‘I feel like crisis is built into our DNA. I look around at all the people I have ever had a conversation with and I just… while yes, we all have a unique upbringing, unique nurturing, unique nature, we are designed to experience crisis as a dedicated pivot-point in life. We can gain so much from it. I feel like it’s a hard-wired thing. I feel like we are meant to experience it.’ Shan Clayton
We all know that the desire to learn and work on oneself can come from a place of pain and crisis. What we may not know is how or when that will strike. Shan Clayton hit rock bottom at the age of 33. She knew no one would come and save her and quickly recognised she was the one who had to make a change and take control and responsibility for herself.
To the outside word she was fully polished and rockin it. She realises now it took her twenty years to get to the bottom of the pit and 10 years to crawl back out of it. She believes it is all a process. Looking back she felt like she was wearing a blind fold. She knew she needed to stop fighting herself and lean into it. It was the stopping that gave her the space to decide what to do. The perfectionist within had to give int to this.
As humans we go for the quick fix but that does not always serve us long term. Shan believes most people are terrified of the monster that lurks in the shadows. But if we just realised we can shine a light within and realise it is not that bad at all.
We talk about the ‘parts party’ analogy where we get to discover and observe all the different parts which comes from the internal family systems. Shan loves people to just explore all parts of you and appreciate they all play a role and find the humour in it all.
There are many tips and wonderful ideas in this interview that will support you to discover more of the real you.
Shan Clayton is a highly skilled therapist and mindset coach who specialises in supporting clients who are motivated to overcome the emotional root causes of persistent stress, anxiety, and depression, and learn to express themselves fully, develop self-acceptance and self-love, and start living with enthusiasm and drive once again.
She holds qualifications in Counselling, Mindfulness Therapies, NLP Coaching, Tine Line Therapy and Advanced Hypnosis and has a wealth of life experience to draw from, including working in higher education, project management and hospitality.
She is the driving force behind THINK Coaching & Hypnotherapy, an online hub for behavioural transformation, which she operates alongside her lifelong friend and colleague, Leanne Davis.
Together, they offer quality transformation programs for individuals and couples as well as their fortnightly THINK Night In, an evening group learning and coaching space offered free of charge to anyone wishing to put their toe in the water.
Shan is a passionate mental health and wellbeing advocate who believes personal growth and transformation are possible even in the face of low self-worth, uncertainty, procrastination, and self-sabotaging habits.
She has overcome many challenges, including chronic depression, generalised anxiety disorder and alcohol and drug misuse. She knows well the journey involved in conquering fears and converting inner demons to inner strengths.
The key to living well, Shan says, is to give ourselves permission to express all that we are, even the less dazzling parts of ourselves, for no-one else’s sake but our own, because it’s through the fullest expression of who we are that we resolve any need to suppress, which is what leads to emotional and mental upset in the first place.
Her definition of Self Love is to accept ALL of me, and I mean ALL of me. It is about loving and nurturing and allowing space for the expression for ALL the parts of who I am. To love oneself is to let yourself have that space.
Her favourite quote is from Cirque du Soleil:
‘We rise by lifting each other.’

Quotes:
I feel like crisis is built into our DNA
The moment we attempt to change anyone else is the moment we have gone too far
Teach don’t preach
It is important to sit with your whole self
Give each part of you the time they deserve
Navigating the darkness of the waters with the sunshine on top
Accept that we are born with a buffet
We supress or express constantly
Be radical in life
It is all a process of learning
Accept there is always a process of grieving
Fill the gaps in our life with more of what we do want
There is no destination it is all a process
There is no clear-cut pathway
What do I need most right now?
Self-management is everything
I love to go to nothing-town
Ask yourself as you always have the answers within
It is a process of go by feel
The greatest tool is time-line therapy
Do we dare to take a leap and reach out?
Be real

SLP 204: Self Love Quicky – Giving our Children Roots and Wings
Thursday Aug 11, 2022
Thursday Aug 11, 2022
This week my husband and I packed up and farewelled our son to follow his dream to play professional rugby in NZ. It was a mixture of excitement and sadness, and I will add this was not in the handbook of parenting! So today I share a couple of my favourite quotes and why it is so important to give our children roots and wings.
Henry Ward Beecher once wrote, “There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots…the other, wings.”
I also love the Kahlil Gibran quote which really gets to the soul…
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
From The Prophet (Knopf, 1923). This poem is in the public domain.

