SLP 79: The Power Of Sisterhood with Cathy Spaulding
Tuesday Jun 01, 2021
Tuesday Jun 01, 2021
‘And I also know from being through all those things that emotions pass. And moments pass. And in business if you’re having a, ‘It’s not turning out how I expected’, ‘I work so hard and this is what’s happening’, or if you go into any victim mentality or any of that sort of stuff, it’s really great to be able to sit there and say, ‘Ok, this is just in the now moment, this isn’t a moment forever.’ And to be able to either sit in that yourself and say what do I have to do to get out of this feeling or to be able to coach others to understand that this isn’t for now, how do you get out if it? What do you need to implement to either change the emotion or change the outcome? Are things that come from going through all of those highs and lows in life in general.’ Cathy Spaulding
Cathy Spaulding lost her third child tragically and as you will hear in her story this horrendous experience taught her more about herself than she could have ever imagined. She also believes it was this significant emotional event that led her to working for a company where she could work from home and protect her family but also learn to love herself and heal wholeheartedly through the power of her sisterhood.
Cathy shares how she kept going in those early days because of the love of her other children. It was tragic circumstances, and she knew she would never be the same person ever again. She does not remember how long it took to pull herself out of this big black hole but there was one day she said to herself… ‘I will not be the sad mum who has lost her child to my other children.’
She shares her story around grief and that there is no right or wrong answer on how to process it. She compares the time of 1998 when she lost her baby to the modern day now and the different levels of support and acceptance for feeling ok to go down a self-love journey.
Cathy Spaulding is a Sunshine Coast based businesswoman, a proud mum and now GG (Glamorous Grandma), a loving wife and a loyal friend. She lives a busy, yet fulfilling life, directing an empowering well-known lingerie brand, Intimo, whose soul mission is to make women feel good, every day. Cathy is an expert bra fitting specialist, who understands the beautifully diverse range of body shapes, proportions, breast types, life stages and personal preferences of women.
Nowadays, she spends most of her time being a business mentor, mentoring and liaising with like-minded entrepreneurs all over Australia and New Zealand. When she is not working, you’ll find her spending time with her family and close friends, cruising around the waterways on her beloved boat, sipping red wine and indulging in good food.
Cathy believes that everything that does come into our life definitely puts us together and makes us the person we end up being.
She openly shares her lowest of low points and the highest of highs.
She is proud of herself for digging deep and building what has now done in her Intimo business. She knows it is all about aligning with your true values that helps to build success.
She says if you are ever not feeling the love for what you are doing to ask yourself these questions:
Why are you doing it?
Can you come back to you and ask your why?
What is the end game you have in mind?
And if it’s still important, then realign with that. And if it’s not then have the courage to say it just isn’t. And don’t be afraid to have a crack at something else.
And if you are finding it hard ask yourself these questions:
Do you love it?
Do you show up every day?
Are you there with 100% commitment?
And if it’s not there you need to ask if you can find the love again or is it time for you to make a change?
Raising three children who she believes are true pillars of society is one of her proudest moments and now her two beautiful granddaughters have opened her heart even more.
She also knows the power of self-love is what helped her to value herself enough to find her most perfect husband. And she is proud of the fact she is a kind and caring woman who cares deeply for others.
Cathy’s definition of self-love is:
‘Having an acceptance of oneself. Kind words to yourself. Taking time for oneself without guilt or reasoning. Not accepting other’s behaviours that do not align with my values. And being strong enough to say no.’
Cathy shares how much she is loving being a grandparent. And the love she has for her two granddaughters is paramount. She is super excited to share her wisdom and importance of self-love to these precious beings.
Her favourite quotes are:
‘Be somebody who makes everyone feel like a somebody!’
‘The women who does not require validation from anyone is the most feared individual on the planet!’
‘Turn your wounds into wisdom.’

SLP 78: Self Love Quicky – 3 Hormone Boosters To Get Out Of A Funk
Thursday May 27, 2021
Thursday May 27, 2021
There are moments in our lives where we can feel out of sorts, a bit blah or in a wee funk. It’s quite common and happens to us all, what’s not good however, is staying in that funk. In this week’s Self Love Quicky we look at three powerful neurotransmitters that contribute to our happiness and wellbeing and some quick tips to give each of them a boost along with my favourite essential oils to get out of a funk and back on top again.
1. SEROTONIN ~ MORE CALM
Sometimes bad moods and funks can happen when we feel listless, out of control, or overly emotional. This can happen when we feel overwhelmed and out of sorts.
Serotonin is a hormone and neurotransmitter that helps us feel balanced and contributes to our sense of happiness, well-being and state of calm. If you have low levels you might feel irritable or aggressive, have sleep issues, feel tired, have decreased appetite, experience nausea or crave sweets and carbohydrate-rich foods. Of the millions and millions of brain cells we have, most are influenced either directly or indirectly by serotonin – including memory and learning, and social behaviour. When your serotonin is not right, it feels like everything is not right. Research suggests that an imbalance in serotonin levels may influence mood in a way that leads to anxiety, depression and sleep issues.
