attention to your own needs, how would that look? What would it feel like? Taking a few moments at the end of a busy day to run a bath, put on some music and light a candle is not a huge ask or expense. Using a natural exfoliant on your hands and painting your nails does wonders for how you feel about yourself, and a facial mask helps your skin glow and your mind unwind. All of these treats take little time or money.
I am no different from you or the countless other women out there trying to do their best. I just make it a priority to indulge myself at least once a day with some of the things I have spoken about here. I have also realized how important it is to the welfare of my husband, children, friends, family and work colleagues that I do take care. After all, when the woman of the house is happy and healthy life runs pretty smoothly for everyone else!
Prioritising your physical and emotional wellness is the key to a truly happy and vibrant life. Taking responsibility has a ripple effect, positively enhancing the lives of everyone around you. Treat yourself with the utmost respect and be grateful for where you are, right here, right now. Know you have the power to be an extraordinary human being without suffering Super Woman Syndrome. It is about feeling good in your own skin, being proud of who you are and who you are becoming.
You are an amazing Super Woman and you deserve the best!

SLP 65: A Lifelong Journey Of Self Love with Natalie Miller
Tuesday Apr 13, 2021
Tuesday Apr 13, 2021
“I think you just have to listen and not pass judgement and just say, ‘I hear you’ because as somebody who has experienced these things and kept them inside for so long we think that nobody could possibly understand what we’ve been through or how we are feeling. And we don’t need necessarily somebody to solve the problems we just need somebody to know that we’ve been heard.” Natalie Miller
This beautiful woman’s story is deeply resonating and powerful. From a younger life of abuse and bullying, it was hard for her to have any sense of ‘self’ let alone self-love. Natalie Miller is an educator and clinical aromatherapist, researcher and writer. She is someone who has been through a life long journey learning how to truly love and accept herself. She is a mum and extraordinary soul who knows that if you want to change your life you’re the only one who has the power to do so.
In the mid 90’s she found herself in a metaphysical store and purchased some oils, crystals and books which helped, however, her pain was just put in a box. It wasn’t until she hit 40 when the lid on that box exploded and she found herself in a very dark place.
There are no accidents, she found herself picking up two amazing books – ‘You Sexy Mother’ by Jodie Hedley-Ward and ‘Like Chocolate For Women’ by Kim Morrison and Fleur Whelligan (now Davis).
She wrote a ‘Living Life List’ (like a bucket list) and one of those things was to learn about Aromatherapy which she enrolled in.
She still kept the lid on her heart space, she protected herself and after purchasing beautiful Robbi Zeck’s book ‘The Blossoming Heart’ she felt she started to open herself up more and more. Her biggest fear was that nobody would love her, but this book taught her to see herself as a flower gradually opening-up.
Natalie shares how to navigate your way through abuse and bullying. She is honest about her reaction to these experiences.
She acknowledges that ‘hurt people, hurt people’. And she finds herself always questioning both sides of hurt… Why are you hurting? What’s behind you hurting?’
Her go-to’s so she does not hurt people she loves:
Sleep
Retreat into her bedroom sanctuary
Nana naps do wonders
Essential oils are her go-to
I Am statements ~ this ritual is done morning and night – “I am happy, I am healthy, I am wealthy, I am wise, I am beauty, I am love.”
Love, Grace and Gratitude ritual from Robbi Zeck
Take sips of water and say my mantra to really drink in the words
It’s interesting that her reading ‘Like Chocolate For Women’ on essential oils made her write a bucket list. And that her biggest take-home was in order to change her life, see she needed to look at her life and if not happy she realised she was the only one who could change it.
3 things she wrote down as part of her list to change… learn aromatherapy, bungy-jump and meet her favourite band INXS!
Natalie truly believes that writing down your goals, (or a ‘live my life’ list) puts it out to the Universe and then it all conspires for you. If you don’t ask the answer is always no! Ask anyway!
We take a deep dive into the Aromatherapy Industry and how it has exploded over the past decade.
There is an unfortunate side that includes misinformation, particularly on social media. But like anything in the world going on now we need to question both sides, understand what is good information and what is not.
She talks about how to protect the Aromatherapy industry in a better, safer and more sustainable way. She says you don’t have to use all the oils all the time every day. We need to think long term.
Sustainability means as consumers we need to listen to the experts. People like avid researcher Robert Tisserand who has been around since the early seventies. Knowing there is more lavender sold on the market than is distilled, we need to understand there are extenders and synthetics added to make this happen. Natalie is avid on understanding how to use the oils, what does the end-user need to know to achieve what they need to in their own home.
She talks about how much raw material is required to fill those small amber bottles, so it is important to respect and revere this beautiful plant therapy. She subscribes to the importance of your intention when making blends or putting on your diffuser.
A favourite teacher of Natalie’s is Mark Webb and she learned the power of intent from him and to sometimes let go and trust, there are some things you cannot explain. And that’s ok!
It is important to know that anyone can train their nose to smell the difference in the quality of oils. You can tell the difference of quality organic essential oils the more you use them.
They are the most profound healing tool to help open the heart more.
Rose essential oil and Indian Sandalwood grown in Australia are two oils that are beautiful to have in a roller bottle and placed over the heart space and neck to create a more loving heart space. So helpful to get through the emotional unravelling of life. Sweet Orange is one of my happy oils to help create a smile. Oils help to get out of your head and into your heart.
You don’t have to understand about oils but things like the Aroma Cards and Robbi Zeck’s Cards are beautiful tools to trust which oils are right for you in that moment. Here is a link to the amazing Aroma Cards
The Self Love & Wellness Mentorship group is wonderful accountability each week. It’s easy to hide from the world and not face whatever problem there is.