SLP 203: Tenacity, Resilience and Community are Key with Keeta Gibson
Tuesday Aug 09, 2022
Tuesday Aug 09, 2022
“I think those two words are absolutely perfect, and the other word I would add in there that I embrace is community. When you’re in that environment, you know your community is called upon, there is a real… you know as much as where we were… our closest neighbour was 5km away. It doesn’t seem far, but it is quite far. And then the next neighbour was maybe 5 or 10 kms from that. But you knew you could always call your neighbour and they would be over to help with any of the jobs that were on the farm. The women would come over if we were shearing and there would be 12 shearers in the shearing shed. All the women would get together and make the lunch and make the sweets and make the treats. And all the children from the neighbouring surrounds would come and help in the shearing as well. So, it was a real community that I was brought up with. You know the ability to freely and openly talk to people and ask questions of people because you felt a connection. So absolutely, tenacity and resilience were absolutely there, but I think community for me is one that stands out as well.”
Keeta Gibson started life on the land. She grew up in regional New South Wales with sheep, horses, dogs and chooks. Two values that was installed throughout her childhood was community and a hard work ethic, something she embodies still to this day. She’s also been a project manager, a mortgage broker, a financial planner and loves world economics. You are going to love her insights, knowledge and open-hearted way in which she views money, property and business.
She began renovating property for fun in 2003 when she returned home to Australia after being an expat for several years. Keeta is also an experienced investor, successful entrepreneur and retired triathlete.
Keeta has been in business for more than 15 years. She has started businesses and purchased businesses; she has invested in them, grown them and turned them around. She has witnessed and experienced both successes and failures, and she has learned the most from her failures.
Keeta was twelve years old when she had her first experience with starting a business and enlisting joint venture partners. Raised in regional Australia on a large farm her entrepreneurial skills were developed.
Through her business, Ocean Buyers Agency, she fulfills her absolute passion of purchasing property and helping people achieve strong outcomes.
Keeta is a dynamic, enthusiastic, vivacious and inspirational personality, and her personal motivation is based on H.O.P.E – ‘Helping Other People Everyday’.
She has completed a Bachelor of Applied Science – Computing, Diploma of Financial Planning, Advanced Diploma in Interior Design, has secured her Real Estate Agent License all of which inform Keeta’s professional and qualified approach.
You will also hear Keeta’s thoughts on investing and the key values of a Buyers Agent and what is happening on the Sunshine Coast with property
Her definition of Self Love is about being in alignment with self-care. It is about looking after yourself knowing when it’s time to stop. Take care of you, take the time to have time.
Her favourite quote is; If it’s to be it’s up to me.

I believe people are more fearful today
A farming life creates an element of entrepreneurism
It’s good to reflect on things and then appreciate them
I have a love of understanding and a thirst for knowledge
There are opportunities for everyone
Only risk investing what you are prepared to lose
Have 5 jars to distribute your income
I offer guidance for the buyer
There are always solutions and better solutions
Community is everything