BOOST YOUR SEROTONIN:
A fantastic way to naturally boost serotonin is exercise, spend time in sunshine and have a massage. You can also reminisce over things like looking at old photos or noticing your achievements, things that you have positive memories with. Some like to scroll through Instagram posts, camera roll on your phone or a box of hard copy photos. If you have a journal write down the things that have brought you the most amount of happiness, remind yourself of the things that make you feel good. You might notice you just revel in taking a nice long deep breath and you get the sense everything will work out ok. As you take deep breaths, notice the calm and you will now be aware that is the serotonin working its brilliance.
2. DOPAMINE ~ MORE PLEASURE
If you have ever been in that “blah” mood or have feelings of lacklustre, it could be a lack of dopamine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is released when we feel pleasure, get a reward of some kind, or receive a gift. It’s the chemical that helps us strive, focus and find things interesting. Dopamine helps us regulate our emotional responses and reactions.
Dopamine is the basis for hope. It engages our brain to look out for potential rewards, and to take action to move towards them. Dopamine is our biggest motivator for fighting bad moods and and controlling our emotions and motor reactions. Research has found that dopamine deficiency results in decreased enthusiasm and reduced motivation. It has been linked to Parkinson’s Disease and obesity and people with low dopamine activity may be more prone to addiction.
BOOST DOPAMINE:
There are lots of ways to create pleasure for your mind and body. Getting enough sleep, exercising, listening to music, meditating and being in sunshine can all boost dopamine. Another way to do this naturally and easily is by creating a bucket list! These can help harness the beautiful feelings of hope, curiosity and pleasure. List 50-75 Bucket List things you would love to do with time and money as no problem. Dream big and see how you feel. There are so many amazing things you can do in your life. Don’t ever forget that the best time to get started is in this present moment.
3. OXYTOCIN ~ MORE CUDDLES AND LAUGHS
Oxytocin is a hormone also known as the ‘cuddle hormone’ because it makes us feel loved and connected. It is grouped with the happy hormones known to have a positive effect on our moods and emotions. It plays a major role in human bonding, childbirth and childcare, helping mothers and fathers feel connected and responsible for their babies. It is when we have a really good belly-ache laugh that we release oxytocin so who is your one friend or family member that makes you fall into hysteria?
Oxytocin is crucial to understanding our moods. Oxytocin primarily is produced and affected by the people around us. Oxytocin is high at the beginning of a new relationship because our mind and body are working together to make a bond and connection. It is also why other people can change our moods so greatly—either flipping us into a happy state or spreading negativity and we allow it to effect our mental state.
BOOST OXYTOCIN:
There are a number of ways to boost oxytocin including yoga, listening to music, meditating, having a massage and spending time with pets and friends. The best way to help boost your oxytocin is by tapping into your support network. The moment you are feeling in a funk or in a bad mood, think about someone who can boost your oxytocin. Specifically, who’s the person who makes you belly-ache laugh? Who’s the best listener? Who would you love to have a meal with? Who can you hug? Call in the team! Not only are moods infectious, but they also can produce that warm and fuzzy feeling of belonging and connection! And let’s not forget the power of positive intimate relations too!
BOOST YOUR HAPPY HORMONES AND COME TO THE ESSENTIAL SELF-CARE WEEKEND
“We live in a world where everything is moving so fast, it can be easy to get swept up in what is happening outside of ourselves and forget to take the time to care for ourselves. This is an essential step if you are to realise all you can be, leave stress and reactive behaviour behind and experience the fullness and delight life is meant to be. Be kind to yourself.” – Kim Morrison
I would love to meet you in person for this weekend immersion event where you will learn many ways to boost your hormones, immune health and wellbeing. Click here for more information.
GUT HEALTH:
And let’s not forget he state of your gut health affects almost every physiological process in the human body. An unhealthy gut causes hormonal disruptions and chronic inflammation which can precede serious diseases such as diabetes, obesity, depression, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, cancer and a number of other illnesses. If you are concerned or would like to know more around the gut microbiome and gut health then there are a number of amazing people who specialise including:

SLP 77: Finding Your Extraordinary with Mike Drohan
Tuesday May 25, 2021
Tuesday May 25, 2021
“I guess where I got to was, look I can probably be a bit of a conduit to sort of get people inspired about these, pursuing their passion quests and passion projects which for whatever reason often fall to the wayside, we get busy, we have kids, we get into careers that feel like they’re so extremely important and all-consuming that we forget the little simple pleasures of life.” Mike Drohan
If you have found yourself feeling like life is on a never-ending treadmill, that you are doing the status quo, have lost your mojo or feeling like you have lost your purpose and passion then you are going to love this conversation with Mike Drohan. It’s Mike’s firmly held belief that finding your extraordinary is a critical ingredient in the mix required to shift people from ‘wishing they were doing their epic’ to ‘doing their epic stuff’. Get ready to level up and step into your extraordinary.
