SLP 103: Rituals and Routines for Mental Health with Leon Stensholm
Tuesday Aug 24, 2021
Tuesday Aug 24, 2021
‘The way I’m feeling now, I’m not feeling any better whatsoever, something has to change, something hasn’t changed. I’m not saying I’m going to disregard the grieving period of course, that’s an infinite time frame, there’s no real time frame for that. But what I knew was I had to get some goals in place. I had to get some plans. I had to get an action plan. I needed to get some routine and some rituals back into place immediately. I needed to just get back into the gym. I needed to get back eating, doing all the things I was doing prior that got me to a position where it just got me through the day. I needed to go back and simplify my life Kim.’
The impact of losing his brother and two close clients within a short period of time was so great that Leon has dedicated his life to suicide prevention. After his brother’s death nine years ago, Leon found himself at a crossroads with his own mental health. He has since become an advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention and actively coaches, counsels and inspires others through his business Body By Leon. A beautiful podcast with an extraordinary soul.
Leon Stensholm started body building in 2001 after suffering a number of injuries that would end his promising soccer career. It quickly transpired that what Leon lacked in muscle, was made up for in spades by the sheer grit and determination he focussed on his new sport.
Committed to natural body building Leon has now been participating in the sport for the past 18 years with multiple Australian and Australasia titles to his name. During this time, he has competed over 65 times, coached hundreds of clients with over 100 first places and multiple pro cards awarded.
Six years ago, following the suicide of his best mate and brother Dean, Leon decided to pursue his dreams and founded Bodybyleon Coaching and Personal Training. So committed to helping people to totally transform their body and mind Leon has also completed a Diploma in Counselling and written his first book, ‘It`s how you think’.
Leon operates from his gym where he trains, mentors and coaches’ clients, in one on one sessions that are individually designed for each client and completely private.
These closed training sessions are perfect for sports athletes and clients with public profiles seeking privacy and confidentiality when working out. Leon works with a wide range of clients, all with their own unique goals, from professional athletes to everyday people looking to achieve their personal health goals. Leon is particularly passionate about working with those who suffer from mental health concerns and gives his time freely to work in the community on suicide prevention, as part of The Alliance for suicide Prevention.
In order to get the best out of people Leon uses cognitive behavioural therapy methods and provides a framework in which they can work towards achieving goals and transform their life.
Leon is a passionate, energetic speaker whose enthusiasm and love for life is incredibly contagious. He engages and connects easily with all types of people and leaves his audiences energised and motivated.
In this podcast we talk about the importance of moving. There is no happiness coming your way without movement. This is where we release dopamine and endorphins. There is a power in exercising post grieving. It is about getting routine in place.
Suicide is happening everywhere. It’s up 9% on the Sunshine Coast. I need to stand up but I need to be stronger. Leon has leanred that being vulnerable is like going to confession, it’s super powerful. And we have to remember when your glass is full you have endless energy to give.
Reach out and have the conversation.
If you are interested in seeing more about the Portraits of Mankind there here is the link – https://www.thealliance.org.au/get-invloved/portraits-of-mankind/
Definition of self-love is that you cannot love anyone much if you don’t love yourself first. I’m big on the analogy of mask on plane. Invest in yourself first and foremost. Do my gratitude, meditation, write in journal, my music… I do it every single day. It provides endless love for me to give to others. When you fill your glass up so strong and it’s over-flowing you then have endless love to give.
Leon shares his love of music and Stephen Bradbury who wrote the fore-word to his book.
Leon’s favourite quote is:
Be kind – it’s free
Final message – remember things get better, it might sound cliché but they do with the required help and support. Just please reach out. Faith has that ability to know everything will be ok. Faith is free and the one thing you can hang on to. And it’s going to be ok.

SLP 102: Self Love Quicky – Essential Oils for Gratitude & Transformation
Thursday Aug 19, 2021
Thursday Aug 19, 2021
For many, this crazy time we find ourselves in; the lock downs, isolation and separation, is the realisation that it could be our way for some time yet. Perhaps now more than ever is a time to focus on the positives that remain, a time to go within and take some time to invest into your precious self. It is also a chance for gratitude and transformation, the possible discovery for higher potential. It can also be a chance to take a moment to be grateful for all that you have and all that you are.
A fresh perspective also gives an opportunity to create new dreams. It could be a physical transformation like a room makeover. Or it could be a planned dream holiday – maybe in five years time! It could be a weight-loss or body transformation. Or it could be a goal to start a new course of study, a family or that new business you’ve been thinking about.
Whatever you wish for as the rest of this year or as the pandemic unfolds, it’s a treat to know we have a special tool up our sleeve in the form of essential oils. These beautiful gifts from nature can help to bring a beautiful sense of calm and balance, inspiration and motivation.
One thing to keep in mind no matter what, is not everything is cancelled.
Sunshine is not cancelled
Spring is not cancelled
Love is not cancelled
Relationships are not cancelled
Reading is not cancelled
Naps are not cancelled
Devotion is not cancelled
Music is not cancelled
Dancing is not cancelled
Imagination is not cancelled
Kindness is not cancelled
Conversation are not cancelled
Hope is not cancelled.
I feel honoured to share two very special blends that I created around the power of gratitude and transformation. These blends have been designed for your diffuser. When it comes to choosing your own essential oils to express your gratitude and create change you could look at the following oil combinations as a guide and then feel free to experiment and create the blend that is right for you.
Gratitude Blend
Bergamot – 2 drops
Sandalwood – 2 drops
Grapefruit – 3 drops
Ylang Ylang – 1 drop
Pine – 2 drops
Bergamot is a light, sweet, citrusy oil that is uplifting, refreshing and a wonderful joy enhancer; Sandalwood, a beautiful woody oil that is incredibly grounding and calming with empowering and strengthening qualities; Ylang Ylang is an intoxicating oil that you only need a few drops to make a big impact, it is calming and relaxing, tranquillising and very sensual; Grapefruit is the oil for positivity, focus, clarity and trust; and Pine is for increased confidence, inspiration, stronger intuition and for enhanced worthiness.
Remember gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.
If it is transformation you are seeking then here is a wonderful combination of oils that could help you transition and grow into a better, stronger and even more capable soul.
Transformation Blend
Frankincense – 2 drops
Orange – 3 drops

SLP 101: Unpacking Your Story with The Unbreakable Farmer aka Warren Davies
Tuesday Aug 17, 2021
Tuesday Aug 17, 2021
‘By standing in front of a group of people and sharing your story and being vulnerable to that audience, it kind of leads to fulfilling my mission which is around creating awareness and education around mental health and wellbeing which is the first part. The second part is about inspiring conversations because it’s really important as blokes, but as communities, everybody in general, not just blokes, you know females as well. We all need to talk about this and not be scared to talk about our emotions, our feelings and how we are travelling. And then the third part of my mission is to enable and empower people to seek help in a safe environment that’s free from stigma.’ Warren Davies
Warren Davies is not your typical farmer! Or your typical man for that matter! At one point Warren was actually on the brink, someone who had hit rock bottom and was seriously questioning what life was all about. Thanks to what he calls his ‘two feet of perspective’ he chose to crawl up, out, over and through this moment and then a ‘chance’ invitation to unpack his story he learned he had something worth sharing and an ability to make a difference in the lives of others.
Resilience, Persistence and Determination are some words to describe Warren Davies.
Born and bred in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Warren was the son of small-business owners.