Definition of self-love is to show up for yourself every day in whatever way shape or form that is. The only person you can truly rely on is yourself. Why not befriend yourself, love yourself like you would anybody else. Show that love for yourself. Keep showing up for yourself.
Natalie’s Quotes:
‘Definition of insanity is doing the same thing but expecting the results to be different.’
‘Do what you’ve always done you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got.’
‘Do your best until you know better, then when you know better, you do better.’ Maya Angelou

SLP 64: Aromatherapy for the Skin
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
Thursday Apr 08, 2021
In this week’s Self Love Quicky I answer the question of how essential oils can help your skin, which ones are best and why they are your super power? We talk about how aromatherapy works and which are the top 10 in skincare to support you to age with grace.
Aromatherapy as a healing modality has been practised for thousands of years but it is only in the last century that it has become scientifically validated. Aromatherapy, put simply, is a therapy using aromas. These aromas are called essential oils and are extracted from herbs, grass, bark, flowers, resin, peel, roots and various other plant sources. Steam distillation is the most common method of extraction, which leaves two distinct liquids – floral water and the essential oil. Some companies bottle and sell the floral waters as well as the essential oils. An essential oil is highly concentrated, sometimes 70 times the plant it is has come from. The key thing to remember with aromatherapy is less is best. Only a few drops are needed to make a difference.
Before you begin using essential oils it is important to understand that even though aromatherapy is a natural therapy it is not necessarily safe. It is imperative you read and understand all contra-indications as some oils need to be used with caution. Care must be taken for people with sensitive skins, epilepsy or high blood pressure. Some oils should also be avoided during pregnancy or in direct sunlight. If you are unsure check with a qualified aromatherapist and have a good book as your reference or guide. (Refer to our first book Like Chocolate for Women)
There are many fantastic ways to use essential oils including massage, vaporisation, bathing, compressing, inhalation, footbaths, spritzer and, occasionally, directly. Here is a quick reference blending chart to give you the precise number of drops to use for each method of use for a healthy adult. Less is required for babies, children, elderly and pregnant women.
Body Rub 6 ml of base oil + 3 drops
Vaporising 6-8 drops
Bathing 3-6 drops
Compress 3-4 drops
Inhalation 3-4 drops
Footbath 3-6 drops
Spritzer 3-6 drops
Direct Application Place 1 drop on damp cotton bud
It is important to measure accurately, to label all blends, store your essential oils in glass (preferably amber or cobalt) and, again, be aware of all cautions. The key when blending is to make sure you are absolutely delighted with the combination. That way you are most likely to use it.
Here are 10 of my favourite essential oils for the skin and some of their properties.
Chamomile : Soothes dermal inflammation, relieves allergies, excellent for eczema, dermatitis and burns. The most anti-inflammatory of all the oils. Gently sedating, calming and soothing.
Frankincense : Regenerating and rejuvenating on prematurely aged or mature skin, it is healing and repairing. Comforting and fortifying, deeply relaxing with a drying up effect.
Geranium: Geranium normalises skin imbalances and promotes healing to skin disruptions. It’s great for dry eczema and dermatitis, and helps balance sebum production. A great regulating oil, it brings balance to hormonal change and helps balance mood swings.
Lavender: Lavender is the most nurturing and soothing oil. It is gently sedating, relaxing and calming. An excellent firstaid remedy, it is great for bites and stings, relieves itchiness and irritation, and helps activate the immune system. It heals scalds, burns and scars, is soothing and healing to dermatitis, and acts as a cell regenerator.
Orange: Orange is cleansing to oily skin, excellent for softening smoker’s skin and hardened skin affected by sun damage. It helps relieve mild headaches and mild insomnia. It is helpful for nervous conditions and is refreshing and uplifting.
Manuka or Tea Tree: Manuka is a highly antibacterial oil, excellent for body and skin infections, acne and sensitive skin. It is both healing and soothing and helps stabilize skin conditions. It is one of the most anti-fungal oils.
Rosewood or Cedarwood: Soothing and healing, rosewood promotes elasticity deep in the skin and is good for all skin types, especially tired skins in need of a boost. It is also excellent for scars, wounds and wrinkles.
Sandalwood : Sandalwood is soothing to dry and cracked skin and promotes elasticity. It helps strengthen the adrenals and soothes a sore throat. We find it a very strengthening and calming oil.
Palmarosa: Palmarosa is antiseptic, hydrating and regenerating, excellent for dry and mature skins. It helps in treating stress-related disorders and is calming and relaxing.
Rose : Rose oil is excellent for dry and mature skin as it rehydrates and rejuvenates and promotes health and vitality in the skin. The great healer of the heart, it is balancing, nurturing and comforting and brings with it physical and emotional stability.
Essential oils can have any of the following qualities:
Sedative: – induces sedation, calms nervousness, helps relax.
Stimulant: – produces temporary increase in functional activity, provides stimulus, quickening or excitement.
Anaesthetic: – reduces sensitivity to pain and has numbing effect.
Antiseptic : – reduces and prevents infection and inhibits the growth of bacteria.
Cytophylactic : – enhances cell renewal and regeneration.
Diuretic: – causes increased flow of urine.
Expectorant: – encourages secretion of mucus in the airways.
All skincare preparations should encourage harmony and balance in order to address the primary needs of the skin and to support its natural functions. The skin reflects our expression of ourselves. How we look after the skin, what we subject it to, what we feed it, how we treat it and what we feel and think will all be reflected in the skin’s appearance and function.
If you want to use the many facets of aromatherapy for good health and on your skin, it is imperative that you use high quality pure essential oils and cold pressed base oils. These are more likely to give the therapeutic response you are seeking.