Mike shares his experiences and ability to step up and into living his dreams. And here are 3 of his North Stars to Live Your Passion:
Finding and living your extraordinary way is a process, sometimes a challenge
It’s ok to switch grooves, change is good for us and it’s important to give yourself permission to do so.
Action makes you feel good, planning and thinking is important but doing things is where you feel better
Mike shares how he took a plunge by asking one of his greatest mentors, someone he almost idilised, to be interviewed and that simple question was answered with a yes, lead him to start his own podcast ‘Doing Epic Stuff’.
He believes there are many reasons to be inspired to root for people you look up to which includes their ability to be human, their culture and identity, their inspirational approach to food and diet, their constant desire to experiment in life as well as the personal and business synergy. Keep finding souls to inspire you.
Constantly revisit your why, your purpose and redefine your reasons for doing what you do. It’s important to make time for internal review as it can pay dividends. Look at your outcome vision, it doesn’t have to be huge or too far away. And do this often.
Ask yourself how can you effect positive change? If you are leading a lifestyle where you can do that you are going to feel pretty good. How can you amplify your own story.
An important aspect Mike shares is the management of your own time. How to take control of your time in workflow processes and habits.
Mike believes the definition of elf-love is pursuing your extraordinary and making the time to do it. It is about prioritising your passions. And if you are not sure what that is, it is anything that gives you joy.
Mike is on a daily mission: to empower more people to find and follow their extraordinary.
Why should/would he care, one might ask?
Mike’s been fortunate enough to live a life greatly enriched by pursuing his extraordinary things and, through them; experienced the sustained positive change (aka levelling up!) in all aspects of his own life.
This mission is the intersect of something he’s truly passionate about, something he can do best and something that will create positive change. If he can do all three and manage not to go broke in the process; even better!!
When I asked Mike what is he into this is what he shared:
Boot-strapping a charity event to raise $10K for Livestrong Foundation (yep; the same one that old mate Lance Armstrong was the public figurehead for before he got busted for systemic doping) in order to shortcut secure a ticket to limp pitifully participate in the New York Marathon.
Getting my but kicked Trained Muay Thai (The Combat Art of 8 Limbs) throughout gyms in Thailand.
Surfed survived some of the best breaks in the world across APAC and Europe.
Backpacked from Brazil to Colombia over 13 months (surviving multiple run ins with a severe peanut allergy along the way –oops!)
Boot-strapped a digital advertising agency (back in 2010) before I had more sense it was a thing…
Lived ‘La Vida Digital Nomad’ across 8 countries, 3 continents and 13 mobile sim cards whilst managing the demands of several major advertiser clients based in Australia.
Launched the Doing Epic Stuff podcast during a pandemic + an extremely soul crushing high stress professional role in the advertising industry
Coaching Girls under 11s basketball –‘what have I gotten myself into’
Mike’s favourite quote from Drake is:
‘You know you’ve made it when you are who you think you are.”
And finally, Mike says take control of what you want to do. Take the steps, put it in action, get started, get going. Spend time today or this week put it in the calendar that is blank. Make time for you for self-exploration and a passion lead life.

SLP 76: Self Love Quicky – Pine Oil
Thursday May 20, 2021
Thursday May 20, 2021
You only have to picture yourself walking through a pine forest to understand the qualities of this incredible essential oil. An oil of uncompromising will, endurance and strength pine has been used for centuries to help lift self-esteem and confidence and awaken one’s spirit. Here are a number of ways you can embrace its virtues and use it in your everyday life for more focus, clarity, strength, endurance and power.
The long needles of a pine tree indicate its direct power and qualities and this part of the tree is used in pharmaceutical preparations particularly for coughs, colds and flu symptoms. Blended with oils like peppermint, spearmint, rosemary, lavender or lemon make it one of the best expectorants, antiseptic and antibacterial oils.
One of the best ways to help clear the sinuses and phlegm from the chest is by doing an inhalation. Place 3 drops of pine, 1 drop of lemon and 1 drop of black pepper into a bowl of warm to boiling water. Place your head over the bowl, place a towel over the head, close your eyes and breathe these precious vapors deep into the lungs, nice and slowly for at least 5minutes.
You could use these same oils in a diffuser to keep any bugs at bay and help create a more pleasant antiseptic environment.