A leader throughout his Primary School years, this confidence was eroded once entering Secondary School, where he was subjected to bullying and not fitting in. His academic achievement began a downward spiral. This is where his skill of Resilience was developed a skill that would be called upon time and time again in future years.
In 1982 His family made the massive decision to move to the country and pursue his father’s dream of becoming a farmer. This gave Warren an opportunity to reinvent himself. A direction, a career path: he was going to be a Farmer!
Mentored by one of the best farmers in the district, Warren honed his skills and, by the age of 22, he had purchased his first farm.
The next sixteen years were to be defining years for him.
The harsh reality of being a farmer soon became evident: high interest rates, low commodity prices, flood and drought; all having an impact, but most significantly, was that on his mental health. These events all tested his Resilience, Persistence and Determination and had a massive impact on his young family, relationships and finances all culminating with the decision to basically having to walk off the farm.
Although with his skills, work was easy to find, managing large scale operations from Victoria to South Australia, it wasn’t the same, he couldn’t settle, he assumed that he had lost his identity because not only was the farm his career, it was his home, his life! In his eyes he had failed and carried the guilt of failing as a husband and father.
Being an avid reader of books, he searched for a better way, he began the journey of piecing back together his life, but the road has been long.
Now as a Keynote speaker, Facilitator and Mental Health advocate, Warren imparts his life lessons and pays forward his unique stories, their moral relevant to all ages, from the country to the city, a farmer or the CEO of a large corporation.
His message is simple and so very important at a time when stress is seen as normal, and depression is commonplace. Warren will change the thinking and behaviour of your most precious resource, your family, your people.
The key messages you will get from this podcast are:
Resilience, Persistence and Determination
Authentic Leadership
Mental Health and Wellbeing
Building Strong Communities
Developing Resilient Leaders and Teams
Community Recovery
Apart from speaking, Warren is a Husband, Father of 5, Son, Brother, Mate and normal bloke down the road, involved in his community as President of Kyabram P12 College, local football, netball club and mentor’s youth in the Mates program.
Warren is also proudly an Ambassador at Cottage By The Sea at Queenscliff a children’s charity offering camps and support for kids doing it tough from all over Australia while providing Inspiration, Fun and Opportunity in a safe and healthy environment.
You must hear this story. And share it with all you know who may be struggling or in need of help. Warren gives his tips and ideas on how to support someone you love.
We talk about covid and the impact on mental health and the need to stay connected. Warren suggests no matter what if you approach someone from the heart with no ulterior motive, if you stay connected, keep checking in and earn their trust and show your love and support you will help someone through their mental health challenges.
You will love it. And you will realise there is more to this farmer than meets the eye.
Please note of you need help you can reach out to the following numbers:
LIFELINE – 131114
BEYOND BLUE – 1300 22 4636
Warren’s definition of Self-Love is really becoming comfortable with who you are and accepting who you are. If there are parts of you that need working on like your mental health, you need to identify that. It could be your mental, physical, financial, social and relationship parts.
3 Lessons from Warren
Keep communicating
Stay connected
Seek help
Warren’s favourite quote is from Brene Brown:
“Owning our story can be hard but not nearly as difficult as spending our lives running from it. Embracing our vulnerabilities is risky but not nearly as dangerous as giving up on love and belonging and joy—the experiences that make us the most vulnerable. Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.”

SLP 100: Self Love Quicky – Celebrate The Law Of Precession
Thursday Aug 12, 2021
Thursday Aug 12, 2021
Today we celebrate 100 shows on the Self Love Podcast and I cannot thank you enough for being a part of the ride. After almost 7 years of podcasting and almost 400 shows with the beautiful Carren Smith and Cyndi O’Meara on the Up For A Chat show it brings me huge pleasure to share this milestone with you.
I know self-love may seem the strangest of topics or discussions to want to follow. But it is my experience and in writing The Art Of Self Love book that without a healthy amount of self-regard, self-care and mostly self-love, then we are missing out on the greatest reservoir of inner resources available to human kind.
I love this quote by Rajneesh.
Celebration is without any cause. Celebration is simply because we are. We are made out of the stuff called celebration. That’s our natural state – to celebrate – as natural as it is for the trees to bloom, for birds to sing, for rivers to flow to the ocean. Celebration is a natural state.
Today I celebrate the show and I celebrate you. We may only get around 5,000 downloads but it is each one of you that makes this show special. My greatest wish is that it speaks to those of you who listen and it is relative enough for you to want to share it with those you thin could benefit too.
One of my greatest passions is interviewing people, sharing their incredible stories and understanding what they have within them, what they do to get up, over, out and through the challenges in life and how they continue to show up for themselves and others. To me this is the real juice of life, the real magic. And thanks to Twenty8 Essentials and The Wellness Couch I get to share this with YOU!
One of the greatest ways to understand the impact of a little show like this is to understand the Law of Precession.
The law states that the Sun and the Earth are both bodies in motion. Despite the 180 degree gravitational pull of the in-motion Sun upon the in-motion Earth, precession makes Earth orbit around the Sun in a direction that is at ninety degrees- i.e., at a right angle-to the direction of the Sun’s gravitational pull.
Similarly, if we drop a stone into water, we get the ripples going out at ninety degree’s to the direction of the dropped stone.
This is better described by Dr Buckminster Fuller and one of his favourite stories regarding precession was the story of the honey-bee. Seemingly inadvertently, the honey-bee goes about his business of gathering honey. Precessionally, at ninety degree’s to his body and his flight path, his legs gather pollen from one flower and “accidentally “ take this pollen to the next flower, resulting in cross pollination. The outcome of this seemingly inadvertent accidental activity is that the bee contributes enormously to life on earth. Of the 100 crop species that provide 90 per cent of the world’s food, over 70 are pollinated by bees.
Back to the Law of Precession, it simply states that for every action we take, there will be a side effect. We don’t know what the side effect will be, just like the honeybee doesn’t know the side effect of making honey, but there’s always a side effect. Every cause has an effect.
Bucky’s favorite example of defining precession is that of the honeybee above. You know what the honeybee is, but you may not know that honeybees are vital to many ecosystems on earth. If they ever become extinct, humankind would soon follow.
The purpose of the honeybee is cross-pollination and the sustenance of life on earth. The honeybee doesn’t know that, but the universal purpose of the honeybee is cross-pollination. All the honeybee knows is they are making honey, but as a result, they make more flowers at the same time.
Do you think they know their true purpose and do you think that they are driven to save the world by making honey? I don’t think so. They are only drawn towards making the honey and going back to the hive, but as they move from flower to flower, their body and their legs accidentally gather pollen, which then results in cross-pollination and fertilization of more flowers.
So the question I ask in this week’s podcast is what is your true purpose?
I ask myself what is the purpose of the Self Love Podcast? And to be honest my purpose is to share remarkable stories, people, oils, tips and ideas around taking care of the most important asset you have and that is your health and a purposeful life for YOU!
I hope you’re enjoying the ride as much as I am. High fives to us!

SLP 99: Don’t Be Afraid To Be You with Chris Jordan
Tuesday Aug 10, 2021
Tuesday Aug 10, 2021
“I think in a way it is, it’s not being afraid to bring out who you really want to be. And what you really need to share. Because we’re scared of judgement and a lot of times we are going to be judged by other people. And we take that extremely personally. It’s not exactly about us. It’s more about that other person because they’re projecting their own judgement onto you. But I think a lot of the time it’s fear of judgement. And it probably links back to what we were just talking about in that, that locks us up and it stops us from being or acting how we truly want to be.”