SLP 202: Self Love Quicky – German Chamomile
Thursday Aug 04, 2022
Thursday Aug 04, 2022
German chamomile is extracted from the dried flower heads. It is an incredible deep blue colour, which is formed from matricin during the steam distiliation process which is caused by a component called chamazulene.
German chamomile has a more distinct medicinal, herbal aroma compared to the sweeter, more floral aroma of Roman chamomile. Whilst both are very soothing and calming oils German chamomile is known for its powerful analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and anti-allergenic qualities.
Potent, yet gentle German chamomile is a highly effective medicinal oil excellent to use safely with lavender and orange on small children. One drop of each in 10mls of a carrier oil like sweet almond, macadamia or jojoba oil would make a calming massage blend, perfect after a bath and to prepare for sleep. You could use these same oils in a diffuser to help create a calm, cleansed and refreshed environment.
For tummy upsets make a massage blend using 2 drops German chamomile, 1 drop lavender and 1 drop peppermint and massage gently into the stomach region in a clockwise direction.
This beautiful oil is beneficial in treating swollen joints, sprains and muscle tears making it an ideal addition to a cup of magnesium salts when bathing.
German chamomile is excellent for people with sensitive, inflamed or irritated skin. Add 2 drops to 2 drops each of lavender and frankincense in a warm compress and place over the effected area. Known for its qualities as a vaso-constrictor it can help reduce the redness of cheeks caused by enlarged blood vessels.
For the treatment of slow healing wounds and skin conditions like ingrown toenails and abscesses you can use German chamomile, patchouli and tea tree as an effective wash.
For a wonderful hair mask and scalp treatment mix 2 drops each of German chamomile, rosemary and geranium into 20mls of jojoba or coconut oil. Massage into the scalp and to the hair ends, comb through. For best results leave on overnight. Remember to apply shampoo onto the oiled head before adding water. Shampoo twice and condition as normal.
A refreshing blend to help heal skin conditions is 2 drops German chamomile, 2 drops lavender, 1 drop rose and 1 drop sandalwood into a 50ml spritzer bottle filled with water. Shake and spritz over the effected area to soothe, calm and heal.
To relieve the symptoms of a headache or migraine mix 2 drops of German chamomile with 2 drops of peppermint into a small bowl of cool water. Use a face washer or muslin cloth dipped into the bowl then squeeze excess water and compress across forehead. Repeat as necessary.
One of the best oils to help calm negative thoughts, agitation, nervous tension and insomnia German chamomile is a must-have in any home aroma first aid kit.

SLP 201: The Definition Of Success with Linda Ireland
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
Wednesday Aug 03, 2022
‘It made me really good at what I did because part of my natural state of being is I’m very caring and I have a lot of empathy. And so, it made me really good at finance. And then the extra layer of what my definition of success is meant that I really showed up. And I showed up until 11’o’clock at night, 12’o’clock at night, 1am in the morning, 2am in the morning, that wasn’t uncommon for me to work crazy hours like that, and what that meant was of course was my health got eroded over time. And there was a couple of big events that happened like the GFC, that was a really challenging time, and some other big events and with each big event it just kind of jolted me into I guess this state of adrenal fatigue and the beginnings of burnout. And then one day I just couldn’t get out of bed.’ Linda Ireland
Linda Ireland found herself in a conundrum wondering who she was and what she really wanted. She championed the business world until it took its toll and with a financial degree and a number of highly successful businesses behind her the need to stop and heal took priority. She has built and sold many businesses over the years, and since retiring early, she continues to work part-time in her natural haircare company, BodFood.
In this interview we discover what has been Linda’s drivers and how she has created wealth and success. She actually starts all of her workshops now asking participants for their definition of wealth and then their definition of success. She believes these two questions are a brilliant place to start when it comes to honouring our wants and needs.