Pine has a very stimulating effect on the circulatory system and can be used in a carrier oil like macadamia or sweet almond oil with oils of lavender and wintergreen as a sports liniment. You can place 2 drops of pine, 2 drops of marjoram and 2 drops of grapefruit into a warm bath and add 1 cup of magnesium salts to help reduce muscle aches and pains, and tired muscles with a build up of lactic acid.
A very tonifying oil, pine is known to support kidney and lung function and help alleviate mental fatigue and nervous exhaustion. When recovering from a long-term illness or injury pine can help increase strength, resilience and endurance. One drop massaged into the kidney region is said to be a wonderful adrenal stimulant and support.
Pine, lemon and rosemary make an excellent combination when inspiration, clear thinking and new ideas are needed. Simply place 2 drops of each into a diffuser or vaporizer, take some nice deep breaths and focus on the outcome you are wanting.
One drop each of pine, lavender and chamomile into a shallow bath is ideal to support the relief of cystitis.
A special festive blend would include frankincense, myrrh, orange and pine and make a beautiful blend to use in a diffuser for the month of December.
Pine and orange are two of the best and most effective cleaning oils both containing d-limonene which is an excellent disinfectant and grease remover. Pine is often used in room fresheners, disinfectants, detergents, soaps and body washes given its amazing purifying qualities.
Think back again to the incredible pine forest. A place for inspiration, focus, clarity and clear thinking. Pine is certainly an oil you could use in meditation and prayer.
Pine Oil Aroma Card quote says:
‘Feeling inspired, I go into today invigorated and alert, ready for anything.’
And the four words to remind you of the virtues of Pine are: stimulating, inspiring, soothing and warming.
Aroma Cards (a pack of 50 essential oils) is available when you click here.

SLP 75: Finding Joy In Nutrition with Sheridan Austin
Tuesday May 18, 2021
Tuesday May 18, 2021
“Mass media, TV, Instagram… this is what people are educated on. You know, be in that calorie deficit and that’s all that matters. And unfortunately if I didn’t go on the educational route that I took and the self-healing journey, I would still think like that because of what I was taught and educated on.” Sheridan Austin
Sheridan Austin is a Nutritionist who thinks differently to most. She is all about finding joy in your food and not sacrificing taste for health. It is making sure the whole food ingredients you choose are the ‘magic’ that feeds the trillions of cells in your body well. Improving your diet is not about deprivation and just because the ingredients change it doesn’t mean the menu has to. She is a phenomenal business-woman, practitioner and educator and one of the best recipe creators on the planet.
But her story was not always health orientated.
Amazingly, as a young woman, Sheridan was conditioned to believe that the multitude of symptoms she had were normal. Sinus infections, digestive issues, chest infections, asthma, hay fever, rashes, extreme fatigue, a foggy mind and so on. She lived off antihistamines, asthma puffers and antibiotics. She has always had a deep fascination, love and interest for food, but wasn’t sure why and what to think of it while she consistently exposed herself to man-made, packaged and processed foods.
This interest is what led her to becoming a Qualified Nutritionist and a Gut and Psychology Syndrome Practitioner. Through further constant personal research she has since freed herself from many of the symptoms that were robbing her of a life filled with energy, vitality, confidence and excitement.
The beautiful Cyndi O’Meara from Changing Habits employed Sheridan after she graduated and it was during these years her knowledge and passion expanded further. Sheridan Joy Austin is a well-respected speaker, recipe creator and writer. She constantly uses food as medicine to support health and vitality. Now as a mother of two young babes, a business-woman, retreat leader and practitioner Sheridan gives practical, easy-to-implement advice alongside her amazing social media presence where you will find incredible information and her delicious, healthy recipes.
Sheridan says it is food and its ability to nourish that is undeniably powerful at healing and rejuvenating the body. The many trillions of cells and microbes that make up our being is waiting to be nourished in every moment, to allow us to thrive.
The body’s intelligence is overwhelmingly intriguing and impressive, which is why she has a strong passion to assist those that have been told that their health will continue to decline or that they need to live with their symptoms forever. She believes nature has everything worked out perfectly, and if we become in tune with our instincts, stop silencing our symptoms and begin to listen, question everything and begin to love and respect ourselves, then the process can be enjoyable, and worth it.
In this conversation we talk about so-called nutrition in hospitals, what is given for sickness and to the elderly. We talk about the education, or perhaps outdated information given (some of it 150 years old), in universities and why there is such disparity and confusion in understanding real nutrition, health and wellness.
Sheridan talks about understanding culture and tradition, looking at palaeolithic ways and understanding the importance of ‘whole food eating’. She discusses the confusion and reasons why we have become so disconnected to this way of eating. It might be surprising to know that we are the only species that puts food last. We also delve into stress and the effects it has on our digestion and health.