If life is challenging, know that it is not unusual. Everyone goes through challenges. Even if it is unravelling in front of you, the point of Chris Jordan’s work is to see if you can get curious about what is happening and what it is there to teach you. Chris says don’t be afraid to be you, dont be afraid that you wont come out the other side because you will. One of the big questions we investigate is ‘How can we understand true happiness when we don’t choose to understand true sadness?’ You are going to love this conversation with one of the world’s most precious and clever souls.
Whatever we go through without undermining the challenge or pain, it is indeed purely a perception of what you are going through.
Chris shares a story about how the work he does helped a client who was carrying a lot of guilt over a lot of years. There was an unconscious part of him that he did not feel he had any control over. He procrastinated and was not present with himself or others. This guilt was almost a sign of punishment, yet he was not aware of it at all.
One event made his life take a strange turn. An event that occurred many years ago kept snowballing and attracting more of the same. It was only through hypnotherapy and different processes this guilt was let go of which was hugely profound.
Chris loves to see how the unconscious mind is running and how we can shift things at an unconscious level, as this is where he believes the magic of change really occurs.
Chris also believes it is important to have awareness outside of your sphere. The power of a coach is where people get to take their life to a whole new level. And to understand this we just need to see a little more about this special man.
Chris Jordan grew up surrounded by a lot of chaos and uncertainty. It took him a long time to realise that the roller coaster lifestyle he had adopted wasn’t the only way to live. He himself had had enough of the pain.
At 27 he turned his life around and truly became alive.
He now works with individuals and couples to create a better understanding with themselves. Bringing awareness to their own unique process and what’s trying to unfold. Through extensive training in hypnosis and other psychotherapy and working with clients on many different levels he helps people to feel free, break through the illusion of being stuck and get out of their own way. Allowing them to do what they are truly here to do.
A father of five amazing children and a multiple business owner he has worked through his own process and education and realised very strongly that our external circumstances do not determine how you feel or who you are. It’s your relationship with self that allows you to get the most out of life. Everyone deserves to know and experience that inner knowing, that powerful feeling!
Chris talks in this interview about the sadness these days of going through challenge and not having enough wiser, older more understanding souls to turn to. He believes we have lost the elders and tribal way of living where we naturally had mentors to give us new perspective, love and understanding.
To grow, he believes it is great to introduce something new. And a Coach can bring new awareness that is outside the field, allowing you to stretch your thinking that maybe you hadn’t considered before.
We talk in-depth about the schooling system. Money, relationships, mindset, spirituality and our innermost self and what things are quite possibly missing.
But Chris believes our schools are there to educate us, to enable us to be academic to learn to read and write to get a certain perspective on the world, practical skills. He thinks the parents are so so important in being the coach for their children. He talks about 30 kids to one teacher. It’s not really a scenario where you can have those unique conversations. He believes it needs to happen more at home.
It’s not always clear what is right or wrong for each person. We grow through school and challenge so profoundly. You get an education and then it is up to you what to do with it.
Most of the time we discover it is not about outside influences or occurrences but more so the inner knowing, how we are unconsciously processing them and then consciously allowing our inner resources to be accessed. Letting go of negative emotions from the past like guilt, shame, fear, sadness, conflict, anger and hurt can all block the ability to heal and move forward.
We talked about Danny being a part of the Portraits of Mankind and how tough it is for men to speak up and not have to tough it out. This highlights the importance of vulnerability and how to get out of our own way. https://www.thealliance.org.au/get-invloved/portraits-of-mankind/
Chris believes it is about not being afraid to be you. If you are bottling things up, suffering, (or even not suffering if suppressing your happiness when others are) it’s important to be yourself. When we suppress whether good or bad, shit starts to get real.
He mentions the movie ‘In Pursuit Of Happiness’ and recommends we do not marginalise or judge ourselves for whatever point we are at. It is part of the process and not just a destination. Life is powerful because of ALL parts of life.
How can we understand true happiness when we don’t understand true sadness? Gratitude is one of the most powerful emotions we can have. If you have had one setback after another and it feels uncomfortable, the greater the struggle the greater your happiness and positive emotion is on the other side.
Chris shares his thoughts around mental health and suicide especially for men. The Aussie culture of just suck it up and the tall poppy syndrome is compounded with the fact men do not talk as much or are as social. A lot of men do not talk about their innermost feelings as much as they could, or maybe, should. We talk about how to guide the people you love when you want to reach out and help if they are struggling.
Chris’s definition of Self Love is: Acceptance. It’s about accepting who you are. Accepting what’s happened to you and your processes. Not marginalising it or judging yourself but saying hey, this is it, this is who I am, this is who I am in this moment at least. We are always evolving and accepting where you are at, what you have done or haven’t done. Knowing that we are all flawed in some areas and you may never fully have it all together. Allow yourself ot be present in moments. There is more in it for you than you think. Life isn’t about getting it all right, it’s an experience. It’s all about acceptance.
We talk about Chris’s role as a father of 5 kids and what it means to him to be a dad. How he has navigated the split with his first partner and mother of 3 children. He said it may not be the scenario you’d want but its amazing. He loves what he learns from his kids.
The roles that we parent’s play is so hugely important. He is a very involved father.
His advice to his kids would be to live your life! To know yourself, understand yourself but don’t take it too seriously either.
Don’t take life too seriously. There are some serious parts of it. But we take it a little bit too personally and a little too serious. Don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself when you completely screw it up! Don’t get taken out by making a mistake. Find what you can take from that thing. See what’s unfolding for you.

SLP 98: Self Love Quicky – 5 Cornerstones To A Great Business
Thursday Aug 05, 2021
Thursday Aug 05, 2021
It might be easy to say you have a ‘good’ business, but there are practices that can make you say you have an ‘amazing’ business. These 5 simple but powerful cornerstones may be a great reminder through the challenges and also why you got into business in the first place . To know that 60% of all businesses stop their operation within the first three years speaks volumes of how challenging being in business is. If you know someone in a small business give them a shout out and let them know you care!
1. Have fun
Being in business is not always easy. Some days it can be down right challenging. Creating fun, or making sure you do something fun, especially when it is tough, is a sane way to stay on track and hold onto the reasons why you do what you do.
2. Passion and integrity
Living your passion is actually a dream come true, yet it is denied to so many. If you stay connected to the original reason you started your business you will realize how blessed you are. It is this deep passion that will carry you through the challenges and keep you humble with the wins. Integrity feeds this passion. It’s about how you feel about yourself, how you portray yourself to the world. It means staying true to your word, sharing your values openly and honestly. It’s being able to go to bed at night knowing that although you might not be perfect, you might make mistakes and you might struggle, that you have given your heart and soul to the business and everyone involved in it.
3. Your team is your greatest asset
A happy team means happy customers, which means a happy environment, and a happy business. Your team is a reflection of you and if they believe in your why, in your vision, mission, purpose and core values, and they are happy, they will represent you in the most profound and powerful way. They will be there for you when the chips are down, they will rise above when least expected and they will make you laugh. Even better, they support you to do well. And when you are doing well they are doing even better.
4. Love your customers
I remember hearing a well-known author say she was indebted to every single person who bought her book. She said she always makes an effort to speak to anyone that she signs a copy for, because it is thanks to them that she has a beautiful home in a beautiful part of the world. I love it. Your customers are gold. Taking a moment to speak to them personally, staying in touch with them regularly and sharing a little bit of you makes them feel like they are friends or indeed part of your family.