Stress and relaxation are almost complete opposites. The exhilaration of a challenge or the excitement of an adventure are positive stresses which gives us the ‘high’ of living, but when these become heavy demands, stress can work against us instead of for us. Your face is one of the first places you – and your friends, family and colleagues – will see the tell-tale signs of demanding stress in your life.
Essential oils can be a fantastic tool in helping to maintain a more balanced lifestyle, enabling you to move between the two stresses good and bad, and to work with your intrinsic natural rhythms, enabling you to constantly restore the energy you give out.

SLP 63: A Conversation We Need To Have with Dr Sherrill Sellman
Wednesday Apr 07, 2021
Wednesday Apr 07, 2021
This week we have the conversation that needs to be had with the incredible Dr Sherrill Sellman. As much as change is happening on a global level, looking like chaos around us, it’s an impulse that is also allowing us to step into a more profound awareness and in this deep-dive conversation we find out how we can open our consciousness and become more aware.
As a Board-Certified Integrative Naturopathic Doctor, mind-body psychotherapist, author, journalist, international lecturer, contributing writer to numerous health magazines and host of a weekly podcast, Dr Sherrill Sellman’s focus has always been to offer practical, safe and effective holistic solutions for the myriad of the health and hormonal issues that challenging women of all ages.
In this conversation Sherrill shares very generously about the black cloud that hit her when she was just 21years of age. But she also says this was the time that also raised the blinds that allowed the light in and started her journey of self-awakening and serving others.
Sherrill says we all go through times of challenge, through the cauldron crucible. She calls it the Dark Knight Of The Soul, where we feel like there is no real purpose, a deep despair, or when everything is taken away, the ground is shaky, it is an intense time.
It is also a time when the soul sheds a skin making anew, like a caterpillar that dissolves everything to become the butterfly.
For some it can take decades to find themselves or their purpose especially when there is no reference point. If we allow the connection back into the essence of the soul, it can shake us to the core. But it is a journey, a journey guided by the soul. And it is around the ages of 28-30 that can be one of the most pivotal times in someone’s life.
These times can be a massive change and re-evaluation. Be driven to look behind the curtain Sherrill says.
We are all in this great and profound moment to be here and participate in this transformational time. This is not a walk in the park, it will take a serious spiritual practice.
Sherrill recommends looking for all the ways our angels can show up to guide us through. One of her angels was Dr Harville Hendrix who wrote the book called ‘Getting The Love You Want’, who taught her the importance of listening to the other person.
This is a heartfelt conversation with Sherrill recommending always find a way to calm the mind, like getting into nature, watch the sunrise, meditate and find a way to listen as all the answers will come from within. There are more neurons in the heart than the brain. She says things happen when we are willing to change.
Sherrill’s Quote:
‘A walk in nature walks the soul back home.’
About Sherrill:
Over the years, Sherrill has challenged many of the accepted (but false) beliefs that women have been taught about their bodies and hormones.
She has also challenged the many medical and pharmaceutical interventions that have been of the allopathic model.
Sherrill is falways seeking the many proven and safe solutions that truly support women of all ages to attain optimal health and wellness. Her research and clinical experience, more often than not, challenges the traditional medical model’s approach that are usually (but often erroneously) prescribed to women.
Sherrill believes that the body has an innate ability to heal, regenerate and rejuvenate at any age and from any condition. The healing journey must incorporate a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual re-alignment.
Her website freely offers many useful and effective resources along with articles, podcast shows, educational videos and an informative blog.
Her various educational programs and health consultations allows her to offer personal support and guidance.
As you will hear in this podcast the knowledge that she has gained over the past 30 years on her own health journey has allowed her to totally heal and rejuvenate her body.
It is her greatest pleasure and honour, to share this knowledge and along with the tips she offers in this podcast you will be able to enjoy the blessings of an ageless body and endless vitality as well as feel more confident on dealing with the changes we are enduring globally on a daily basis.

SLP 62: Self Love Quicky – Your Relationship With You
Thursday Apr 01, 2021
Thursday Apr 01, 2021
As Easter, a time of rebirthing, is upon us, take some time to really think about your relationship with YOU. Use this special time to honour how you treat yourself and then notice how it affects how you treat others. Be mindful that life is not happening TO you but, for you, AS you. In this week’s Self Love Quicky we take a peek into how your relationship with yourself and how it is the most important one you will have in your life. Happy Easter lovely.
“I have found that the greatest degree of inner tranquillity comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of wellbeing. Cultivating a close, warm-hearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. It is the ultimate source of success in life.” The Dalai Lama
Relationships can be the most amazing and satisfying things in life, but they are also a mystery. There are people out there you instantly ‘click’ with, people with whom you feel as though you have been best friends for life. There are others with whom you share an incredible attraction, a magnetism that is almost unexplainable. Yet there are some who can rub you up the wrong way – sometimes before they even speak!
Some believe this has to do with our internal ‘wiring’ – we are destined to meet certain people and programmed to find the ‘right’ ones for us. Others feel a lot has to do with our personality types or astrological stars. Whatever the reasons, relationships with all sorts of different people can be the most rewarding – and the most heartbreaking – aspects of life.
Your relationships with others, your partner, children, family, work colleagues and friends are all an extension of the relationship with yourself. These relationships are a fulfilling and rewarding part of your life. But relationships don’t just happen; good healthy relationships require time and energy from both sides. Learning to accept other people’s differences and taking responsibility for your own actions and feelings is essential. When we look at life through different eyes, have an acceptance of each other’s viewpoint and a willingness to communicate positive and negative feelings, this can open the door for our relationships to flourish.
If you can’t see the bright side, polish the dull side!
One of the most important relationships you will encounter is the one you have with yourself. Learning to be your own best friend is the key to happiness. It starts with learning to take responsibility for your own life, how you respond to circumstances and how you react to things that come your way. How much you respect yourself, love yourself and how much you take time to nurture this special relationship.