Sheridan shares how to be a healthier version of yourself, and how we can show our families and partners a new way of being being an evangelist to make them change. She talks about her programs and her brand new amazing nutrient powerhouse food supplement ~ the Mother’s Essential blend ~ and how it is changing lives as it helps with all health and gut issues, hormones, pre and post pregnancy care, menopause and libido. You will want your own bottle of this incredible nutrient which you can get on the link below.
Her top 4 tips for taking better care of yourself include:
Take Mothers Essentials daily
Consciously nourish your body including greens
Sunshine and grounding
Get into nature
And finally, Sheridan’s favourite quote she shared: ‘How you live everyday is how you live for life.’
If you can look at making changes every day, this is how you can change your life.

SLP 74: Self Love Quicky – The Hero’s Journey
Thursday May 13, 2021
Thursday May 13, 2021
We all go through stages and phases in life. We all experience adventure, hardship, challenge and growth. One of my most favourite ways of viewing the stages in each of our lives is seeing it through the eyes of what Joseph Campbell describes as ‘The Hero’s Journey’. In this week’s Self Love Quicky I share a brief overview of what this journey looks like and how you can see your own life cycles with you at the centre of it… the main star… the hero!
In its basic form, The Hero’s Journey follows the archetype called The Hero on his journey to achieve great deeds. All the different points on his journey is what creates the framework. The journey is divided into three parts:
Departure
Initiation
Return
This is a similar pattern to that of the Three Act Structure (The Setup, the Confrontation and the Resolution). However, while the Three Act Structure focus on plot points, the focus in The Hero’s Journey lies on the stages the Hero goes through.
That brings us to the 12 different stages The Hero’s Journey is divided into:
The Ordinary World
The Call to Adventure
Refusal of the Call
Meeting with the Mentor
Crossing the Threshold to the Special World
Tests, Allies and Enemies
Approach to the Innermost Cave
The Ordeal
The Reward
The Road Back
The Resurrection
Return with the Elixir
All of these stages are divided into the three parts I mentioned above. The first part, the Departure, include the following stages:
The Ordinary World
The Call to Adventure
Refusal of the Call
Meeting with the Mentor
Crossing the Threshold to the Special World
The second part, the Initiation, include the following stages:
Tests, Allies and Enemies
Approach to the Innermost Cave
The Ordeal
The Reward
The third part, the Return, include the following stages:
The Road Back
The Resurrection
Return with the Elixir
The hero’s journey is a common narrative archetype, or story template, that involves a hero who goes on an adventure, learns a lesson, wins a victory with that newfound knowledge, and then returns home transformed.
In The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell, a professor of literature at Sarah Lawrence College, unpacks his theory that all mythological narratives share the same basic structure. He refers to this structure as the “monomyth,” or hero’s journey. Campbell summarizes it like this:
“A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.”

SLP 72: Self Love Quicky – Managing Stressful Situations
Thursday May 06, 2021
Thursday May 06, 2021
Stressful situations can effect all of us in different ways. And the world is in one rather stressful situation right now. So depending on what you are faced with, where you are, what you are watching or experiencing and how you are responding to all of this will depend on your own stress response. I share my thoughts this week on ways that we can try to manage stressful situations especially as I am looking to the scenario unfolding in India.
The stress response originates in the hypothalamus deep inside the brain. The hypothalamus also processes emotions, memories, basic feelings and desires such as hunger, thirst, anger, panic and pain; that is, it processes both physical and emotional sensations. It makes sense that an event which threatens your sense of confidence or security — like losing your job or receiving news that your child is in trouble — can throw your body into the same response as a broken bone or a near-miss accident.
Under pressure the body releases hormones — mainly cortisol and adrenaline — both of which raise blood pressure and can make you feel as though your heart is pounding in your chest. Blood flow to the digestive system is reduced and blood supply to muscles is increased. This can cause nausea and that knotted stomach feeling. Adrenaline also stimulates the release of glucose and essential fatty acids into the bloodstream to refuel muscles and maximise reflexes. As blood pressure increases breathing can become shallow. Once the stressful situation is over the body returns to normal. It is long-term stress that can take a hold and upset the body’s normal rhythms and this makes it especially hard to bounce back.
There are different symptoms of stress such as:
Behavioural ~ eating too much or too little, increasing alcohol intake, fidgeting, fist-clenching, nail-biting, fast-talking.
Emotional ~ depression, listlessness, defensiveness, anger and mood swings, worry, irrationality.
Mental ~ poor concentration, poor memory, confusion, thoughts racing, vivid erratic dreams.
Physical ~ headaches, heart palpitations, cold hands and feet, teeth grinding, indigestion, rapid breathing, muscle tension, weight loss or gain, skin disorders such as dermatitis and eczema.
Stress Busters include:
~ Aromatherapy and using oils such as basil, bergamot, cedarwood, eucalyptus, frankincense, geranium, lavender, neroli, orange, rosemary and sandalwood.