Linda believes health should be our number one priority. The day doesn’t start unless she has done her own self-care rituals like a walk on the beach, meditation and being present. She is really conscious of being her best self and after confronting her health challenges she has now realised how serious she needed to take on the advice of experts. And that included selling her business to begin her journey of healing.
It wasn’t just physical healing either there were many layers to her overall healing journey. Over four years she discovered it was way deeper than she could have ever imagined. She gradually healed the Hashimoto’s and chronic fatigue and is very aware of the power in listening to the body’s signs.
She has also come to realise how many people are experiencing the same health issues as she did. At the simplest level it is about ignoring the signs and a body in chronic stress is not good. There seems to be this expectation to work really hard and to always show up. This can also lead to overwhelm, depression and anxiety.
Linda talks about the turning points that directed her on a healing path and needing help. She also talks about the power of being a mum and leading by example. She remembers having to choose between being a serious business-woman or a yoga teacher and at the time she felt she had to abandon the yoga world. Then when her health became so compromised in the business world she realised she needed to sell this business and get back to her yoga world.
She believes there is no point worrying about things until or unless they happen. There is no need to bring it into this present moment and ruin what is happening right now.
We discuss why worrying or being busy is seen as a badge of honour. Linda tries to steer away from this now and practices being very present as often as she can. She suggests asking these two questions when challenged. 1. Is it yours? And 2. Is it serving you?
Linda shares the Conscious Initiatives programs that she offers which is about living from a conscious space in all aspects. Get out of the past or the future and ask yourself what is relevant right now? Goals are important to work out where you are going but being consciously present is even more powerful in her humble opinion.
And when you’re truly present you are connected into that higher self, be it God, soul, Universe… whatever word you would like to use. And then it is like getting into that Jetstream, into flow.
Linda has a set of choices she makes every day that are important in her life and these include.
Health
Living your true nature and purpose
And each day focus on one of these and ask what is the next obvious action you need to take to make it happen
The always connect into the part of you that wants you to be the best
It is important to Linda to continuously focus on two things… to create and contribute. And then once you learn it, it seems obvious that you would share it.
There are tips she shares around getting through the grind of life and business:
Using the tools of self-care
Being fully present
Showing up
Get present daily to that consciousness
Get next clear action to take
Seek help from coaches who have been successful in your industry
She talks about her new project BodFood.
Although impressive to read, Linda is quick to point out that her business success was far from smooth sailing. From starting so young, Linda learned the ropes of a very tough industry, made instinctively good decisions and impulsive bad ones. Long hours, burnout, chronic stress, pressure and unforeseen global events severely challenged her mental health, physical health, personal relationships, and love for life.
Linda approaches work projects in the same way that an artist might look at a canvas: life and all of its experiences are a creative process. She attributes this attitude as the key to why she achieved so much success in her career.
Linda has explored many different creative projects, from owning a yoga studio to one of the largest finance brokerages in Australia; selling one of their businesses to a listed company to running a marathon with no prior practice.
Today, Linda dedicates her working life not only to BodFood but also to sharing what she has learned in both business and quantum universes through Conscious Initiative‘s workshops. She pays forward the tools she gained through sharing stories, methods, philosophies and principles with anyone who wants to benefit from them.
Her definition of Self Love is showing up and doing your meditation and yoga. Taking that time to connect with that consciousness and take loving action to live in your true nature and purpose. And to always have deep, deep compassion for oneself.
Her favourite quote is from Pablo Picasso:
‘The chief enemy of creativity is good sense.’