Unfortunately, a lot of people find it easier to blame something or someone else if things in their own life are not going right. It is important to cultivate a positive attitude, resist being a victim of circumstance and realise that even though things can be difficult, you have choices. When you understand that you have a choice every day in how you react to life’s circumstances, you realise YOU actually have the power, you hold the key to your own happiness, growth and learning.
Being your own best friend means being truthful with yourself, acknowledging all that you are: your feelings, your intelligence, your intuition, your whole self. It is about being gentle and caring for yourself. This is not being self-centred, this is loving yourself. We have heard many times that if you can’t learn to truly care for yourself, how can you unconditionally care for others? Like the Bible says, ‘Love thy neighbour as thyself’. It does not say ‘instead of yourself’ or ‘better than yourself’, because true love comes from the love you draw from within yourself. Anything else is adoration or longing.
Remember we all have that inner critic that can bring us down if we let it. Rather than agreeing with it or fighting it, be gentle and encourage yourself to overcome whatever it says. We have the power to control whether we agree or disagree with it. Remind yourself it is ok to feel vulnerable at times, even if you feel like a young child who is unsure or even scared. This is normal. Being an adult isn’t a door you automatically pass through, it is a journey, one of continually learning and growing, and it never stops.
It is from the ages of 0-7 that our imprinting occurs. We then start to create more meaning. Incidences can occur that we make mean things that could absolutely not be true, but for some reason, at that moment they are the truth and can become a truth for many years to come. They then become a belief.
We have to remember that we have a choice every single day to get to know ourselves more. To forgive and be kind. We have a choice to be accountable, responsible and take ownership for the way we respond to what happens in our world or we can go below the line and blame, be in denial or make excuses.
The greatest gift we can give humanity is the best version of ourselves. That takes work and a constant showing up.
Over this holiday break of Easter, a time of rebirthing, maybe give yourself the time to rebirth you, get to know you. Notice if people trigger you, notice why they trigger you and maybe be aware that if people are not being their best selves maybe they are going through something too.
We may not be able to control the things that are happening in the world, especially with lock-downs and the up and down nature of things right now, but we can control the way we respond to it.
Life is not happening to us but rather for us, through us… as us.
Wishing you a very beautiful and Happy Easter and thankyou from the bottom of my heart for being a part of this Self Love Club.

SLP 61: A Scented Life with Pat Princi-Jones
Tuesday Mar 30, 2021
Tuesday Mar 30, 2021
“There is this incredible shift in Aromatherapy from when you and I started, that is was all ‘feel-good’, to today it’s really cutting edge science. And there’s so much neurological research that confirms, as you said when you started this section, the connection between the mind, the brain and our ability to heal. And that yes, when we breathe in the essential oil particles they go directly to the right brain, the limbic system which is in fact the emotional control centre of the brain. Everything that is happening of importance that isn’t constructed, that isn’t rehearsed, happens in the right brain.” Pat Princi-Jones
This week I get to introduce you to one of my most favourite human’s, my darling and very dear friend Pat Princi-Jones. Get ready to be a fly on the wall as we catch up and re-live the time when we first met over 35 years ago. We talk about the magic of aromatherapy, how impactful it has been in both of our lives personally and professionally. Pat shares her new book ‘A Scented Life’ and she explains how she fell head over heels with this amazing modality swapping her love of Othello for Basil!
She talks openly about the power of essential oils daily. They are not magic quick-fixes but they enhance our lives incredibly well. The daily use of essential oils is a wonderful top-up. The key in her opinion is less is more.
Pat Princi-Jones goes to the heart of Aromatherapy
Melbourne-based aromatherapy advocate and author of A Scented Life, Pat Princi-Jones is renowned for her energy and passion along with professional and knowledgeable delivery.
Her repertoire and experience range from an intimate knowledge of pure essential oils and their use for everyday wellbeing. She brings to life the rituals of Aromatherapy including the magic of self-massage, bathing, foot baths, hot oil masks and hair treatments to name a few. Pat recounts ways in which the therapeutic powers of essential oils can be used to relax and revive the senses, contribute to relationships, enhance natural beauty and help relieve stress and insomnia.
Her portfolio includes sales forces training in pharmacy, health food and department stores. She is regularly invited as a guest speaker at universities, hospitals and industry seminars to detail the growing use of pure essential oils as complementary medicine in Pharmacy. She features on youtube and engages with social media influencers to keep abreast of trends in this fast-growing field.
Pat first established her career in Aromatherapy in 1990 as a writer, editor and facilitator of Aromatherapy workshops and programs for one of Australia’s leading aromatherapy brands. For over 30 years she has kept abreast of current trends in the industry and promotes the principles of safe practice.
Today, Pat is following her dream to continue teaching aromatherapy to the end-user. She is currently consulting in aromatherapy and has joined forces with industry expert, Mirella Chiodo to create their own brand, scentedlife.com. Her rewarding career with In Essence, has secured her role as company expert and spokesperson in aromatherapy.
For Pat, her role is “both rewarding and challenging”. The very art of aromatherapy, the variety of applications and the blending of plant aromas renders it the most beautiful complementary therapy of the 21st century; one which for Pat “awakens the senses and consequently the self”, she avows.
Pat’s formal credentials and memberships include:
Bachelor of Arts and Dip Education (English/History major) UNSW, Sydney, Australia; Aromatherapy 1, Australian College of Natural Medicine; Cert 1V in Training and Assessment, TAE40110, HBA Learning Centres, Victoria. Associate member of IAAMA, International Aromatherapy & Aromatic Medicine Association. 2016.