~ Breathwork and good breathing habits
~ Movement such as yoga and pilates
~ Good sleeping rituals and quality of sleep
~ Visualisation and meditation
~ Music
~ Get into nature
~ Exercise and eat well
~ Laugh

SLP 71: Attaching Emotion To Things That Effect Us with Lilli Hay
Tuesday May 04, 2021
Tuesday May 04, 2021
“I’m listening for emotion as well. The things that really do effect us are the things that we’ve attached emotion to. So you know it could be a really traumatic event in someone’s life that changed them or caused an issue. But really so many small, small things that if you’re just describing them to someone they’d never really think that that would effect anything. But once you delve into the emotions of the situation and of the memory that’s really where you can gain the understanding.”
What a beautiful conversation with a remarkable young woman who not only suffered with a challenging high school life but found herself on a huge journey of self-discovery working through her illness. Thanks to her own first-hand experience and then listening to a podcast one day, she completely changed her career from psychology to hypnosis. You will not only be captivated by her youthful beauty but her remarkable intelligence and thoughtful insights. A must-listen for all young people wondering who they are and where they are meant to be going.
Lilli Hay is a Certified Hypnotherapist and Rapid Transformational Therapy Practitioner. Working from her office in Noosa and with clients all over Australia via zoom, Lilli is passionate about helping women overcome their limiting beliefs and step into their best life possible. After suffering from an eating disorder in her teenage years, Lilli saw first hand the life changing benefits of Hypnotherapy and it has been her passion ever since to help others using this incredible technique. Lilli specialises in eating disorders, body image and self-esteem troubles, anxieties, motivation and confidence!
Lilli shares her remarkable wins as a therapist and how she believes there are some wonderful tools available to us to heal past traumatic events and move forward from feeling incredibly uncomfortable to sheer freedom.
She shares her insights on realising what her parents went through witnessing her eating disorder. She advises that one size does not fit all. There is a solution for everyone. Open your mind to other possibilities for healing for your loved ones. You do not need to always be ‘on’ them. Have times when you give it a break and give as much love as they can take.
The theme of Lilli’s life is becoming more and more aligned with her business and honouring her work, practicing what she is teaching.
She talks about her career, the power of earning and money and committing to a process of self-learning and discovery.
Lilli’s work is literally changing lives and she offers therapy which can help in:
Anxiety
Self-worth
Body image issues
Emotional eating disorders
Attracting healthy relationships
Overcoming addition
Acquiring career motivation
Lilli talks about coming home to herself, her Northern Star and how her life’s work is fully aligned with her top values of wanting to help and serve others. Marissa Peer says the opposite of love is not hate but indifference. Self love is self-acceptance.
This beautiful soul discusses her journey with an eating disorder, her advice to support someone through this condition and that there is a solution for everyone and everything you are going through.

SLP 70: Self Love Quicky – This Too Shall Pass ~ Danny Morrison
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
Thursday Apr 29, 2021
How is Danny? A question I am constantly being asked as my dear husband, who is in India for the IPL (Indian Premier League) is commentating on the world’s best cricketers showcasing their talent in an 8-week tournament. Due to extremely high COVID cases, Australia and many other countries around the world have closed their borders to India, leaving many New Zealand and Australian cricketers, officials, medics and commentators stranded there. I rang him and decided to record our conversation!
In this candid conversation Danny shares how he is feeling, what is happening for him there in India and how the IPL is actually keeping this cricket-loving nation’s spirits buoyant.
Danny, who has been on the road since January 23rd explains what it is like to be travelling in these surreal times.
He says there are many in India who are truly suffering, and the hospitals are overflowing and under-resourced for such demands.
For all of those involved in the game, their life is different to most who are in India. They live in high-security bio-bubbles, stay in hotels that have strict covid protocols and are quite cut off from the rest of the world.
Thankfully Danny enjoys his own company but says he has to be careful not to get sucked into watching all the news channels. There are a lot of questions whether it is morally right to continue the IPL especially with such a crisis at hand. Is it being overplayed? Are there false perceptions?
With 1.4billion people living in India, it appears to be hitting those with respiratory issues the hardest. And therein lies the problem of being under-resourced, a lack of oxygen and transport issues to get to more remote areas to those in need of medical assistance.
Danny shares insights into how he and fellow commentators are keeping their spirits high amidst the fears, enjoying time with former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden for example and having a huge appreciation for the joy this sport is bringing to many, especially those who are suffering.
Danny shares his self-care rituals including his super green tonic from Cyndi O’Meara’s Changing Habits company and his beloved Twenty8 oils.
I asked Danny to share from his perspective how we keep our relationship front and centre even though we are constantly so far apart and how he stays connected to his kids and our family here in Australia and in NZ.