5. Share yourself
The more you give the more you receive. Share your knowledge, ideas, formulas, successes, failures… share all you can and feel the energy you receive. Sharing is one of the most likeable attributes I see in business. When we come from a place of creation and not competition everyone succeeds.
THANKYOU to everyone of you who support me here in this podcast, in my Twenty8 business or in my Kim Morrison Mentorship training and coaching. It is an absolute honour to walk this path with you.

SLP 97: Let’s Rise, Contribute and Help Others with Zoë Sparks
Tuesday Aug 03, 2021
Tuesday Aug 03, 2021
“People will gravitate towards things at different times. Depending on when it’s relevant for them, so I do believe that your community, or your tribe or supporters will find you, and support you and that’s important. And I also think it’s really, really important to constantly be giving back. And so, I guess that’s why I love what I do with SHINE business-women. It’s not technically a not-for-profit organisation but literally everything we do we just aim to draw even because it’s all a case of ‘let’s give back, let’s contribute and let’s help others rise’, because I’m a firm believer if you help others to rise, well then you will rise as a result, you will benefit from that, you will develop those friendships and relationships and they’re so important.” Zoë Sparks
The last 18 months has been undeniably tough for this super star travel agent and event organiser. Who would have thought the world would be brought to its knees in such a difficult way. And every time there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, it’s devastatingly clear it’s not and the whole industry is catapulted back to ground zero. Zoë Sparks, travel agent and event organiser, talks about the importance of community, tribe and the power of helping others as well as asking for help if needed.
Zoë Sparks has owned her award-winning travel, conference and event management company – Spectacular Events Pty Ltd – for the past twenty-three years. Spectacular Events delivers conferences, events, expos and exhibitions for up to 1000 attendees at any one time and also offers group travel packages and options for schools, clubs and major events.
Zoë describes how her industry may not recover from this for a very long time, if at all, and the world may never be the same. . Zoë does not believe we will be freely able to travel again until at least 2024. She believes travel will come down to a vaccination passport or sacrifice travelling all together even though she also believes there should also be freedom for all.
We have never had our hands so tied before and not been told we cannot do things. It’s a big challenge for so many.
It is a global world where we perhaps took travel for granted. We used to be able to just jump on a plane and within 24hours you could almost be on the other side of the world.
Zoë believes there are two views where many are up for getting up and getting on and there’s another group who are fearful of what could happen and believe border closures are the best way to beat this. And she says maybe both sides are right.
We delve into parenthood and how this pandemic has affected our younger generation especially those who were celebrating final years of school or Uni.
Recognised twice as a QLD Telstra ‘Business Woman of the Year’ finalist and also a winner of Sunshine Coast Outstanding Business Woman of the Year, Zoë has a proven track record for success and achievement. Zoë’s experience in small business is not only as a business owner but also as a franchisee, Board and committee member (companies and not-for-profit organisations) and volunteer.
Zoë is passionate about ‘women in business’ and reward and recognition which has led to her authoring three small business books sharing the tips and tricks she has learnt over the years, plus two books that feature the stories of women in business – SHINE’ing the Spotlight and SHINE’ing the Spotlight… The Journey Continues. The launch of SHINE’ing the Spotlight … UNLEASHED the podcast last year was also an instant success.
Zoë has pivoted in many directions and as an award winning business owner, entrepreneur and leader, she has a huge love around celebrating women and supporting all women in business.
Zoë is the founder of SHINE Business Women which was launched in early 2018 and is making a huge impact in the area of professional and personal development for women in business.
Zoe shared that not only are we worried about our business and jobs but women are also home schooling and supporting partners who were also working from home. Supporting everyone else meant many felt worn out, burnt out and exhausted mentally and emotionally. Social media means we see others succeeding and doing well. It is hard not to compare oneself and feel more broken than ever before.
This is where self-care is so important. Even something little to top one’s tank.
We talk about the lipstick indicator, sometimes called the lipstick effect, which is an economic indicator that suggests an increase in sales of small luxuries such as lipstick can indicate an oncoming recession or period of diminished consumer confidence.
Zoë talks about how she has had to be brave and also honest. That some days, even though she is mentoring others and supporting other people to keep going, there are some days where she is really struggling.
Since the pandemic she has put more energy into her SHINE business group and even decided to start a business hamper business. She describes how to stay buoyant and keep afloat through these tough times. She encourages you to keep doing things that make you reach out and keep connecting with others. Do not become a recluse, be prepared to ask for help and pursue what you love.
She has worked hard at building a profile to grow her business. You have to brave to put yourself forward. And then sometimes there are expectations from others where they think you are doing well. But as Zoë describes she too goes through the challenges. She believes it is about putting yourself out there, not worrying about the consequences and give anything a shot!
Keep growing and looking for opportunities she says. Do not be so worried about other’s perceptions and most certainly do not take it personally if it is not in congruence with your actions and beliefs. And constantly look at ways to give back.
Zoë talks about her SHINE business which stands for Supporting, Helping, Inspiring, Nurturing and Empowering women from all walks of life. She has a SHINE Podcast and a Shining the Light spotlight on women in the group. It is a way of connecting and bringing women together. Check out the links below to join and be a part of this beautiful community.
There are a lot of people who need help through these times and Zoë is always looking for ways to contribute and do things for others whilst bringing together a community, telling their stories and allowing everyone to meet like-minded people.
Zoë’s definition of Self Love is ‘I think self-love and self-care is doing things for yourself, even if it’s something small every day and looking at what you can fit in. I know I go through different stages of eating well, exercising and then there are times when I am flat tack and don’t have as much time.’
Zoë loves real books, pampering herself and taking time out. As she is getting older it is really about focusing on going out and having a healthy walk in the morning as it allows you to get clear and focused. She loves to write and read and channels herself in that direction to get away from the work buzz to relax and breathe and enjoy that quiet time.
She says it’s important to appeal to your senses with your Aroma Mists, a cup of tea and a good book!
Zoë talks openly about married life and raising her two boys. She knows she is very independent and has raised them to be independent. She has remarried and talks about the challenges as things have changed. She is proud of each of her boy’s qualities. Lovely traits you hope your son will have but she loves how they have a lovely gentle side too and a kind heart. A close bond is so important to her. Her two boys are her biggest achievement, and she could not be more proud.
She says it is important to follow your dreams and what’s more important is that you take action. Write your goals and dreams down. Taking little steps towards making it happen.
Focus on things, believe in yourself and channel for it to come true. Yes, there will be obstacles but it’s important to make the best of every situation.
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and give things a go.
Favourite quote is: If you always do what you’ve always done, you will always get what you’ve always got.
We are here to live an amazing life and sometimes we have to push ourselves. Change is scary but it’s also great. This will help you to expand, grow and learn and to leave a legacy.

SLP 96: Self Love Quicky – Apology & Forgiveness Rituals
Thursday Jul 29, 2021
Thursday Jul 29, 2021
In every meaningful relationship whether it is with family, children, friends, lovers, co-workers, or neighbours, there will be great times but also the times when things are not so great. Precious relationships are worth holding on to and they require work on all levels. Everyone at some point will find themselves saying sorry or needing to find ways to forgive and move on. That is of course, only if you really want the ‘meaningful’ side of relationships.