Her website is: https://www.scentedlife.com.au/
Her book is called – ‘A Scented Life’ which has so much wonderful information and a beautiful journey into the world of aromatherapy.
What Kim thinks of Pat’s book:
‘If there is one book to treat yourself to… it is definitely ‘A Scented Life.’ You will get the essence of friendship, connection, nature, healing and the incredible intelligence of the mind, body and soul. You will also understand our deep reverence for nature herself and how we can really feel and be a part of it. There is huge power in shinrin yoku, which is forest bathing, but we don’t always get the opportunity to get to a forest, so to bathe ourselves in essential oils and bathe ourselves literally and metaphorically with the words that you speak in here is one of the most powerful ways to connect and get to the core of a subject that is very dear to me and that is self-love.’ Kim Morrison
The Aromatherapy book Pat mentions and recommends is: ‘Essential Oils and Aromatherapy Workbook’ by Marcel Lavabre
Pat’s definition of Self Love is… ‘It is accepting who you are, it’s accepting what are the gifts are that you came in with, acknowledging those gifts that you came in with from the Divine, to work your light on others and yourself and just accept yourself with more focus on the inside, that soul connection. Breathe into who are truly are.’
Some of Pat’s favourite blends she spoke of include:
Sensual Bali Blend – Jasmine, Ylang Ylang and Patchouli
Diffuser Citrus Blend – Lime, Bergamot, Mandarin, Grapefruit and Orange
Courage and Strength – Frankincense, Cedarwood, Sandalwood
Balance and Calm – Rose Oil
Favourite Go-To Blend – Neroli with Bergamot and hint of Vetiver
Kim’s Go-To Blend – Rose, Frankincense and Bergamot
Detox and Strengthen Blend – Juniper, Rosemary, Cypress, Lemongrass, grapefruit, black pepper and rose
Energy Body Blend – May Chang, Lemongrass, Sweet Orange and Lavender
Footbath for Clarity – Frankincense, Rosemary, Black Pepper, Juniper, Peppermint
Pat’s favourite quote comes from the book ‘Light is the New Black’ by Rebecca Campbell. It’s like a new take on The Forum.
“Our highest calling is tightly nestled right behind our core fear.’

A special thanks to the late Judith White and her sister Karen Downes who started In Essence Aromatherapy in 1986. We met them both in 1987 and became their trained international presenters for In Essence Aromatherapy and worked together for over a decade spreading our love of this amazing modality. The greatest gift we received was not only our deep love and respect for aromatherapy but the appreciation of a very loving and meaningful friendship too.

SLP 60: Self Love Quicky – Bergamot
Thursday Mar 25, 2021
Thursday Mar 25, 2021
Bergamot – Citrus bergamia
This week we take a look at the amazing essential oil of Bergamot. A skin tonic, nerve relaxant and digestive aid this beautiful oil is also a fantastic skin booster. Learn what essential oils it blends well with and how you can incorporate them into your daily self-care rituals for health and wellness.
Bergamot is a small citrus fruit that is native to southern Italy. The fruit itself is very sour so is primarily grown for its essential oil. It is said to have been named after Bergamo, an Italian town in Lombardy where it was originally thought to be sold. The aroma is sweet, refreshing and slightly herbaceous and is one of the most popular oils used in the perfume and eau de toilette industries.
Traditionally, in Italian folklore, it was used to treat fever and worms and in the prevention of malaria. Today it is also used as an ideal antiseptic wash over wounds, sores and acne. Combined with oils like Tea Tree, Lavender and Sandalwood it makes an excellent winter remedy to help in the prevention of colds and flus and is particularly effective in helping to inhibit cold sores, chickenpox and shingles.
Bergamot is an excellent skin tonic, especially when blended with Rock Rose as it can help relieve conditions associated with chronic stress like eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis. It can help calm emotional states and nervous conditions connected to eating disorders like anorexia or overeating. It is also an excellent digestive aid when blended with Peppermint, Fennel or Ginger then massaged over the abdomen to help reduce bloating and indigestion.
One of the most precious qualities of this oil is that it can assist in balancing nervous anxiety and stress and can help to dispel those butterfly feelings as they arise in the tummy. It combines beautifully into a massage blend with Lavender, Chamomile and Neroli as a support to the common Bach flower ‘Rescue Remedy’. Bergamot helps to address fears and insecurities and is ideal to use daily in a vaporiser or Diffuser so everyone receives its many benefits.
Due to the amount of bergaptene in this oil it has been found to be phototoxic on the skin when exposed to UV light. The application of undiluted oil can lead to unwanted, spotty discolouration of the skin, which can take months to heal. Avoiding exposure to the sun directly after a bath or massage is recommended.
If you ever make an aromatic blend of essential oils and do not like the smell as much as you had hoped, Bergamot is the best oil to help turn the blend and make it more palatable to the nose. The best part is one or two drops may be all that is required to completely lift it.
Bergamot helps to bring about a sense of ease and is said to help those stuck in the past. It has very warming, strengthening qualities, which can be helpful in regaining self-confidence. Even though it is a gentle, calming and somewhat relaxing oil, it can also be very uplifting and harmonizing.
Apart from its medicinal and therapeutic application, and its addition in perfumes, it is also well known in cosmetics as one of the main flavouring agents for Earl Grey Tea.