He says he is reminded daily of how lucky we are to live down under, that we really do not understand what places like India, Europe, the UK and Brasil have endured.
But Danny’s philosophy is simple… it is what it is. He shares his love for his mum and explains how he is grateful for having a greater understanding of a more spiritual bigger picture thanks to her.
He explains how he keeps his spirits high, knowing how blessed he is to do this work but also knowing he gets to come home (at some point). He also values how much he and all of those involved in the IPL are bringing joy to those in need.
‘You never know what is happening one day to the next, you just have to get on and not worry.’ He says to cherish every day and all moments. Keep it simple and make the most of where you are, however that looks. He lives by the ethos that this too shall pass. He recommends that whereever you are, that you take care of yourself, read inspirational auto-biographies, listen to great music and do not get dragged into the drama or believe everything you see in the news.
And finally, in Elton John’s poignant words ‘You should never take more than you give’, aim to get into nature if you can and do not take this precious life for granted.
I hope you enjoy this update and insight. I miss my hubby to bits so it’s a treat to hear his voice and share our conversation with you.

SLP 69: Being Congruent With The Man I Am – with Jamie Milne
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
Tuesday Apr 27, 2021
“What it’s given me, it’s given me the capacity to love unconditionally, to forgive easily – and people can have conflicted opinions about that – but I don’t hold… I don’t hate anybody, I don’t hold any grudges. And I’m very grateful to my mother for indirectly teaching me that. It’s also… my experience has given me the ability to reframe my life so I will look at things in my life that happened and I will think, how can I frame this to get into alignment with the man that I am, and the person that I am, and the way I conduct myself? My attitudes, my behaviours, my language, the decisions that I make. How can I reframe this situation? And I do that to ensure that I am congruent to the direction that I’m going in. And I credit a lot of that to my upbringing, to the absence of that motherly figure.” Jamie Milne
What a beautiful heartfelt conversation with one extraordinary soul. Jamie Milne is an internationally recognised endurance athlete, world record holder, boxer, surfer, author, speaker, personal trainer and phenomenal mindset coach, hypnotherapist and accomplished businessman. There is no holding back in this chat. We get to hear Jamie’s humble upbringing and how not having a mother in his life and alcohol abuse created the launchpad and reframe to be the man he is today. This is one of those interviews that makes you want to step up and reframe your life with power and passion.
‘Maturity is determined by one’s ability to take responsibility’.
Jamie talks about his dad, his incredible connection with his grandfather and his wife, Jamie’s grandmother Mary, family, love, life and wellness. He talks about the one conversation that had him create a charity and raise over $100,000 over a decade for Dementia.
He explains how to break down life into micro-bits whether it is a race, a challenge or something you want to do… He opens up how he appreciates how depression can kill after all misery loves company.
And how as humans how we do one thing we do everything. Jamie explains how we think creates how we feel. How we feel creates emotions. And emotions drive behaviours. There is real power in a pre-frame and re-frame.
You are what you eat… eats.
You are what you think… thinks!
Jamie has found his passion is helping to nurture people to gain resources and tools to be their best. What goes on between our ears and how we behave can be integrated beautifully.
Jamie was born and raised in Rotorua, New Zealand. After spending 7 years in the NZ Military, he branched into the fitness and wellness space and has lived on the Sunshine Coast since 2015.
As a young man, it was Jamie’s own personal quest for relief from a debilitating relationship with alcohol and food that compelled him to seek professional help to relieve his burden.
Through his own process, Jamie personally found hypnosis to be the most powerful method of treatment, so his interest in the field was sparked, and he quickly sought the best teachers to learn more about hypnotherapy. This interest led Jamie to become an upcoming expert in the field.
Jamie has since been a part of many clients’ journeys – anxiety, phobias, substance abuse including smoking, sexual dysfunction, undesirable spontaneous behaviours, bad habits, improving sleep, learning disorders, communication, and relationship problems.
Jamie knows that problems in our mindsets, irrespective of the experience, trauma or disorder, can be extremely debilitating, no matter how insignificant these problems may appear to others. One thing that Jamie offers in large quantities, however, is his own hard-won personal experience in breaking through barriers and taking control of the mindsets that limit our potential.
It has been through his own journey that he has been able to utilise these skills to conquer his own anxiety and depression, and now, with a personal understanding of these issues, is able to successfully teach others to address the causes of their problems.
Jamie has been trained via an internationally recognised Hypnotherapy governing body, a modality that has been thoroughly studied and tested. He insists on only using methods and techniques that have been proven effective by himself and other leading hypnotherapists. Jamie offers over 15 years of experience in self-help and self-development.
An internationally recognized endurance athlete and author of 12 Weeks to an Ultra Marathon (available on Amazon and Kindle), Jamie has pushed his body and mind to inconceivable limits.