SLP 199: Anam Cara Soul Connections with Fleur Davis
Tuesday Jul 26, 2022
Tuesday Jul 26, 2022
‘We started looking into him when we were looking, like what is beauty in one of our books. What is beauty to us? And his definition of beauty was just gorgeous, to him he said ‘Beauty is a sense of homecoming.’ And that is very much what sums up what real beauty is, understanding like a deeper sense of who you are, of knowing who you are becoming and that depth, his words… I really encourage everyone to look at some of his poetry and what he writes about. But one of the things he does write about is ‘Anam Cara’ which is that soul connection, that soul friend that you can have with many people, but often there’s a few special people in your life that you do just have a soul connection with and Anam Cara is definitely what we thought summed up our relationship.’ Fleur Davis
Training as a beauty therapist in 1988 started Fleur on a fascinating career in the health and beauty industry. She has always had a fascination with the body and how amazing it works. Her father was in St. Johns Ambulance for years and as a little girl she joined the brigades and love all the study on the human body and dealing with emergencies. She was interested in being a nurse but Beauty Therapy was more appealing as a teenager, and the fact that her older sister was in the industry made it an easy decision.
Having skin and gut issues in her late teens and early twenties lead Fleur to study a multitude of nutritional practices, from macro-biotics, vegetarianism to paleo and that interest in nutrition and health has never stopped. At just 20 years of age she purchased her first business in Newmarket Auckland. A few years later she became a trainer and consultant for the In Essence Aromatherapy brand when it hit NZ shores some 30 years ago, in 1995.
That was when she was introduced to me who Fleur describes as a young, passionate women wanting to make a difference to people’s health and wellbeing through Aromatherapy. We felt an instant connection and quickly realized we had met for a reason. What followed was 17 years of an amazing partnership which gave birth to 5 books, the incredible Twenty8 Skincare and Essential Oil range and hundreds of talks to audiences and amazing women everywhere.
Along this journey Kim and Fleur also became mothers, they moved countries and we were constantly sharing what they were learning with their followers, which is what they loved.
It has been a privilege and an honour to work alongside each other as dear friends.
But then, life threw a curve ball as it often does, and after separating from her husband Fleur found herself drawn back to NZ, to family. It was a time of regrouping, as she went back into teaching at the Beauty and Spa College and to seeing clients which she loved.
Ten years on Fleur is now 6 years into her Real Estate Career, still researching and reading everything about nutrition and health (that will never change) but loving this new phase of life.
It is often said moving house is one of the more stressful events in someone’s life, and now Fleur feels privileged to be helping people and hopefully taking away a lot of that stress for them.
Working alongside her husband is another privilege and there is not a day goes by that she is not grateful for everything she has in her life.
Trust is a word she often repeats in her mind. Trust that everything happens for a reason (even in the middle of confusion and pain), trust everything will work out, and trust you will be guided. That simple word has helped her so much and still does.
In this beautiful interview we talk about our books, our business, our loves and lives, what we have been through and shared, the highs and lows. We share how our books and skincare range Twenty8 came about.
I am incredibly honoured to share the essence of my darling friend, my anam cara.
Her definition of Self Love is as John Donahue so eloquently says. It is a sense of homecoming, of understanding and accepting who you are and who you want to be. It is about loving and accepting yourself right here are right now and loving the person you are becoming. Love is everything.
Her final message is having a sense of just acknowledging and accepting that where you right now is exactly where you are meant to be. Trust it. No matter what you are going through just trust that everything is how it is meant to be, that everything will work out even though at the time you can’t see how that’s going to be.
Her favourite quote is from the book ‘The Things That You Can See When You Slow Down’ by Haemin Sunim – ‘Don’t try to make it perfect, instead make it interesting.’