If you would like a bottle of this incredible oil you can check out Twenty8’s Bergamot

SLP 59: Navigate Your Plate with Kimberly Steele
Tuesday Mar 23, 2021
Tuesday Mar 23, 2021
“You don’t have to spend a lot of money but when you get a resource like Byron Katies ‘Loving What Is’ book actually do it. Don’t just read it. Don’t put it down when it says ‘Grab a pen, I want you to do this now’. You’ve got to grab a pen and do it now! Louise Hay is another one. She has ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ and that’s a brilliant book. It’s like a novel but it has some actions to take as well. So don’t just flick over things and go ‘Oh yeah I’ll go back and do that, I just want to read and see what’s at the end. Actually, do it. Because a lot of people have changed their lives just from taking action from a $25 book.” Kimberly Steele
Get ready to go down the rabbit hole on the power of mindset and food for healing. Kimberly Steele, a registered nurse of over 20 years who spent the majority of her nursing in Intensive Care looking after the critically ill, discovered the power of real food in healing the body. It affected her so much she decided to start a career in getting to people before a crisis hits. She shares her remarkable story in a humble and pragmatic way and as you will hear her own health journey started after she attended a Wellness Summit in Melbourne.
Kimberly has been constantly evolving ever since, discovering that there’s more to health than good food. Her point of difference is her fuss-free way of teaching people how to prepare nourishing food that ultimately heals the body. Her cooking videos and recipes are easy to follow and she has an infectious and inspiring way of showing her followers how to go from fed up to fed well.
She never really liked the spotlight and it took a hell of a lot of work and personal growth to take her nutrition coaching to the next level. Kimberly shares her business journey where year after year it just wasn’t hitting the mark to now launching her brand new online program called ‘Navigate Your Plate’ helping people to make better food choices and take into account the importance of mental and emotional wellbeing too. This is not woo woo!
One of her simple recommendations that costs nothing is to listen to podcasts. Keep hearing the information, revisit the content frequently. Keep fluid, moving and growing all the time.
Another big learning over the years is Kimberly’s ability to not be so invested in what other people think of her. As a result, she is more relaxed, less worried about the little things as a parent or in her relationship with her hubby. She says she is a better listener and has stopped her urge to just find solutions for everyone’s problems. She has come to the conclusion that everyone has the answers within them, you just have to ask the right questions. She has more self-confidence and focuses more on self-love. She does not come up with the excuses she used to and in order to grow her business has stopped the procrastination.
One of her favourite insights from Byron Katie is the idea that there is MY Business, YOUR Business and UNIVERSAL Business.
She feels she is in a really good space right now simply by using the tools and resources she has been learning over the years. This positive space has allowed her to now help others.
Kimberly also shares her own personal journey realising after going to the Wellness Summit and then visiting a wholistic integrative medical doctor as well as listening to people like Cyndi O’Meara that she actually had a problem with gluten and a thyroid condition. She followed Pete Evans’ Paleo Way protocol and noticed within 2 weeks there were significant changes in her own health. All her symptoms, which she thought were just natural artefacts of growing older and normal, were gone within 6 weeks.
We talk about the downside of hospital food and why Kimberly is so motivated to help people before they end up needing hospital care. She also appreciates a GP cannot possibly know everything therefore it is a great idea to get a good team around you that could include an osteopath, chiropractor, physio, naturopath and health coach.
Kimberly shares her self care tips which include:
Exercise
Meditate
Body Boost every morning
Deep breathwork
Yoga
Coffee and rituals with friends
And realise there is no point getting uptight!

SLP 58: Self Love Quicky – Cooking With Essential Oils
Thursday Mar 18, 2021
Thursday Mar 18, 2021
Essential oils are not only fabulous for your health and wellbeing, but they’re also quite amazing when used correctly in cooking and there can be much satisfaction and appreciation for these intense flavour agents. In this week’s Self Love Quicky we look at which essential oils are best for cooking and when it is best to add them to your recipe, when not to use them and which ones are generally regarded as safe.
As you dive deeper into the qualities and properties of essential oils, you’ll discover that a number of them belong just as much in the kitchen as they do in your diffuser or bathroom, like orange, basil, rosemary, lemon, lime, clove and many more.
But before you even think of adding a drop to any recipe, be sure that the oils are generally regarded as safe (GRAS). For a complete list of essential oils that are safe for cooking, check out this list from the FDA.
Another tip if you’re unsure which oils are best, make sure they are actually something we would eat in nature. If you have a favourite blend of essential oils, make sure they are all oils that come from a food source. You would not eat a pine or eucalyptus tree for example so it might be best to avoid using a blend with these oils in your cooking.
Understanding that essential oils are highly concentrated, often up to 100 times more than the herb or plant they came from, is one of the most important things to note. The key when using essential oils in cooking is less is best.
When making a savory dish like a sauce for zucchini noodles for instance 3 drops of basil maybe all that is required to flavor the meal. One or two of drops of lemongrass into some steamed rice can do wonders for a Thai dish. 3-4 drops of peppermint into a chocolate chia cake brings it alive and of course a few drops of lime into a coconut cream icing is heaven! Using a few drops only, it is the herbal, spicy and citrus oils are most effective when it comes to flavoring foods.
Essential oils are also a wonderful substitute if you don’t have certain ingredients on hand. If you see that a recipe calls for lemon zest and you’re out of fresh lemons at home, a few drops of lemon oil can easily take its place. You could try lemon, grapefruit, lime and orange oils in many recipes that require these fresh citrus fruit flavours.
Similarly, oregano, thyme and basil oils can be used for many Italian and Mediterranean recipes. I love to add a drop of basil or rosemary to my extra virgin olive oil which can give it that wee pep and a little more flavour. Keep in mind, though, that these oils are very potent, so a drop or two of each will give you the exquisite flavour you are after.
I’ve mentioned it already and I’ll repeat it one more time: Essential oils have a huge amount of flavour. This means a few drops of an oil is equal to about a teaspoon of a comparable extract (think vanilla, lemon, almond or mint).
Another key element is to know when to add your essential oils to a recipe. A good rule of thumb is to add them towards the end of the cooking process to preserve their most potent flavour. If you’re making something that requires the flavouring before then, it is not a problem to add to the batter or mixture you are working with (which can happen when making desserts!