Why is it then so many struggle with apologising and forgiving? Perhaps it is ego. In any conflict situation you can be sorry for the outcome or the pain it has caused. Saying sorry from this angle can be incredibly relieving for all parties concerned. Not saying sorry is not about winning. Often the winner is the one who can say sorry. We have a ‘sorry ritual’ in our house. If someone does something wrong or hurtful to someone else part of the consequence is what we call a ‘full apology’. It goes something like this:
‘I, Kim Morrison, apologise to you, Daniel Kyle Morrison, for putting you down thinking you should know where the keys to the car were! I didn’t mean to hurt your feelings even though we found them in your jacket pocket! No matter what I am sorry and I love you.’ Ha!! In all seriousness the point is they have to say their full name and the person’s full name, they must say what they are sorry for and what it created, and they must always finish by saying ‘and I love you’. It certainly gets the kids thinking twice knowing they have to do the full apology! Hopefully it is also teaching them that it is a wonderful skill to have the courage to apologise. And don’t think this is just for the kids. Our whole family has to live by the full apology ritual! And our two beautiful children remind us often!
Saying sorry to yourself is another important component of self-care and perhaps the same ritual should be taken on when you knock or hurt yourself. So often we say mean things to the reflection in the mirror, or constantly berate ourselves for not being good enough. Saying sorry as if you are apologizing to someone else but actually putting your full name in there would be a wonderful ritual as well.
‘Never does the human soul appear so strong as when it foregoes revenge, and dares forgive an injury.’ E H Chapin
Forgiveness is the other vital ingredient to any good relationship. Learning to forgive and asking forgiveness is what allows love to truly flow into your relationships and part of that is also learning to forgive ourselves. Holding onto guilt, anger or resentment does not serve us in any way. In fact it just blocks us from receiving love. Understanding that we are all human and we do all make mistakes, allows us to realise that we are all learning, and when you learn you naturally make mistakes along the way.
‘Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future.’ Paul Boese
When you forgive you let go of the anger and hate and you see it for what it really is — someone (or you!) just mucked up, whether intentional or not! And that muck up, big or small has created a problem that can now only be resolved by forgiveness. By remembering the misdeeds of others or ourselves we live in a critical and judgemental mindset. Through forgiveness comes freedom for all, and that lifts a heavy weight off your own shoulders.
‘Forgiveness is the scent the violet emits onto the heel that crushed it.’ Anon
I love this quote. It is stunning and so true. There are times in life where hurts are done that will change relationship forever. Just because you forgive doesn’t mean you will have a close relationship with that person anymore, and you may never be able to forget the hurt that was felt at that time. Yet you can let go of the resentment and anger towards that person, and let it turn to pity as you see their hurtful ways as a reflection of just how lost they are. In the amazing book called The Shack , by William.P.Young, he says “Forgiveness is not forgetting but being able to take your hands off the throat of that person”. So true.
Forgiveness frees you. It allows joy back into your life. Letting go of resentment affects every area of your life, especially your health. Life is too short to live with hurts and anger — let it go and set yourself free.
‘To forgive is to set a prisoner free, and discover that the prisoner was you.’ Lewis.B.Smedes
It is easy to create happy and celebratory rituals but creating apology and forgiveness rituals are just as important, maybe even more so, especially when it comes to our own health and mental well being. Give it a try!

SLP 95: If Not Me Then Whom with Dr Scott Wustenberg
Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
Tuesday Jul 27, 2021
‘In fairness and open disclosure, I have definitely had my moments of pity party, you know… I’m very normal like everyone else. There’s been some hard moments. You know, finger painting poop on the wall or on the television screen. The kids cut into the speaker cone when things were at their worst. My kids are a little bit alphabet soup. My youngest has a diagnosis of ADHD and asperges. So you know, if not me then whom? Is really a very driving force behind everything I do.’
With a number of huge challenges as a young man, not only with his own state of health but also in future years with his three daughters, Scott is not someone to lie down, let it all happen and accept what is. Education is key. Dr Scott Wustenberg, is a chiropractor, medical nutritionist, bio-chemist and physiologist. This extra special human has a philosophy that things can change, you don’t have to accept what hand you seem to be dealt and everything is possible, you just need to keep going.
Dr Scott talks very openly about his three daughters openly and the challenges and lessons he and his wife have learned around their diet, epigenetics and brain neurology. It is the reason he is driven to do what he does.
Scott believes we are all sitting in a perfect storm right now, believing that civilisation is so wonderful and yet it’s probably the thing that is causing most of our troubles. But who wants to give up their nice comfy armchairs right?
We talk about the effects of technology on our neurology. How devices are affecting us. It is the activity of scrolling that is having the biggest impact causing the eyes to bounce up and down which causes an activation of the inner ear that tells your brain it’s moving which creates a disconnect and dysfunction. And the eyes when too close to screens are drawn into a conjugated space which has shown to release of a whole lot of cortisol into the system which drives an unconscious potential for anxiety. This complete lack of movement compared to many years ago our children are not having the same movement patterns including the near to far sightedness and musculature from climbing and running.
If you have poor tone in your muscles you will have poor tone and firing aspects in the brain and we can get a whole lot of brain imbalances that can lead to health consequences.
We are allowing our children access to things that may not be serving them and they are not getting the healing and detoxification time that happens when they sleep. The blue light can be very upsetting to this and the hormonal systems. Some will travel through this with more ease, but children are incredibly sensitive.
“I think all children need to learn music, martial arts, strengthen their bodies and practically, if at all possible, ban screen time and television prior to 8 years of age.”
We need to give greater credence to what’s worked for us for thousands and thousands of years to help our brains develop that give us physical strength. Need to look at things from a nutritional and diet point of view. You are shaped by what you are nourished by. It’s not just food and nutrients, its sunlight and love and connectedness and feeling we belong.
Scott talks a lot about the importance of nutrition, and you will love how in depth he goes into this much needed conversation. He shares what has worked for his family and nourishing them.
You are a Lamborghini not a Lader. Treat your body more like a high-performance machine. Scott introduces us to the concept that we are actually more like a car driving our bacteria around the world!
We talk toxins and how we need to be thinking big picture and not valuing money as the only productive output.
What is happiness… is a difficult thing to answer. It is not necessarily a good end outcome that we humans keep chasing yet we need to be going through all gametes and all emotions.
Let food be thy medicine. Sadly, Scott believes, we have a system that has almost trapped itself in its own brilliance.
To do the work he suggests you practice congruence. “If I am saying it to you, I need to be practicing it myself.” What routines and habits keep me healthy and in a better state? The idea of accepting oneself is critical. Accept and love me for who I am. I may not necessarily be the best version of me, but I can get up and I can commit every day to try and be the best version of me and keep working at being the best version of me and each day I go on and working at being the best version of myself. It is the journey and the commitment and the congruence and the integrity that matters. There’s no one thing but it’s the continued dedication and integrity and accepting the commitment every day.
You have to be in the work you have to live with accordance. If you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything. Scott shares his tips into being a dad or parent who lives with congruence, authenticity and honesty. Living your word, being there for them and allowing them to be autonomous people with boundaries.
One thing Scott thinks we are not doing well is teaching our children to suffer. Everything is hospital cornered to protect them. But to suffer allows you to move past things and grow. It’s ok to suffer and be hurt because you come out the other side a better more interesting person.
We deep dive into the topic of fear and look at the literature and study. It turns out that fear is the greatest causation of getting infected and shutting down the immune system.
Don’t fall foul of fear. Whatever is occurring is occurring. Whether there are agendas or not it doesn’t matter. What matters is reaching out to help and support and be kind to your direct family and community and tribe and expansion outwards. We need to connect as people. All the research in past 60 years shows that the human brain unconsciously views ‘other’ negatively, and it takes consciousness and being in the moment to overcome that. So, we want to connect we don’t want to separate. Get talking to people, love and hug… and boost our immune systems.