Quotes:
I was drawn to the healing side of health
Writing didn’t come easy
We were living and breathing these tools
Getting the work life balance right
It was easy to practice what we preach
Women championing women
Incredible connections are everywhere
Trust is a gut feeling
Go with your gut feeling
When you love people, you inherently want them to be happy
Love and respect for each other’s differences is so important
It can be allowing that person to blossom and be who they are
We have a story in our life how we think life will go and then life has other plans
Anam cara summed up our relationship
It is something very special and something we both share
Everyone is different in what works well for them.
I love the healing power of plants
Skin needs to be cleansed thoroughly and gently, nourished and protected
Whilst it was disappointing it conveyed what we were passionate about doing
Don’t try to make it perfect, instead make it interesting

SLP 198: Self Love Quicky – Follow Your Nose To Twenty8
Thursday Jul 21, 2022
Thursday Jul 21, 2022
For centuries people across the world have enjoyed the aromatic pleasures and health benefits of the wonderful oils that come from natures many plants and herbs, flowers and trees. Aromatherapy is a gentle art that can have profound effects on the mind and body. It is also a science. Essential oils are complex packages of molecules that have many life-enhancing qualities.
Put simply aromatherapy is a therapy using aromas. It works in two ways through our sense of smell and through our skin.
Smells register via the nose as we breathe, these components travelling up the nasal passage and triggering nerve impulses which fire directly into the brain. Thousands of these reactions occur on a daily basis. Because our sense of smell is so closely linked to our emotions it can trigger different moods and emotional states. This in turn can trigger internal chemical changes, relaxing or stimulating the body.
The skin is the other avenue aromatherapy works. With many complex layers, the deeper ones richly supplied with blood vessels, nerves, sweat glands and oil glands, when essential oils come into contact with the skin the tiny molecules pass through the top layer of the skin and enter the bloodstream. From there they can be used by the body where needed, passing out via the kidneys. Massaging a sore aching back with Rosemary for example will give a feeling of warmth to the muscles improving local blood supply and easing soreness and stiffness.
Essential oils fall into different categories according to what they do. Calming oils such as Lavender, Chamomile and Orange help to ease physical pain, soothing aching muscles or headaches and have a sedative, relaxing effect on the mind and body.
Pungent oils such as Black Pepper, Cardamon and Vetiver have an energising effect on the mind and body, increasing circulation and producing a sense of vitality. Fresh herbal oils such as Peppermint, Lemongrass and Rosemary are stimulating and help cleanse and detox the body, and improve concentration. Citrus oils such as Lemon, Grapefruit and Bergamot tonify all body systems and help lift depression.
The regular use of essential oils can greatly enhance well-being, help relieve the pressures of stress and every day modern living. It has been documented that daily use of essential oils can even increase self-esteem and confidence and it is well known that they can change the way you think and feel in seconds.
Diffusing is a fantastic way to change the environment, set the mood and effect the way you think and feel. It is a great way to help keep your mind alert and improve concentration. Aromatherapy baths, inhalations and massage can all help improve your immune function and increase your resistance to viruses and infections like colds and flu’s.
When it comes to purchasing essential oils it is important to choose oils from a trusted source. A company that is committed to providing the highest quality oils, preferably organic. Essential oils will vary in price due to the way they are extracted, the yield of that oil and where they are from. For instance a 10ml bottle of pure Rose oil will cost around $1,000 as it will take approximately a tonne of rose petals to produce that amount, whereas a 10ml bottle of pure organic Lavender will cost around $30 due to a much higher yield and better availability. Many companies will adulterate oils by adding synthetic counterparts or diluting them to keep the price down, sometimes to even trick the consumer and make more money. The key is to be aware and do your homework.
There are also contra-indications to be aware of, when essential oils should not be used. Some oils are contraindicated during pregnancy like Basil, Clary Sage, Jasmine, Juniper, Marjoram and Peppermint, some are sun sensitive (photo toxic) like Bergamot, Lemon and expressed Lime and some should be avoided with conditions such as epilepsy like Basil, Peppermint and Rosemary. Check an excellent resource for a full list of contraindications. Robert Tisserand’s Essential Oil Safety is a must-have.
Because essential oils are highly concentrated – often 70-100 times more concentrated than the aroma in the original plant – some oils can take a bit to get used to their intensity. That’s why we recommend you waft the bottle about 10cms from the nose when inhaling for the first time. It is also the reason why less is best. You only need a few drops at a time for any chosen method of use as follows:
Essential oil quick-reference blending guide for Adults
Massage: 100ml massage carrier oil : 50 drops (2:1 ratio = 2.5% dilution)
Body Boost: 6ml massage carrier oil : 3 drops
Vaporising: 6–8 drops
Bathing: 3–6 drops
Compress: 3–4 drops
Inhalation: 3–4 drops
Footbath: 3–6 drops
Spritzer: 3–6 drops
Direct application: Place 1 drop on a damp cotton bud
To Celebrate and Uplift your spirits these are the perfect oils, Clary Sage, Sweet Orange, Rosewood, YlangYlang and Grapefruit. This is your ‘happy’ blend. The one to promote joy and celebration into your life. A fantastic ‘pat on the back’ blend too!

For more Balance and Harmony and to bring stability and strength. A beautiful combination of oils such as Clary Sage, Geranium, Lavender, Lemon, Neroli and Rose will all help balance emotions and regulate body cycles which can sometimes go out of balance when stressed or over worked.