As you become more familiar with using essential oils in the kitchen you will notice some oils are stronger than others. Oils like cinnamon, clove, oregano and thyme are naturally very intense oils, so be careful. I remember making Mushroom and Thyme soup once and it very quickly became Thyme Soup with a little mushroom – it was inedible!
So, when you use these essential oils in your cooking, you may like to dip a toothpick into the bottle to pick up a small amount of oil instead of using the bottle drop by drop.
One final thing to take note, essential oils do NOT dilute or mix well in water. Adding a few drops of lime to a glass of water is not ideal. The globules of essential oil will often arrive in your gut in one big strong hit and considering all essential oils have wonderful antibacterial qualities to a greater or lesser degree, and the gut is made up of trillions of bacteria, it makes sense not to compromise the amazing microbiome flora and digestive tract.
Always make sure when using oils in cooking or with food that there is a fat present in the recipe so the oil can be mixed and used efficiently and safely.
So, there you have the basics of cooking with essential oils and can see they are even more versatile than maybe first thought.
Remember these main tips:
A little goes a long way
Cooking with essential oils can be dangerous, if used incorrectly
Use oils that come from a food source only
Essential oils must be diluted in a fat when using in a recipe
Some favourite essential oils to use when cooking include basil, black pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, ginger, grapefruit, lemon, lemon balm, lemongrass, lime, mandarin, marjoram, orange, oregano, peppermint, rosemary, sage, spearmint, thyme and vanilla. Some of the floral oils like chamomile, lavender and rose make an interesting and amazing offering in recipes too.

SLP 57: Living An Epic Life with Keyen Lage
Tuesday Mar 16, 2021
Tuesday Mar 16, 2021
Picking yourself up after a career-ending injury is one of the most challenging and daunting tasks for an athlete. This week we speak to Keyen Lage, a former football player, who sustained an injury that effectively ended his football career. However, as you will discover, he managed to turn that into a positive and started on a new epic life journey.
“A lot of high performers and high achievers are “smart enough” to not use alcohol and drugs, and hey some do, and sex and those kinds of things, but what’s a popular drug of choice now I would say, is helping other people, is making lots of money, is attaching to a religion. There’s these other addictive behaviours that are glorified by many that high achievers hide behind to not have to feel a certain level of hurt and pain.” Keyen Lage
What a refreshing interview diving head-on into what it takes to step up, out, over and through the big challenges in life. In this conversation, we talk about the all-elusive idea of ‘perfectionism’ and how empowering it is to give yourself permission to NOT know what’s next. One of the key messages from Keyen is to follow your inspiration. To fall in love and form a deeper relationship with self.
This interview will be very compelling for all the high achievers expressing the importance of allowing fun in life. If we can all learn to challenge our belief systems, be willing to accept the deepest, darkest parts of ourselves and dive deep into forming a meaningful relationship with the unconscious mind then we can follow our inspiration with ease.
Some key points Keyen makes are:
Be your own biggest test subject
Do your own heavy lifting
Be willing to learn a lot and dive all the way in
Learn to handle the dark times
Allow yourself to sometimes crawl up into a ball
Don’t push the pain away, lean in and feel it
Know that your true self does not want to be a coward or bull-shitter
Have unconditional acceptance of self
Allow the masculine and feminine powers to be
Be open
Be coachable
And lead a fucking epic life!
There are many profound messages I know you are going to love in this interview. Get ready to step up and into your power and live the life you’ve always dreamed of. Even though humans are selfish by nature and you might fall into the trap of people-pleasing the most important thing we can do is to fall in love with the ambiguity of it all.
Keyen no longer lives a day by structure. He encourages each of us to be open to see a new way of living. Do the work and then do what you want to do. We reiterate… follow your inspiration.
Keyen’s final message is to let his life be an example, that it is possible to live an epic life that feels incredible to you. It’s possible to lead an awesome, awesome life. And he is the example.
His favourite quote right now is:
“It’s already done.”
Keyen is a former NFL Athlete turned Emotional Intelligence Coach for World-Class Leaders. After almost becoming paralyzed during a football injury in the National Football League, Keyen was able to start his new journey by looking at life from a completely new perspective. He dove headfirst into understanding what it actually means to live a life of fulfilment while achieving success along the way.
Since making that decision, Keyen has personally worked with over 300 people on creating a healthy relationship with themselves so they are able to escape the rat race of the achievement loop and step into a place of achieving massive success, impact, and money from a place of ease. He helps entrepreneurs, and business owners regain a deeper connection with themselves to find more fulfilment in their lives.
Keyen has worked with World-Class Fitness Models, Professional Athletes, Silicon Valley Entrepreneurs, & C-List Executives. Keyen works with people all over the world on being able to remove mental, emotional, & physical blockages that are preventing them from reaching their full potential.

SLP 56: Self Love Quicky – Essential Oils For Menopause
Thursday Mar 11, 2021
Thursday Mar 11, 2021
Thank you to one of our beautiful listeners for asking the question, ‘Can essential oils help with menopause?’ because in this week’s self-love quicky we go into some of the best oils to support a woman through this transitionary time.
The word menopause can strike fear in many women. We’ve generally been taught to fear it, fear “the change”. However, in more recent times, we’ve come to know, learn and accept more about this new phase of womanhood. We know it’s not something to be feared, but something we can embrace, learn about and from, and celebrate this new phase of our lives. One tool we can use to support us through this change is essential oils. Essential oils are a wonderful support tool to use throughout the various stages of life’s journey, and the transition into menopause can be aided by them too. But what is menopause? What oils can help offer relief and support?
So, what is menopause?