We talk about being ‘too clean’ and how our autoimmune response is directly attributable to what sort of bacteria they have. Scott talks about a gut vaccine in the USA. The state of the biome will determine whether you have a good or poor response to any vaccine. The biome has a lot to do with health.
When it comes to hygiene maybe tried and true seems to work well. New-fangled , which may be better in one aspect, might not be tested for long term consequences on our health.
To fill our self-love tank Scott suggests taking time for yourself. Time, self-acceptance, congruent and nourishment are critically important pillars that are most important for current moment. Once you are rock solid and ok with you, you can reach out. Harmonise yourself so you are not living in a fear response. Be calm and in the moment and congruent so we can connect.
There are only two types of behaviour – approach and withdrawal. We need to choose to be in approach response so that when people do approach you, you are accepting of it. In turn the world may become a happier, healthier place.
Definition of Self Love – For me it is the four pillars – nourishment is a really underplayed part of those aspects. What goes into you, it’s the thought, who you hang out with and associate with, how you connect to people, whether you smile to people. Emotions are motor patterns. If you don’t connect your facial muscles to drive certain motor patterns you can’t express the thought properly therefore you cannot express the emotion properly.
Take time for self and others.
Accept who you are and know you are what you are
Be congruent with your behaviour
Act with integrity
Commit and stay committed daily
You have to love you in a certain aspect, not gushy, it’s the things you do on a daily basis that make you here in this moment able to connect so that the world can become a better place.
My daughter drew a picture of a frog many years ago for us. It says Nothing is impossible, even the word says I’m possible.
Favourite quote is:
Everything is the brain, all that you are all that you express all that is happening to you is shaped and dictated to you by your brain. So if there’s something that your not enjoying it is an aspect of your brain creating your consciousness and that’s where you need to look for the solutions and the things to alter. SLP 94: Self Love Quicky – Self Awareness is the key to Self Love
Thursday Jul 22, 2021
Thursday Jul 22, 2021
If we’ve been stuck in the opposite to love, if we are in the throes of challenges and struggles, then we may be in the painful cycle of being ‘absent’ from ourselves, and we may be wondering how we will ever feel happiness or love again. Believe it or not, the minute we acknowledge our behaviour and become aware of what we’re doing, we’re automatically straight back into the power of self-love. It’s that easy!
When we become aware of things that pull us from the self-love, we can focus on what to do when we become present to what is. But what is it that has us missing the meaning of this presence, this mindfulness? When life and time passes us by and we feel harassed by the demands of family and work, we may feel that we are constantly making mistakes. We’re never present in the moment and there is just never enough time to do everything we ‘should’. We’re confused more than we are clear, we’re rushed, stressed, anxious, and maybe even feeling depressed. We’re convinced we’re totally alone in a busy world.
We could be surrounded by a hundred people and still feel completely disconnected. We beat ourselves up for not being enough for those we love, we’re irritable, withdrawn, and apathetic and can’t figure out why self-sabotage follows so closely behind everything we attempt to get right!
Phew……. There is a high price to pay for being ‘absent’ from doing the best WE can, to live the life we’ve created.
“The ability to look within through reflection and in-sight. It’s an in-side job.” Renee England
I hear people asking, “Is there an alternative?”
Imagine knowing our own mind, behaviours, and how it feels to truly BE YOU.
Imagine what it would be like to master the inner conversation so that above all, we were kind to ourselves, first and foremost.
Imagine having the tools to be able to stay connected to YOU, no matter what the outside circumstances were presenting you with.
And imagine knowing that the moment we do become aware of our thoughts, actions, and behaviours, we are back in the circle of self-love.
We may even recognise ourselves in any of the scenarios I’ve mentioned above, and in this podcast I will give you the top five signs of self-awareness and how we can spend more time in flow, and less time in fight or flight!
What I love about this journey is that self-awareness is the very first step in getting ourselves back into the self-love circle. That’s why it makes sense that we explore this powerful tool right here and at this point in this guide.
Believe it or not, the minute we acknowledge our behaviour and become aware of what we’re doing, we’re automatically straight back into the self-love. It’s that easy!
The minute you notice you are not yourself, feeling down, judging, or beating up on yourself, or using more negative language, you are ready. For when you notice, you are self-reflecting, and back in the circle of self-love. It’s that simple. Awareness is the opening, the beginning, the start of the healing.
To say that I am inspired by someone who gets knocked down and then gets up and on with their life is an understatement. I have seen many amazing people demonstrate their ability to get up again, in formidable ways, and it all starts with self-awareness. To arrest their own ego and bring awareness to the way they handle life’s events, there seems to be vital steps they all take. I’ve also added a few additional hints on how to begin assuming the ‘observer’ role in your own life, so that while you may not always get it right, you can at least be aware of what you can change to do it better next time.
Here are some more insights to support your own self-enquiry and awareness.
Step 1: Be aware of how you behave in all situations. Observe yourself for a week.
Bring your attention to your thoughts, beliefs, and habits. Create a relationship with yourself by listening to everything you say to yourself, how you respond in certain situations and experiences; watch how your habits may limit the choices you have as life unfolds moment by moment. There is no need to do anything about these observations initially; it’s enough to just have the awareness.
Step 2: Write down your reactions, behaviours and actions.
If needed, think what you could have done better. Once you have observed yourself for at least a week, take notice of, and journal your thoughts, beliefs, habits, and behaviours. Keep your phone or a notebook close on hand so you can jot down what you observe about yourself. Notice if your behaviours are contributing to the outcomes you are creating. Maybe reflect on what other outcomes could have been achieved if you had been more selective, conscious, and aware of yourself. Start by noting the kind of outcomes you’d prefer, and then work backward to the thoughts, beliefs, and behaviours you will need to develop to bring the new outcomes to life.
Remember that it is important to understand that the life you have created right now, is a result of the YOU that you’ve been, up until now. In the areas that you are not satisfied, the only way to effect change is to determine what you would prefer to experience in terms of outcomes first, and then to ‘build a new version of you’ in that area. We do this by working through ‘who’ we are being while we are doing what we are doing. Our thoughts, beliefs, actions, behaviours, and inner dialogue are the keys to creating change, and I’d like to invite you to spend some time, first in self-reflection and observation, and then, invest some energy into ‘re-creation’.
Step 3: Check in with your beliefs and perceptions. Do they benefit you?
Do we waste energy judging ourselves and others? Are we expecting the world to be a certain way, and when it does not meet our expectations, do we spiral into resentment, negative self-talk, and exhaustion? That incredible lump of grey matter between our two ears make is where all of our beliefs and perceptions lay. They are not necessarily true, right, or real, but when we relate to them like they are, we’re forced to judge the rightness or wrongness of ourselves and the world around us.
I’m not suggesting that we give up everything we believe, because that is not possible, but I am encouraging us to ask, “does this perception or belief work for me? And then FEEL how you feel when you act on those beliefs or perceptions. Does it leave you feeling happy and energised, or does it leave you feeling negative, heavy or tired?
Your inner world is completely determined by what, and how, you speak to yourself. When you swap your attention to focus on how you feel inside, rather than reacting to what is happening outside, you can make new decisions and choices that will bring you not only greater self-awareness, but greater self-love. By putting in the effort here, you put yourself back in the driver’s seat of your life.