your emotions and relax before bed. Also a great combination of oils to soothe muscle aches and pains.
To help improve communication and enhance Romance and Intimacy try a sensual combination of Ylang Ylang, Patchouli, Rosewood, Sandalwood and Sweet Orange which enhances loving relationships, romance and positive communication. It is also the
perfect blend to use when you need to show some TLC for yourself.
To Detox and Strengthen the mind and body try these oils, Juniper, Rosemary, Spanish Cypress, Lemongrass, Grapefruit Pink, Black Pepper and Rose are all activating oils to help boost the body’s ability to cleanse and detox and ideal to support weight-loss. It is the kick-butt body and mind blend to give you strength and endurance through any challenge. A powerful blend to call on when you need that added stamina and fortitude, motivation and will power.
Try This
Place 6-8 drops of the energy and vitality oils into a Diffuser and use these oils as your ‘anchor’ whilst you are studying. On the day of an exam place a drop of these oils on a tissue and take into the exam with you. Take 3 deep breaths of your aromatic tissue before you even open the paper relaxing your diaphragm and centring yourself. A neuro-chemical loop will be reactivated giving you a sense of confidence and calm just as you were when all your books were in front of you.
Try This
Relaxation is not just the physical letting go of tight muscles; it is also the releasing of tension in your thoughts. Fill a sink with warm water and add 3-4 drops of the de-stress and revive oils or the instant calm oils. Immerse a face cloth into the sink and squeeze out excess water. Compress onto the face taking nice deep breaths. Repeat 3 times. This will help ease the mind, relieve a headache or relax a tired brain!
Top 6 oils for every home
Geranium is the oil to call on when calm and balance is needed. Excellent for emotional extremes, when late nights are prevalent or anxiety levels are rising. The perfect oil to bring stability and comfort and when life feels like it is getting out of control.
Lavender is your first aid kit and dream mum in a bottle! A must-have oil in every home to help nurture, heal, calm, soothe and restore. It is the safest to use directly on small burns, bites and stings and is the perfect sleep aid with one drop on your pillow.
Orange is an incredibly versatile oil. Whilst it is uplifting and radiating it is also relaxing and calming. Use with stimulating oils to help enliven the atmosphere and increase energy or with sedating oils to help promote relaxation and a good nights sleep!
Peppermint is a refreshing and stimulating, warming and cooling oil, this versatile oil is nature’s remedy for upset tummies, nausea and to support good digestion. Fantastic combined with Lavender for an energising foot bath. It is also the secret ingredient in the healthy Chocolate Almond Peppermint cake.
Rosemary is your activating oil. Use it to get you up in the morning, to focus and to stimulate brain activity. A great oil to help relieve muscle aches and pains and also known as the oil for remembrance, making it a fantastic study oil.
Sandalwood is your endurance oil especially for those long busy days. Use specifically when you want to feel grounded and centred but not sedated – like during a speech, formal presentation, exams or an interview. It is an excellent oil to help centre and ground the mind.
Aromatherapy has so many benefits. Some are more obvious like recovering from the flu or relieving muscle aches and pains. Others are more subtle and instinctive responses such as feeling stress and tension dissolve or getting a better night sleep. Psycho-aromatherapy enables us to take control of our thoughts and emotions, it helps us to acknowledge how we are feeling and gives us the natural tools to make positive changes.

Quotes:
The experiences I have had a genuinely amazing in regards to leadership
I enjoyed the experience but not necessarily what I was doing
This was a massive turning point in my life
Need to get out of this relationship and find something else to do
You can’t send people into war if you are not willing to go yourself
Don’t screw it up
Wanted my team to be successful and our clients to be happy
Gave me a whole new perspective on life
My emotional side did not kick in for quite a few years
I got paid for 40 hours a week but worked 120
I was disconnected to it all
What might I want to do if I was not immersed in work?
Definitely a turning point in my emotional awareness
I knew it was going to be positive
What have I always wanted to do?
To help to heal
Bring that feeling into my heart and spirit