Among his many accomplishments, Jamie has a current World Record for the most amount of burpee broad jumps and distance covered in one event (4267 Burpees across 8.5km in Cairns, QLD Australia).
Jamie recently attempted another Guinness World Record for 24 hours of non-stop strict pull-ups in 2018.
He has run the length of New Zealand three times, the United Kingdom twice (once with an 11kg backpack). He has run through Western Australia, circumnavigated Tasmania, and has achieved a 2000km distance running in 21 days from Melbourne to the Sunshine Coast.
Jamie has completed over 100 Ultra Marathons in excess of 50km.
Jamie has a diverse Military background from 7 years in the Royal New Zealand Navy, and most recently making his way through the NZSAS pre selection course as a direct entry, choosing to opt out and continue with civilian life.
An accomplished surfer, and an amateur boxing career spanning 26 years.
Jamie’s most recent endeavour was completing the world’s unofficial most difficult Trail 100-mile race, the Hurt 100 in Hawaii, in January 2019 for the International feature documentary Wairua Spirit, Of which Jamie exposes and dives deep into the non-tangible drivers of the human spirit.

SLP 68: Self Love Quicky – Mother Guilt
Friday Apr 23, 2021
Friday Apr 23, 2021
I have been pondering the meaning behind ‘mother guilt’ for some time wonder what it could really be about deep down. I mean, why do we call it mother guilt? And is it really even valid? What should we do about it and how do we drop it so we can get on with being a mum? In this week’s self-love quicky we open up the topic and dive deep into the layers that hold us back and stop us from being the best mum’s we can be.
I think for me if I’m honest mother guilt was more about me questioning myself, sometimes it was a little FOMO and at times I think it was more ego. I love being a mum, I loved it when my kids were little and needed me and I would not have swapped it for the world. I don’t think any Mumma would.
But let’s be honest the role of motherhood is also exhausting, often it’s thankless and, like most mums the guilt came when I questioned everything I was doing or not doing for my children, from what was right to read or watch on TV, to how I disciplined them to what I fed them to how I showed up for them.
They say you teach what you need to learn the most. I created work that I love, and I am honoured to teach women how to care for themselves and love themselves no matter how busy life gets. I discuss how to drop things like mother guilt and self-sabotage, how to value your role as a mum and prioritize self-care all whilst being the best you can be!! I loved my work, and I loved that it took me away at times. I still do.
But then there were times when I was away and I was not with the family and then I would find myself questioning what I was doing. I would think of my babes, or who was looking after them (often it was either my hubby, my mum or family) and then I missed them hugely wishing I could be there too, especially if they were sick or crying for me. It was heart-wrenching.
I always knew deep down though, that it was a good thing for my family (and for me) to know we could get through anything with and without me being present and vice versa.
Yes it was a juggle at times, and yes it was exhausting, but I wanted my babes to grow up knowing what independence and taking care of themselves looked like too. I was learning it all myself as I went through each experience and emotion. I also knew if I was educating women on this publicly I had to be the example not only to them but also in my own family. I had to walk my talk.
That’s why I’m grateful I created daily rituals where my own self-care was a priority. Often that meant it included the kids like bath time or walks in nature, after all the most satisfying thing to do was to connect within and what better way than to the Mother of all mothers… Mother Nature! I had to make all of my rituals a part of all our lives for me to experience them.
That’s why I love being an aromatherapist, that I would often use oils to support how we each felt and we used them to care for one another. I named us the awesome foursome! I always told my wee family that we were a team and if sometimes one member needed more care or help than another, including mummy, we would all step up.
Women at workshops taught me so much also. Teaching the art of self-love cemented for me that investing in my own personal development and writing books on topics like this gave me way more insight and clarity and less judgement for myself and of other amazing mums.
I’m so grateful I have had many opportunities to look at this the whole way through raising my children. I wanted to be with them all the time and yet loved not being with them all of the time too! It made me aware that any ‘guilt’ I felt was more about me questioning myself. Wondering if I got it right or wrong, that’s all. And the guilt only came if I felt it was wrong.
Motherhood is incredibly challenging and yet it is so deeply rewarding. Yes, the ‘guilt’ rears its head at times, it still does and my babes are adults now. But like I said it is often because I am simply just questioning myself.
There were times I just wished I could split myself into one or two or even three and be all things to everyone, at all times! Maybe that was a little more about FOMO and ego than guilt per se.
Either way my findings around ‘mother guilt’ is to let it go. It does us no good and if only mums could lighten up a little, forgive themselves more, be kinder to themselves and understand that the guilt only arises out of self-doubt, questioning or wondering if what you’re doing is wrong.
If only mums could realize the enormous impact of consistent daily micro-moments of time-out and self-care and how much that affects the family. After all, if the woman of the house is happy and healthy life runs smoothly for everyone else! And that means there is no room for any guilt whatsoever!