The term “menopause” refers to the final menstrual period and marks the end of a woman’s reproductive life. The lead-up, called perimenopause can last between 5 to 10 years, hence the term transition is used.
According to the Australasian Menopause Society, symptoms commonly experienced during peri- and post-menopausal women include hot flushes and night sweats, bodily aches and pains, dry skin, vaginal dryness, loss of libido, urinary frequency, and sleeping difficulties. Approximately 60% of women will have mild symptoms for around 4-8 years, 20% of women will have no symptoms at all while another 20% will be severely affected, with symptoms continuing into their 60s or later. (Australasian Menopause Society)
Perimenopause often begins with irregularities in your cycle. This can include skipping cycles or having cycles that come too quickly. You may start to experience chronic fatigue, trouble sleeping, mood swings, or depression. This is the time your progesterone levels begin to dip. Progesterone is the hormone that makes us feel good, emotionally stable and nourished.
So where do we start with our oils? What oils can support us during this cycle of our lives?
Stress
Stress levels can change easily during this phase of our lives, so it is important to manage your stress. Diffusing oils such as Neroli, Lavender or Geranium may help reduce the stress you are experiencing. Neroli is known to act as a natural sedative and can help reduce stress, irritability, and feelings of overwhelm and anger. Lavender is cherished for its calming and relaxing properties and can help ease signs of stress within our bodies. Geranium is useful in helping bring balance and harmony to our bodies and minds, and a must-have oil for your menopausal management toolkit. Place a drop of the oil on a tissue and inhale the calming aroma throughout the day or whenever you feel your stress levels rising.
Sleep
Changes in our hormones can affect our sleep patterns, so it is important to get good quality sleep as much as you can. Oils that can support your sleep include Lavender, Vetiver and Sweet Marjoram. Lavender is widely used and well known for its ability to help us relax and used in numerous commercial products as a sleep aid. The smell of Vetiver is reminiscent of wet soil, so, for some it isn’t the most pleasant smell, but it has an amazing capacity to heal us in many ways. It can help us centre ourselves, relax and unwind, especially when it comes to mental and physical exhaustion. Sweet Marjoram is calming and nurturing, and a must for any sleep blend. In your diffuser, try this simple blend: 3 drops of Lavender, 1 drop of Vetiver and 2 drops of Sweet Marjoram prior. Diffuse it for about 30 minutes prior to heading off to sleep, and make sure it is turned off before you fall asleep. It will make your room a calming space and help you to fall and stay asleep.
Feeling Blue
Whilst some women embrace this time and change of life, for many, it can bring a sense of loss and confusion leaving you feeling down. Essential oils are a great way to help uplift you. Your favourite essential oil may help during this time, or you can try Geranium, Rose or Bergamot. Geranium brings a sense of balance, and Rose can soothe the heart and uplift your spirit, whilst Bergamot can ease tension and anxiety.
Add a drop or two of these oils to your diffuser or place a drop on a tissue. You might want to create a personal perfume for yourself using these oils. Place a drop or two of each of these oils in a 10ml roller bottle and fill with jojoba or apricot kernel oil – these are just two carrier oils that could be used. Whenever you need a pick-me-up or you can feel the feelings arising, roll the bottle over your wrists or pulse points, and feel the blues dissipate.
Hot Flushes and Night Sweats
Hot flushes and night sweats are the symptoms most commonly associated with menopause. It is due to our changing hormone levels, and our inability to effectively manage their fluctuations. Peppermint, Geranium, Lavender and Neroli would be good additions to your essential oil toolkit,
Peppermint can be cooling in low dilutions which would be great for helping cool down the heat, whilst Geranium brings a sense of balance and restoration to our bodies. Neroli is known for its ability to support, stabilise and regenerate the soul and emotions so adding it to our options is perfect as the hot flushes and night sweats are due to changing hormones; therefore, Neroli can help stabilise the changing hormone levels. Lavender is purported to be very relaxing and calming to our systems and a must for every home.
Before heading to bed, place a face washer in a bowl of cool water then a couple of the above essential oils. Swirl the oils around in the water with the face washer, then place the face washer on your neck or chest area for a few minutes. This will help cool your skin down. Keep the face washer and bowl beside your bed, so you can use it during the night if you need.
Another option is, after your nightly shower, massage your favourite carrier oil like Sweet Almond or Jojoba Oil into your skin. Add 3-5 drops of the oils into the carrier beforehand, then massage all over your body.
Here is a link to my favourite Body Boost Ritual – click here
Other things to consider…
Track your cycle
As we move through the menopause process, it is important to note the changes in our cycle. Have a look at apps such as Flo or MyFlow – you can use these free phone apps to monitor symptoms and changes in your cycle. This information can be useful for your doctor, and it can help you manage your cycle better.
Apps not your thing? That’s ok, use your diary to note your mood, your cycle, your flow. All the information will give you a clearer picture of what’s happening within your body as you move through the menopause phase.
Hydrate
Dehydration can lead to elevated stress, so it is important to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
Don’t like water? Add a slice of fruit such as lemon or lime, or some herbs such a basil or mint for a refreshing flavour. Do NOT add essential oils to your water. The oils will float on top of the water, and you’ll essentially be drinking the oils straight. This can cause damage to the mucous membranes. Read our article on essential oil ingestion for more information.
Be gentle and loving to yourself
As we move through this phase of our lives, it is important to practice self-love and self-care. Practising gratitude, moving our bodies gently each day, meditating, and journaling all can help us greatly. This phase of our lives can bring us many challenges but is also a great opportunity to thrive and explore ourselves in a new light. Our beautiful can certainly help and support us on this journey.
Be gentle with yourself. Be kind to yourself. Give love to yourself. You’ve got this.