Life has a way of sending you challenges and opportunities in order to continue growing and it is HOW you choose to behave in life that determines the outcomes you attract. Awareness = Attraction.
Step 4: Invest in a great exercise regime that demands your attention.
Choose to participate in activities like running, walking, yoga, or swimming, on a regular basis. It doesn’t have to be strenuous, as that is not the objective. The reason I recommend this sort of exercise is because most physical activities require your mindfulness.
Psychologists say that we spend up to ninety percent of our day on autopilot. When this happens, we are effectively not present in the here and now of our lives. When we live this way, it is difficult to be self-aware because we become so distracted with regrets, memories of the past, or anticipation and anxiety of the future. When the mind is so busy with chatter and noise, we forget to stop and breathe in our surroundings; feel the wind on our skin, enjoy the juicy crunch of an apple, or lose ourselves in the laughter of a child.
By giving ourselves physical activities to do daily, we give ourselves the opportunity to go into a mindful state and support our self-awareness at the same time. This mindfulness opportunity brings our focus into our body, mind and spirit, rather than what is going on around us and outside of us.
A great tip after completing the physical activity is to take at least five minutes to breathe slowly and/or meditate. I know this kind of stillness can be challenging for a lot of people, and there have been many times that my life has been so hectic that the thought of having to stop and sit still even for a minute has caused me more frustration than peace. It’s not always easy, but making the time to quiet the mind after moving the body will bring benefits you can only understand once you’ve done the practice.
Personally, I’m a huge fan of Transcendental Meditation (TM). I’ve been doing it for many years on and off, depending on the time I have available.
While my busy schedule doesn’t always allow me to do the full twenty minutes morning and night in TM, I always try to do something to soothe my mind. That could be a guided meditation by Dr Joe Dispenza, or my Podcast co-host Carren Smith, or I will spend a few minutes practicing being mindful; it could be watching the warm flame dancing beneath my vaporizer or paying close attention to everything I am cutting up for a beautiful meal. Restorative breathing using an aromatic tissue has been an absolute game changer for me.
You can take control of your life, and your mind, instead of allowing your ego to run the show. Regardless of any frustration or resistance you might have with meditation keep trying. This is you telling your ego mind that you are in control and you will create your life to be the way YOU want it!
Self-Love is your birth right, so it’s important you claim it. This starts with self-awareness and your willingness to look inside, quiet the mind and the body, and pay attention to how it feels to BE you.
Mindfulness = Self-Awareness.
Step 5: Create a rituals kit
This will remind you to bring your attention and awareness back to yourself as opposed to what is happening outside. Remember, you’re working on creating change in your life and it’s going to take a bit of effort on your behalf to do things a bit differently. Participating in consistent rituals will ensure that these changes taking place deep inside of you happen more quickly, and their effects last more permanently. My favourite rituals involve essential oils and include things like the daily body boost ritual and using a diffuser. SLP 93: What’s Great About This with Kurek Ashley
Tuesday Jul 20, 2021
Tuesday Jul 20, 2021
At the age of 12 Kurek Ashley began his dream of being an actor in Hollywood. Having the time of his life working in a number of films over the ensuing years alongside stars like Sylvester Stallone, John Travolta and Russell Crowe, it was during the filming of Delta Force 2 with Chuck Norris that Kurek was involved in a helicopter crash. Tragically, five of his friends were killed including his best mate Mike who he held in his arms as he passed away. This beautiful and emotionally charged interview is a game changer especially when Kurek teaches you to ask yourself in any given situation, ‘What’s great about this?’
Mike was the last guy Kurek pulled from the wreckage as it burst into flames. It was fully engulfed, but he knew he was not leaving his friend in there. Kurek dragged him into the back of a car, Mike was laying across his lap burnt to a crisp. Kurek gave him CPR and brought him back five times.
In the grips of despair Kurek explains that a part of Mike attached to him, he breezed through him as he passed. He saw Mike on a regular basis over the following two years. He shares an incredible out of body experience with his mate and how it felt touching ‘the light’ it was warm without temperature and bright without squinting. It was pure love. He now operates from a place of profoundness and true personal growth and teachings because of this experience.
We talk about catastrophes and tragedies that all of us have and the impact they have on us. I ask him why some seem to come out the other side and yet there are some who seem to get really stuck in the drama.
Kurek calls it ‘drama glue’, he says it’s because they tell their drama story. They get attention, they perceive it’s love. And they have to give more drama to get more attention, so get themselves into worse and worse situations to keep the story alive. But the real way to come out the other side of any circumstance is to ask the question…
‘What’s great about this?’
This helps us to focus on ‘more’, on what’s possible and to expand. This is what has helped Kurek to turn his life around and has been one of the greatest questions for change
You do not want to rob yourself of the emotions, just know it’s about the love.
We talk about if there is a magic formula to get through tough times. Kurek has been learning how to lean into these feelings and shares what he believes is the way up, out, over and through.
His mum’s last words were that she asked him to promise to have kids. He honours his mum and dad by living life to the fullest. But not at the point where it takes away the joys or experiences of life. He says he lives very present to the moment and not trying to change the things he cannot.
His first book ‘How Would Love Respond?’ has been to reprint seven times after taking four years to write it. He shares the magic in this book and how it has been a phenomenal success and best-selling title. The two most powerful words are I am… And this question This is another amazing and healing question to ask yourself.
We deep dive into past scriptures, we talk about the most powerful energy on the planet and that is LOVE.
Kurek’s definition of self love:
If you do not know God you do not know love because God is love. It is the natural order to love oneself. It is the only way we will evolve. It is self-discovery.
Investment even the word says – I invest in me – it is the best investment you will ever make. Work on it every day. Kurek’s daily power questions are:
What am I grateful for?
What do I love more about my son today than
What do I love more about myself than I did yesterday?
Do mirror work – convince the guy you are looking at that you love him.
It is an ongoing process that is always under construction. We are all a work in progress. It is about the Universe – the oneness of everything. You either evolve or dissolve. And we must remember we have not evolved to be perfect.
Kurek talks about his son being the most successful thing he has ever done. He wants him to know that the purpose of this lifetime is to enjoy it. If you can look back on it and say wow, that was amazing you’ve won. But if you spend time on working crazy hours or blaming family or looking at all the wrongs… you’ve lost, you have missed it.
Kurek believes there is only one formula for wholistic success:
Reinvent yourself and manage how you think and feel differently, everyone has fears and worries, but how can you think and feel differently to achieve success.
Set grand dream goals that give you the most amount of joy to experience and know that this will include the challenges. It’s actually not about the goal it’s about the growth whilst attaining the goal and that’s what the holistic successful person looks at.
Take immediate and consistent action, never set a goal that you don’t take immediate action on or else it just fades away.
Test and measure to make sure we’re on track to achieving that goal.
Network because if you’re not networking, you’re not working. A team is always more powerful than the individual.
Contribution there is always stuff about tithing as it teaches the brain about abundance and activates the law of circulation.
Follow through as the fortune is always in the follow through.
This is the exact same formula for getting healthy and fit, to raising a child or for an Olympian, an entrepreneur to a stay-at-home mum.
You will love Kurek’s story about working with Natalie Cook and Kerri Pottharst who won the gold medal at the Sydney Olympics and how this formula can apply to your own life.
When people screw up whether a top sportsman or everyday person, Kurek believes it comes back to a lack of self-love.