SLP 196: Self Love Quicky – 20 Questions To Ask Yourself
Thursday Jul 14, 2022
Thursday Jul 14, 2022
If you are some one who is up for making the most of their time on this planet then it is important to take time in your life and assess where you are at, where you have been and where you are going. We all know, in the scheme of things that life is relatively short, and sadly so many do not get to live life out loud or fulfil their hopes and dreams. So here are some questions to take some time, go within and ask yourself.
Now before we get into asking these questions here is something interesting. According to Bronnie Ware author of ‘The Top 5 Regrets Of The Dying’ are:
1. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.
2. I wish I hadn’t worked so hard
3. I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends
5. I wish I’d let myself be happier
As you look at those top five regrets perhaps it gives you time now to reflect and ask if any of these are regrets in your life right now and if so, maybe it’s time to do something about it?
Here are 20 deep questions you can take some time to sit down and ask yourself about your life which in doing so may well make life more full, rich and enjoyable.
1. Are you doing what you truly want to do?
2. What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
3. When was the last time you did something for the first time?
4. Is there anything you cannot let go of, but you know you should?
5. How many promises have you made and how many of them have you fulfilled?
6. When do you truly feel alive?
7. What or who lights you up?
8. Complete this sentence; ‘I wish I had someone with whom I could share…’
9. Do I truly know myself?
10. What is the difference between you and most other people?
11. If you would die now, would you have any regrets?
12. Do you remember anyone you disliked or fell out with 10 years ago? Does it matter now?
13. For what in your life do you feel most grateful?
14. What do you spend too much time doing? What don’t you spend enough time doing?
15. How do you treat people who can do nothing for you?
16. If you were to die this evening, without opportunity to talk to anyone what would you most regret not having told anyone? Why haven’t you told them yet?
17. What is something you love in your life right now that you could not have imagined liking in the past?
18. Are you afraid of making mistakes, even though there is no punishment at all?
19. If today was the end of the world, what would you do?
20. Your house, containing everything you own, catches fire. After saving your loved ones and pets, you have time to safely make a final dash to save any one item. What would it be and why?
Self-enquiry and self-reflection are powerful tools to embody your values and live life on your terms. There is no accident you are reading this right now.

SLP 195: A Tribute To Lauren Gaylard
Tuesday Jul 12, 2022
Tuesday Jul 12, 2022
I had the privilege of knowing this amazing soul for the past seven years. Lauren Gaylard is one remarkable woman. Sadly she gained her wings last month and this week I wanted to share the interview I did with her last year. I also had the privilege of marrying her to the love of her life in February and now sadly her celebration of life tributes. She is one incredible being. I hope you enjoy hearing her messages of love and wisdom and embrace the power of yoga, her life and her legacy.

SLP 194: Self Love Quicky – ROSE Oil

The Rose is well renowned for its beauty, grace and exquisite aroma. It was one of the first flowers from which an essential oil was ever distilled way back in the tenth century. It is known as the Queen of essential oils and in this week’s podcast you will see why.
It is a flower that has been highly revered and used throughout history. Perhaps Cleopatra is one of the best examples. The story goes… to lure Mark Antony she had her ship rubbed down in rose wax, the sails dipped in rosewater and hundreds of exquisite rose petals strewn across the bedroom! There is no mistaking its romantic and aphrodisiac virtues.
Known as the ‘Queen of Flowers’, when distilled it is also thought of as the Queen amongst essential oils. Over time it has been used to treat many disorders of the female reproductive system and whilst many essential oils have an affinity for a particular part of the body and it is not surprising that Rose has a particular preference and affinity with the uterus. It is cleansing, purifying and regulating. It is also alluring, enchanting, indulging and nurturing.
In a spritzer rose is a gentle but potent antidepressant. It is excellent to use in times of grief, stress and for emotional wounds. In a massage blend it is an excellent antispasmodic oil and in skincare it is especially valuable for dry, sensitive or ageing skin. It has a tonic and astringent effect on capillaries and on the circulation in general.
Rose oil can be used to calm the nerves, release anger and frustration. The stunning smell of Rose has a way of easing fear, providing comfort for the heart and soul, and can open a doorway into new friendships and relationships.
Mojay (1999) states the rose is the symbol of love. He suggests that it has the capacity to heal emotional wounds, and help nurture and comfort oneself.
To fill a 10ml bottle of rose oil a tonne of rose petals is required. To put that in perspective, it takes between 30 to 60 roses to produce just one single drop of Rose oil.
Rose carries an expensive price tag due to this high quantity and the very high costs involved in its extraction, but then only very little is needed to treat a mental, emotional or physical condition. It is the ultimate self-love oil.
Considered a popular base note, the perfume industry uses more than the world’s annual production of Rose oil, so where does the rest come from? It difficult to detect adulterated Rose Oil, even with gas spectrometry so perhaps the best guide is a trustworthy supplier and your own nose. Just one drop rubbed onto the perfume points is enough to send any nose into a romantic frenzy!
In the Aroma Cards the quote for Rose oil is:
‘Loving myself is easy because I am beautiful, I attract love, joy and happiness into all of my being.’