We talk about the secret formula in how to help yourself or someone else. Kurek says we all have empowering and disempowering habits and neutral habits. To be successful turn a neutral habit into an empowering habit. Turn a disempowering habit into an empowering habit.
It’s not what you do once in a while it’s what you do consistently. This is how you go from down and out to an inspiring holistic success.
He would tell his 15 year old self to have a good time, and that it will all be ok. Don’t miss it. Get over it. Remind yourself this is not your story.
He recommends you watch The Big Fish.
Kurek’s favourite quote is:
In order to fly you have to let go of the world you are holding on to.

His final message about how to deal with the world right now he has a strong message. He believes nothing has really changed in thousands of years. There is always going to be two sides, the majority and minority. Polarity means you cannot have one side without the other. Governments and religions have always controlled people through fear. When we live in fear, we become part of the problem. If you are afraid do all you can to stay healthy and be active to protect yourself. It’s not about what’s happening it’s what are you going to do about what’s happening. Focus on yourself as being part of the solution and contribution. Be the change that you want to happen.
Kurek Ashley is “The Transformer”. He’s one of the most in demand first class speakers and success coaches in the world. He is recognized as one of the premier experts in personal and professional development, self-discovery and peak performance.

SLP 92: Self Love Quicky – Ageing Gracefully
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
Thursday Jul 15, 2021
We are all ageing. It is an inevitable fact of life that one day you will be elderly, with skin to match. No matter how hard we try to avoid or counteract it, the ageing process constantly gnaws away at each and every one of us. But it does not have to be looked upon as a curse. In this week’s Self Love Quicky we talk all things ageing gracefully.
In some cultures ageing is a celebration, an acknowledgment of the years of knowledge and wisdom gained. Age can also bring that wonderful feeling of being happy in your own skin, an acceptance of yourself that allows you to be more open and accepting of life and what it has to offer.
Yet unfortunately this is not always the case. As a society we have become obsessed with looking forever young. It seems as if having wrinkle-free skin is a sign of success in life. So in order to obtain this ideal image we will do whatever it takes – from spending thousands of dollars on skin care products to injecting our wrinkles with substances to smooth and tighten, and even surgery to stretch and eliminate the lines.
Some women are convinced that cosmetic surgery has been the best thing for them. I know women who have had breast reductions and their health has benefited hugely, women who have had a very subtle eye lift and it is true that their eyes have taken on a whole new look.
From a holistic point of view, however, I would encourage you to investigate the best options for your body, the best procedures available and the best doctors who have total regard for your health, not your pocket. As you may be aware, there have been many horror stories regarding ‘beauty enhancement treatments’. Be mindful some may be detrimental to your health, so investigate fully before embarking on any kind of cosmetic surgery.
Wouldn’t it be great if companies selling cosmetic and beauty products eliminated words like ‘anti-ageing’? Instead of making us feel bad about the way we look, imagine if they included factual information like ‘optimum skin nutrition’ on products.
Ageing is a natural biological process we experience as each year passes. And it is no wonder that the years take their toll, especially with exposure to environmental conditions, pollution, air conditioning, different types of diet, even lack of sleep.
Over the years wrinkles develop as a result of damaged supporting tissue in the dermis. Two protein fibres – collagen and elastin – give the skin its elasticity and resilience and also store water. Skin starts to age when these fibres lose these important qualities. Sebum production slows, the skin is drier and tiny capillaries below the skin close off, which means the skin receives less oxygen and minimal nutrients. The cell renewal rate also slows, therefore the development of new skin cells takes more time and older cells remain on the surface for longer. The result of this simple process is older looking skin, showing visible creases and spots with gravity taking a firmer control.
However, it is not all bad news. If we place a greater emphasis on reducing stress, a healthy diet, plenty of water and fresh air, skin protection, regular exercise along with plenty of sleep and relaxation – then we are giving our body the best chance to grow older more gracefully.
Remember age is just a number. Laughter lines, fine lines, even frown lines characterise who we are. They do not mean it’s time to make an appointment to go under the knife with a surgeon. I have met women of all ages (wrinkles and all) who radiate energy, vitality and beauty. They say growing older is growing wiser, it is loving yourself and accepting who you are. Attitude is the key. It plays the most significant role in how you regard yourself as you do age.
Remember, your skin grows from the inside out. Cells renew and replenish from the basal layer in the dermis (the bottom) right up to the epidermis (the outer layer). So it makes sense to not only nourish and protect from the outside with good products and skin care, but nourish from the inside through a healthy diet and lifestyle. Your skin acts as a mirror. It reflects your lifestyle, your eating habits, your drinking habits, how you deal with stress, how much sleep you get, your social habits, it even reflects your bowel habits! What is exciting is when you make positive, healthy decisions in your life, your skin reflects that too!
There are some easy and effective ways to build healthy skin. And it is never too late to start. No matter what your age is, treat your skin as though it was a baby’s. Nourish, protect, touch, and nurture it. Be grateful for it and take great care of it.
Here are some of the key tips you can adapt to create healthy skin from the inside.
1. Drink water
The body is made up of approximately 70 percent water, 35 percent of which is found in the skin. Water is vital to obtaining clear, healthy skin. Water hydrates and cleanses it from the inside. Remember that skin is the largest organ of elimination, so if your urinary system or bowel are under stress, your skin will take on its share of removing wastes. This may mean more blemishes, skin irritations or rashes. So support your body by aiming to drink around 4-8 glasses of purified water a day. Hydrated skin looks plump and it glows.
2. Eat fresh food
Nature has provided us with an amazing selection of vegetables, fruits and nuts. All are great for your skin, providing essential phytonutrients (nutrients found in fruit and vegetables), vitamins and antioxidants. I love the Farmers Markets for this reason.
3. Top up your essential fatty acids
You need fat in your diet, your skin would look lifeless and dull without it. Good quality fats like the Omega fats are the building blocks for healthy cells. So make sure you include these good fats in your diet. Good sources are fish, nuts, seeds, and cold pressed oils.
4. Cut down on refined carbohydrates
Excess sugar and refined foods such as cakes, biscuits and confectionery play havoc with your skin and can slow the whole body’s healing system. Limit your intake and make sure you include good sources of protein to help balance blood sugar levels that can lead to sweet cravings.
5. Exercise
There is nothing like a good workout that makes you sweat to eliminate toxins from the skin. The increased blood flow also brings nourishment out into the skin and encourages your skin to breathe. Your skin will take on that healthy glow!
6. Take an antioxidant
Living in our modern-day society exposes our bodies to a lot of stress. Stresses like pollution, excessive radiation exposure (sun and computers), inadequate diets, overworking, over-exercising, smoking, drinking … the list goes on. To supply your body and skin with optimum nutrition having foods with high antioxidant qualities that supply natural vitamins and minerals at optimum levels, and in a natural form as found in a healthy diet.
7. De-stress
Everyday stress is a part of life. But when stress turns to anxiety and worry, it starts to affect your health and skin. When you are under excess stress this affects your hormonal system, which often triggers skin problems and sensitivities, as well as lowering your immune system. Strain and worry is also worn on your face, so start to relax. Recognise when you need time out, and nurture yourself.
8. Get your beauty sleep
Sleep is vital to good health. During those hours you spend in bed your body goes about repairing damaged tissues, and there is a surge of your growth hormone, which stimulates cell renewal. There are also some studies, which show that a lack of sleep speeds up the ageing process. So flick off the tv and phone and go to bed!
To obtain healthy skin look at the whole picture: A healthy mind, body and skin all go hand in hand.
